APL Millions Gold Coast
I have always wanted to do a PB&G. I used to spend a bit of time in these forums, mainly lurking, enjoying PB&Gs from the likes of 6bet me, Skuzlad and Meale.
The APL (Australian Poker League) Millions are coming up this August so I thought it would be a good time to do one. I’m currently planning on playing 8 events and a satellite before the series. Only planning on playing NLH at this point.
Goals:
1) Win as much $ as I can
2) Reach a final table
3) Document and share interesting hands
4) Win APL Millions
About Me:
I’m a Gold Coast local for nearly a decade. I often play a tournament or two in the local series that pop up every couple of months but I’m yet to win a tournament. My best is coming 6th out of 1021 for around $5.5k Australian (all monies will be in dollarydoos). I learnt poker in 2009 but became more interested in the game around 2018, playing online, and then played live for the first time in 2019. I was playing more cash than tournaments.
Lately between work and study I haven’t found much time for live cash games. I play sometimes on GG but mainly play the bounty sit and goes on GG.
I’ve got August off for my studies, so the timing is great for Millions.

Yeah I feel ya. I'm working in the morning and playing in the arvo for the ones I am playing. Will be brutal having a deep run and getting up for work at 5.30am the next day but at least I'd have the deep run lol. I am a casual worker too so if a tourney really ran late I'd probably just call in sick ha.

I haven't had a look at WPT tbh. I went and played a cash game at the Star last weekend and heard people mention it was on. If I bink something at APL I'll be keen as. Or at least get a decent bankroll builder. I really dislike the Star as a venue but they do have nice trophies. Their tournaments are normally a bit out of my price range and they have bad satellites. Are you playing that series in Sep?
Today is the satellite to for the Main. 10 tickets guaranteed. $60 Entry, $60 re-entry (I'm guessing 1) and $50 add-on.
I'll probably post some simple updates such as when rego closes, how many people entered, how many tickets available, when we're close to the money etc.
I might post some interesting hands but planning to just take some notes and write them up later so I can stay as present as possible.

202 started, 184 left. 11 tickets and $750 for 12th. I have 37 bigs which would be below average.
Finished. No ticket. I'm happy with how I played. I had pretty bad card distribution. My best offsuit ace was A9, my best suited ace was A6, best pair 77, best suited connector 76. I had 2 pairs and 2 suited connectors the whole time. Super limited in spots.
This is probably the most interesting hand I was involved with.
Blinds 300/600. We have 6♠4♣ in BB.
3 limps to me, I check.
Flop: 2,700. 9♠7♠5♣
I lead 1,500. EP and BTN call.
Turn: 7,200. 5♦
I lead 3,000. Both call.
River: 16,200. A♣
I lead 10,000. Both call. EP has 88 and BTN has A6o. BTN wins.
After that I had 14 bigs in CO with A6s. 2 limps to me and I rip. Guy next to me who limped says sorry before it gets back to him. He has ATs and holds and that is bullet 1. I rebuy.
After addon blinds are going up quickly. I have 37 bigs that quickly is 16 bigs with the blinds doubling and me opening 76s in CO, SB calls. Flop AT3. SB OMC leads with big bet and I fold.
Last hand. We have A9o and 16 bigs in the SB. Folds to CO who looks to min raise but then limps. BTN fold. CO and BB have around 20 bigs. I jam. BB folds. CO tank calls AQo and holds. When he chose to limp rather than open I thought he would have a lot of folds in range and was surprised to see AQo. He wasn't a nit by any means and seemed like a pretty average aussie pub player (loose, upfront).
Result: -$170

i'm not gunna be back in aus til early sept and then have to move apartment so it's pretty unlikely. butttt i do still wanna go so we'll see!

Update Time:
So I picked up some bug and it wrecked me. I could barely keep my eyes open in the freezout I was so exhausted. Led to me needing the rest of the week off and I was in bed sleeping and sweating for days. Is a bizarre sick for me. 3 days of only being comfortable laying down with shut eyes. Then on the 4th I've got some snot and a bit of a cough. I do have a bit of energy today. Enough energy to update the blog but not enough to go in my main flight scheduled for today. I haven't played anything since the freezout and had I known how exhausted I was about to get I should've not bothered with that one.

Here for the mini high roller. I got here 1.5 hours early and still got reserve 194. I had enough time to play 3 satellites and still they are only up to reserve 130. Some people have reserves in the 300s. Looks to be around 400-450 entries so far. Good luck us!
