For anyone thinking of heading to Borgata, seems like someone has barricaded themselves in a bathroom with a gun. No one allowed to leave or enter the casino. Tons of cop cars outside, and cops with rifles drawn. I would avoid the area FWIW

Wow thanks for the info

Can someone report how things are at Borgata mid-week during the summer.
I'm thinking of making a short trip but not if it's "dead"....

Thanks

It’s dead compared to the weekends but there will be 1-3 and 2-5 games and probably PLO. I avoid it because the games I like (mid limit hold em and stud) only run weekends generally there but if you are playing NL I think it’s fine. And outdoor pool etc will be less crowded if you’re staying there (not to mention much cheaper hotel rates).

Anyone know how to gold + lounge works for bringing a guest? Is it double the comps if you’re bringing someone?

Yes pretty sure it's capped one guest and you pay $12.50 in comps each.

Figured as much, thank you

Well, I just got home from a 6 day Vegas trip.

I have to say, I’m not one to complain much about MGM and the way they do things and how borgata has gone down hill etc etc etc.

BUT, after spending a week out west, I will say that I will complain less about Atlantic City, more specifically Borgata since that’s the only place I frequent.

It’s a whole different world out there, I played in 5 poker rooms, some of the worst dealers I’ve ever encountered. Just slow, lazy, not paying attention to what’s going on, easily distracted.

One of the perks I will cherish in AC is the use of comp dollars. Paying 6-7 dollars for a bottle of water from a gift shop because you can only use your card for your tier discount is nuts.

Anyway, sorry for the rant, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Yea as much as we complain about borg, it still is very good (if not the best?) as far as mgm comps go..

Earning and spending seems to be harder anywhere else.

I have a really nice vegas offer I'm trying to hold off until the wpt.

What property did you stay?

Earning as far as poker goes was easier at MGM properties. It was $2 per hour at lowest stakes.

The pits were another story, I played blackjack the night before we left for about 4 hours with some friends, 50$ minimum. Got 3 dollars in comps, at Borg, that’s easily 25-30 bucks in comps.

We stayed at MGM grand, not impressed at all, fyi, i also have a gold card.

You earn 2 bucks an hour at borgata or aria. Not sure about Bellagio.

At Borg you need to waste time having them move your poker comps to your card and 99 percent of the time they don't do it instantly. In Vegas you need to waste time having them print it out on piece of poker like it's 1993.

Both dumbass systems I guess Borgatas is slightly better since they're actual mlife comps but obviously much worse than pre MGM where they just automatically went on your card.

All good things come to an end I guess. MGM has really turned me off to their whole organization. (Not just in AC.) I think I spent my last dollar with them two summers ago in Vegas.

Could not agree more. Now I play at a bunch of non MGM properties. MGM cheapest operator out there, cutting corners at every opportunity.

The main problem is that Delaware and then Pennsylvania got poker and syphoned a majority of players away from Atlantic City. PARX is closer to NYC than AC and re-directs many players in that direction from NYC. Add in all the private/underground games in NYC and elsewhere, and the player pool in AC is much smaller than before (there are only three rooms left in AC, only one with games over 1/3 and games other than hold'em). That's not Borgata's fault. Fewer cashiers, closed eateries and limited

You must not have seen the Borg poker room much before mgm took over bc it was the most vibrant packed poker room that I’ve ever seen. The energy on the room Thursday to Saturday was the best anywhere.

They're not short staffed NOW because of the COVID, true. But they instituted polices then in an attempt to survive that caused them to realize they can get by with fewer staff and save money. And until conditions change that force them to hire more (and pay more), they're not going to do it. The same with their comps. But while you and I aren't blaming staff in the poker room, there's a lot of vitriol shown to them in this forum (frequently warranted) so sometimes it's hard to know who the post

They had the best poker room anywhere. Spreading a ton of games and limits. Ton of people and energy in the card room and they mgm becomes sole owner and proceeds to run the card room into the ground by being cheap operator cutting corners at every opportunity by eg not having enough staff to run the room, cutting hours on the cage, rebranding restaurants to generic ****, and reducing comps. This is painfully obvious to anyone that has spent any amount of time in this card room before MGM became sole owner of borgata.

yeah I think by far the biggest contributing factor is players not receiving room offers anymore

the room has been on a steady decline for years, but at least now it has a director who's actually trying to improve things and bring players back - I played in a PLO tournament during spring series and I must say the quality of dealers was the best I've ever seen as far as the Borgata tournaments are concerned

It seems to me like the room is somewhat on a right track but who knows how long it would ta

Yeah agree this is huge factor. Without comp rooms a ton of players will not go or will not go regularly. I dont get the profitability etc of dumping comp rooms for poker players when I’m spending money in other parts of the casino and they’re collecting a “resort” fee.

We have plenty of games in Philly and Baltimore. No reason for me to go to AC if they stopped offering free rooms which they fortunately haven’t on my end.

Some players I know don’t even bother swiping in anymore because the dumbass system is so inconvenient

My favorite part is when you want to use them right away but the person working the desk lies to your face and tells you they can't put them on in real time when they can.

Excited that they have the tournament series this September. Been awhile since I been there. I hope they are doing the tourneys in a better area than that corner across from the room.

Speaking of silly systems, they usually do their tier credit dump for poker hours played in the last few days of the month, or the 1st or 2nd of the next month. So for July play, it should have happened by now.

But, I'm hearing nothing has been added for the month of July yet! Why can't it be consistent/automatic???

You are in luck. They are doing that tourney series back in the old bigger convention center rooms next to the parking garage. It's going to be their first MTT series there since covid. I'm hoping the turnouts are big and that leads them to doing the winter poker open in the same spot for Jan.
