2024 Summer Olympics from Paris
Amazed we don't have a thread yet. I will do up a fancier OP tomorrow but this will do for now as a placeholder.
Women's softball opens the games in roughly 5hrs with soccer/football, archery and some other sports starting before the opening ceremony Friday night Japan time.
PREDICTIONS: Rona causes a stupid amount of issues, I still waste approx 100hrs of coverage anyway.
Aussie peeps, is that the most epic collapse in AUS sports history?
wtf is AUS #9 doing? she pushed Sedrick on her way
the replay doesn't even feel like real life
Nothing adds value like people crying after losing a game. If I'm starting a random collection then I want vials with the tears of athletes after losing the big one.
I cried after losing a basketball game in grade 6 once.
MOV is so huge in basketball, unlike rugby they don't shunt you directly from a pool to a seeded slot.
Three pools. The top two pool winners (by wins then MOV) get 1 seeds
The third pool winner and top #2 (by wins then MOV) get 2 seeds
The next two #2s get 3 seeds
The top 2 #3s get 4 seeds
They make it so that you can't play a rematch in the first round
I don't know if the seeds are equal or if there is 1a and 1b etc
So right now USA with a +26 against Serbia and a giant favorite over PR and South Suda
I have tickets to Canada-Spain & France-Germany (Wemby!) and am hoping all teams will be gunning for #1 seed (Spain has to win as well).
Everybody will definitely be gunning to be in Pot D (one of the two 1 seeds), which would mean you don't have to face the US until the finals
it's JIMMER time!
Why are u s and a getting clobbered by the serbians in 3x3 basketball? Did USA not send (anywhere near) their best people or is it that different from 5x5?

no incentive for pro basketball players to go. i'm not even sure most of the USA knows 3x3 is a thing that exists.
plus serbia are like the kings of it outside the olympics.
Who was the USA's black female swimmer that ran down the huge favorite defending champ, maybe Russian, in one of the distance events either 2021 or 2016? I can't find it. I thought it was Simone Manuel but it doesn't seem to match up to her record. Huge upset it was. I think she might have been an alternate on the USA team and ran down the GOAT, if I remember right at all.

Remember when Embiiid broke down crying when the Raptors eliminated him?
Pepperidge Farm Remembers.

Pepperidge Farm Remembers.
The North remembers. Marc Gasol kindly consoled Joella and we haven't seen him that close to a conference finals since.
I shed a few tears of joy in that moment.
Because that Kawhi shot immediately became the GOAT Raptors moment. Because what was it before? The Raptors beating the Knicks in round 1 for their first playoff win? The pointless conference finals run? The Shot was 100% it.
Of course Raptors won the title soon after to claim the top spot but that moment was special.
I’ve never been prouder to be American than when Jimmer hit a long-range two-pointer

.
Vince Carter crushing it at the slam dunk contest in a Raptors uniform.
did the triathletes swim in the Seine?
Are the US media displaying the medals table by total medals again, or are they doing it correctly by golds?
Are the US media displaying the medals table by total medals again, or are they doing it correctly by golds?
it depends
the U.S. media is pretty broad
the NYT is doing something cool. the link is paywalled but this pic gives you an idea
all this said, USA#1 is in an excellent position to yet again win the most medals in another summer Olympics
Their gold to medal ratio is really bad this time so far.
Are the US media displaying the medals table by total medals again, or are they doing it correctly by golds?
idk why they don't just do gold = 3, silver = 2, bronze = 1 and split the difference between the two
also who even cares, it's like soccer is 2 medals, rugby is 2, basketball is 4, and gymnastics is 58394832 and swimming is 23847293489384
