POG PUB 2024: A New Year, A New Thread, A New You
It was an honor to spend 2o23 with yall. And I look forward to spending 2o24 here too.
Happy New Year!
Yay, another day without access to healthcare!
Just gotta go to the hospital
The more expensive a medical treatment the more likely it does nothing or is a scam.
I can assure you the foot surgery I will hopefully get one day is both needed and very expensive heh
But I get what you are saying...generally the insanely expensive procedures are experimental
My wife gets drugs that are like 6k before insurance knocks it down to 20 dollars and she thinks it's a great deal while I think it's a scam. Someone is scamming someone at some point in the process.
Probably insurance is scamming people with higher premiums and drug manufactured are scamming people by overcharging.
But when the price goes from 6k to 20 dollars it feels good.
I have a friend/coworker whose son is a "bubble boy". He was finally able to get gene therapy a week ago because funding was made available for clinical trials in LA (UCLA maybe). Other option was $1M for treatment in Italy.
Sure, in taxes, while I'm working. Which I'm not right now. One of many reasons healthcare is my primary political issue. People shouldn't die because the company they worked for went under, or they got injured and had to leave a physical job.

It's literally all a scam. I've worked in the healthcare sector for about 10 years, and boy do I have stories lol

I take a fancy one called Taltz. It's literally a miracle drug, I fought psoriasis for over a decade with everything medical science had at the time and nothing worked but a couple shots of Taltz and it just disappeared. It targets only one specific protein, and there are virtually no side effects.
But yeah, it's $6k retail and insurance knocks it down to $25. Then I'm in a program which knocks that down to $5. Also I've been in two studies that paid money so I might be ahead on the deal. It's just a way for the drug companies to get all the money insurance will pay.
This. Prices would be much lower across the board if health insurance did not exist. Or if we had single-payer. They basically want any single use of your insurance to cover the 80/20 rule for their members, in aggregate
we should have issue unions. like workers have unions. but if instead of us working at one company and striking for better wages, we work at all kinds of companies and we strike for issues, like health care.
everyone in the union strike until we get healthcare. single payer healthcare is massively popular. if something like half the workers went on strike, i'd imagine it would get sorted pretty quickly.
same could be done for other issues that are massively popular, like ending dem/repub control over elections. open it up. have mandatory debates.
addressing the environmental crisis
taxing the wealthy
public education
stop bombing everyone to hell
stop bribing politicians and judges
no rental income properties
no assault weapons
no prison slave labor
Colonoscopy is done. 😀 I did it with no sedation. Was easy. I think a teeth cleaning is more painful. Basically just pressure and minor cramping. Two polyps (fingers crossed).
It was cool being able to just walk out.
Good to hear it went well
Cheese is pretty legit. How does one get sponsored by a food anyway?
Insurance in general is a Zero sum game except for the profits by the company/executives. So if you want to rage, rage against those. The discount "scheme" isn't really a scam in and of it self.

Any chit chat going on? Did you ask if you could take a selfie? That's the ultimate in "bargain" shopping. No thanks doc, no anesthesia for me. I'm doing that next time!

Yeah, lots of banter between the doctor and nurses but still very professional when it came down to business. From "in" to "out" was 14 minutes and 41 seconds. The nurses said about 1 person a month does it without sedation and 90% of those are men. I guess for CYA reasons they super document everything before during and after the procedure. Even my attitude and emotional status.
No selfie, but they give you a bunch of pictures. lol
Got my biopsy results. Two beige polyps. 😀
