What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.
Brag: Shot 80 today on my home course (par 72) - I'm a 12 handicap so this is a very good number for me.
Beat: Had a [censored] quadruple bogey on the easiest hole on the course. Stupid sand features.
Variance: Lost $3 thanks to the team game.
43-43-86. 1 birdie, 3 double bogeys. 73.0/142/6701 yards.
Not going to lie, 5700 yards is more fun than 6700. Especially on a poor ball striking day.
Some day I'm going to figure out why I can get so much extra distance out of bunkers. Had a long shot out of one today, about 65 yards. I didn't have the club I wanted in my hand -- I'd usually hit about a 9 iron and take some sand -- but figured, okay, I've got my 52 degree wedge, which I ordinarily hit about 70 yards. Maybe 75 if I hit it perfect. No problem. I put a good swing on it, picked it pretty clean ... and flew the damned ball over 100 yards, well over the green where it landed hot on a concrete cart path and shot off into the jungle. You could give me a large bucket out in the fairway and I couldn't carry one 100. I did well to salvage a double.
Still haven't broken 100 or 50. 52/ nine holes, one par two bogeys and a dreaded 10 on a par five . I did find a completely blank ball.
Nice round scooter.
42 (par 35). No birdies, 1 double bogey.
Hit the ball fine for Tuesday night golf, chipping and pitching was pretty good. Most strokes were given away on the greens.
Hole in One with unique warm up
Hole 14, par 4, played 2nd shot from about 120, hit pin, bounced about 8 feet away, made birdie putt
Hole 15, par 3, about 120 yards, hit same club again for my 3rd career hole in one
Quite accurate for two holes in a row. Never before, never again.
Grats! I want an ace.
55-42 today for a tale of two rounds. Couldn't find the face of the driver on the front 9, cold topped about 15 shots. Fixed something on 10 tee and no looking back.
Welcome to the club!
Level in the 9 hole roll up.
I was playing with 2 decent guys and walked up the 1st tee and they said we've made a bet who ever finishes last buys the drinks 1 guy gets a shot.
1st hole both of them stick it close and birdie it. 2nd Hole guy who gets a shot goes -2. I make birdie as well. I was like what have a let myself in for. Thankfully I won/tie with the guy who gets a shot. The other guy finished +1.
Wondering if you guys could help me actually as I can't get a straight non bias answer.
So we run this 9 hole roll up its stableford scoring. Based over 20 weeks. 7 of your best scores count towards your final total.
I'm having trouble on how to decide the winner or people who place who tie with each other.
I see a few ways.
1. Count up all the scores you play then divide by the number of weeks you've played to get an average. I find this good because it will reward the consistent player.
2. If a tie happens instead of 7 best you go to 8 best then continue to 9th 10th etc etc until you get a winner.
3. Who ever has the highest lowest score wins.
So if player A is tied with player B
Player A lowest score out of his 7 is 18
Player B lowest score out of his 7 is 16
Then Player A would win.
I just do the scoring and the guy who runs it is near the top so asking him he might become a bit bias with it.
^ we went with option 2 in the end.
+6 today not great but for how I was striking the ball its decent.
Funny not so funny moment. After coming off a meh front 9 I hit a great drive down 10 gave myself a little pep talk whilst walking down the fairway then ended up chunking the wedge shot not often do I do this but I ended up throwing my wedge 😃
I used to have a club-throwing problem years and years ago. Wasn't super frequent, but definitely was in the arsenal. Hadn't thrown one in who knows how long, but had to give the putter a little ride in my last tourney.
Was a match play tourney and I was 3dn through 3 and trying to battle back. I had a 6 footer to win the hole and just burn the high side edge and have a 2 footer back. I go to knock it in rather than mark and another guy says "take your time" which is the literal kiss of death somehow, I power lip it again, and tap in to lose the hole, to now again be 3dn with 8 to go. I've missed two 2 footers in all the tourneys I've played this year and both of them had a guy say "take your time".
Couldn't take it and so held the putter straight out in front of me as I was walking off the green and just forcefully shoved the grip down and forward, resulting in a vertical helicoptering toss of about 6 feet. Reset "club thrown" clock to 0 haha.
44-38-82 (par 35-35-70). 1 birdie, 1 double bogey, 1 triple. 69.4/123/6,088 yards.
The Mines GC in Grand Rapids. Featured on
. Rough start - bogey, double, triple, but some of the kinks were worked out after that.Semi-annual shootout for our Saturday quota game. Top 10 make the shootout, eliminate 2 per hole.
About 4 people get a shot (not me) on the first. I end up putting it in the water, with one other in bad shape but he got a shot. I go 5 iron pure to 70 yards out (par 5). Hit 60* to 6 feet and make it. I'm in a 6 for 5 chip off to advance. We all look away while others hit. I hit a decent one, turns out someone shanked their chip and is out. Move to hole two fairway, green, 2-putt par. Hole 3 long par 5 around water. I make bogey for a net par. Two other make a net 7 and net 8 and are out. Down to 4 the next hole is a 380ish par 4. I hit horrible push into left rough. It's plugged so I get to drop. Proceed to get a jumper that was also pulled a bit. 8 iron from 173 goes 185 into the water and I am toast and out in 4th for $190.
I just got to play in my first horserace yesterday (sounds virtually identical in nature to your shootout), was lots of fun. Partner event so alt shot. We made a very nice par 5 to start then got eliminated on the second hole after partner holed a 12 foot bogey save, but my chip-off effort was to about 8 feet and wasn't good enough.

Stuff like that is one of the things I miss about belonging to a club. Still remember the first time I made the member-guest horse race - pretty big field so it wasn't easy to make to the top 10 either as a member or guest to get to play - I snuck in as about the #8 guest (this was before I was a member), so I was paired with a top 3 member who was a stick. Guests hit first on the first hole, my only goal was to not jack one into the trees.
Pretty much never won a chip off, ever.
48-42-90 today. No birdies, 5 double bogeys. 70.3/133/6100.
Really poor ball striking day, especially on the front. Kept hitting it into super thick rough just off the fairway, lost about five shots just trying and mostly failing to hack it out of there. Chipping and pitching was average. Putting was good, if I'd had a bad day there it could have been triple digits.
Won my scratch match tonight in the semi's pretty silly knockout tbh was playing 18 handicapper. and beat him 7&6. Into the final vs a better player than me so will be tough to win he is bang in form and I'm not but hey some days I can wake up and actually play golf 😃
Apparently in the past it would have tons of people watching it. Assuming gambling ensued. This time we had around 10 watching, all people who didn't make the shootout. We really need the cart girl to just follow it around.
country clubs were once a place to drink and smoke and bet and joke with familiar privacy not commonly espoused during current times
property now swimming with summer tennis kids and all the other lessons taken from head professionals
shootout excitement likely a figment of last century
41 (par 36). No birdies, no double bogeys.
Pretty decent for Tuesday night golf. My new wedge arrived at lunch so I threw that in the bag, ended up using it five times without having attempted a single practice shot beforehand. Two shots were really good, two were good but a little too hard, and I half-hoseled a bunker shot ... which was immediately redeemed by the putter as I sank a 65 footer to save par.
Third round with the new putter, also really liking that. I'm not quite putting lights out, but there is notable improvement and it's very comfortable. Sank a 15 footer on the last hole and made several shorter putts. So far it's a keeper.
44-40 yesterday at men's night, no birdies. Actually 84 is solid for how many shots (1x driver, 2x 3W, 1x 6i, and a very skinny heely 4i) I topped.
Had an on-course 9 hole session with my coach last week, and while it didn't really blow me away from an information session standpoint, it did help me with some greenside technique. I need to get more comfortable with pulling my PW instead of 56* for some bump and runs and easier plays off tighter lies.
