Talk About Movies: Part 4
Somehow threads merged, so here's part 4 of our ongoing movie discussion.
I saw that was coming to Beverly... that place has been pumping.
Their presentation of Showgirls was wall to wall, mostly female.
My concern is, and I have to, uh, check with my accountant, that this might bump me into a higher, uh, tax bracket.

Yesterday I watched Preston Sturges's Hail the Conquering Hero. It stars Eddie Bracken and the Sturges stable of character actors. William Demarest, who played Uncle Charlie in My Three Sons (that's going way back) is one of those who usually is the top character actor.
Bracken is played up my s group of Marines to be a war hero because the Marines want him to reunite with his mother. Bracken never got out boot camp in WWII because of hay fever, so he stays away from home for a year because of that.
Naturally, the phony hero turns out to be the real hero by the end of the film.
As usual with Sturges, there's a dark side to his films. Perhaps it's a comment about what it means to be a hero and America's need to worship heroes.
Nevertheless, it's always great to see Bracken.
lol undie theater 😃
I would go to that, too
Isn't that kind of kitty-corner from Palace Station?
Palace Station? No

I've always enjoyed this movie, and, from the same gang, Miracle of Morgan Creek.
Miracle of Morgan's Creek might be my favorite. William Demarest almost has a starring role, and Eddie Bracken and Betty Hutton are wonderful.
I think this was the film in which Sturges did a four minute long take because someone said he couldn't do one.
My favorite scene:

I was going for the undie theater joke, referencing Crazy Horse. Isn't that kind of diagonal from the I15/Sahara intersection from Palace Station?
I can't follow you guys.

Seems like "The Office" would be a good name. As in, "Working late at...".
Shhhhhhh...that's where we tell our women we're going and we're actually telling the truth so they can't get mad once they find out what it is.
Behold the mighty sandworms

Mothers freak out when their sons grow up. A perfect movie thought to be deeply flawed by some because of the prevalence of dei ex machina, but nevertheless a perfect movie.
Too intense to be watched at home alone. See it in a theater or with friends. Check it out!

Kate Hudson was so hot in that movie. Too bad she turned out Hollywood crazy.
I always identified with the Rolling Stone kid even though nobody would think it in real life.
