2024 MLB Season Thread

Nobody wants these games to start more than Mannfred.

Shohei just spoke to the media for the first time. In a prepared statement, he said:

-He never bet on baseball, or any other sport,
-He didn't know that Ippei lied to him, and that Ippei took the money from Shohei's account to pay his gambling debts
-He'll continue to cooperate with the investigation, and play as the investigation plays out.

If all that's true, then this is probably the best possible outcome for his reputation going forward. He's a naive star athlete who trusted the wrong person. It happens.

In any event, these games are about start! Last year, just like we all predicted, "Someone Else" came on strong in the playoffs, as the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks for the World Series. Can that happen again?

T-Mobile is giving away a free MLB.tv subscription ($149 value) to T-Mobile subscribers starting TOMORROW (Tuesday 3/26 - April 1). Don't miss out.

So speaking of gambling, here are the current best odds for the World Series you can find, from Vegas insider!

Many of his at bats go like this:

Slider away. 1-0.

Slider away. 2-0.

Change-up low. 3-0.

Slider slightly outside, but umpire gives him the call. 3-1.

Will Judge get a fastball?

Slider away. Ball 4.

But Judge should just get the 4 finger treatment. Because a pitcher can screw up and serve him a meatball on a platter. Which definitely has happened a number of times this season.

I've heard rumors that the Mets will throw the kitchen sink at Soto to pry him away from the Yankees.

Steve Cohen has billionaire "**** you" money and he will not be outbid. I fully expect the Mets to offer Soto the most money, and heck he wouldn't even need to move!

idk what a "strained calf" is but Senga's injury did not look minor. Stearns should try to score a starter for this rotation bc it seems extremely doubtful that we'll see him again

and yankeeland in complete meltdown despite being 15 games over .500, 2 games out of first in the division (bc the Orioles are also a mess atm) and 2 games up in the loss column for the WC. and they keep pitching to judge for some insane reason. champagne problems.

the panic is fun tho

Skubal and Baez for Lindor straight up. Would you accept?

No. Lindor is legit playing like the MVP right now, plus I imagine dealing him would **** with the OMG Energy surrounding the team chemistry.

I've been having calf issues the last few weeks. Calf muscles cramp up easily. And they heal quickly too. I'd expect he misses a couple of weeks.

no way trading the balance of Lindor's contract for Baez' even with Skubal

Why? Your owner has infinite money.

it's about performance. a quick look and we have -1.5 vs 4.4 WAR for starters. losing Lindor from the lineup isn't worth what is added by Sku every 5th day. esp with the Mets bullpen

I have no idea how they had such a good record through the middle of June. It was completely unsustainable for their pitching to be that good.
They have the second worst record in baseball behind the whitesox in the last month and half. 7 guys cant hit. Even Cole since coming off the IL has been bad.

You're never as good as you look at your head in baseball and you're never as bad as you look at your worst but there really not as good of a team as their overall record indicates.

When you're in free fall people panic.

Jazz Chisholm to NYY

Seems like panic?

Just what the Yankees need: another low contact, high K guy.

but he's left handed so it's a perfect fit. or something

Soto and Judge back to back!!!!!

Eat **** Red Sox!!!!

Lol I literally thought “just walk Judge here”.

This is an outdated take.

The Yankees don't strike out that much.

They are however, the double play champions of the world. They employ guys like Verdugo, Torres, and the corpse of DJ LeMahieu who specialize at grounding into double plays. The best to ever do it.

One of sickest non-catches I've ever seen. He hit his head very hard on the chair which caused him to drop the ball.

I think the 5 inning minimum for a starter to get a win should be reduced. Starters these days are often removed earlier even when they've pitched reasonably well. Perhaps the win in these cases (starter leaves with a lead that holds) should go to whichever pitcher pitched the most innings.

A win is a dumb stat anyway, but getting a win (as a starter) when you don't even pitch half a game would be pretty bad. It would not bother me a bit if they stopped assigning wins and just had quality starts vs non-quality starts.

Worst player in MLB Javy Baez has homered in 3 straight games (and is up to 4 on the season woo)!

Hope Breslow is watching his team’s crappy OF defense and bullpen.

Ohtani 40/40 watch. Dude is collecting the side quests while he can't pitch.

32/26 with only 4 CS through 106 games. Could even be first ever 50/40.

'Athlete of the Decade' so far?

I see they were throwing strikes to Judge and Ohtani again tonight. What the hell is going on out there?

40/40/40 too ... homers, doubles, steals. Only happened once in history.

What's the most stolen bases ever by a DH? I imagine it's not very high as usually guys with speed have value in the field somewhere.

Edit - steals at DH in a season record was 25, by Ohtani. He just broke his own record today. Previous record was 24 by Paul Molitor.
