2024 Summer Olympics from Paris
Amazed we don't have a thread yet. I will do up a fancier OP tomorrow but this will do for now as a placeholder.
Women's softball opens the games in roughly 5hrs with soccer/football, archery and some other sports starting before the opening ceremony Friday night Japan time.
PREDICTIONS: Rona causes a stupid amount of issues, I still waste approx 100hrs of coverage anyway.
Lyles finished very well. I still want to punch him in the face.
Caitlin def should have been on the team. her passing is the best in the world. her 3 point shooting might be too.
but whatever, they're massive favorites to win gold anyway, and Caitlin needs rest. it's hard to play a season of college ball, and jump into pros with no break.
I've analyzed it in details and came to the conclusion that Duplantis at 1.03 to win gold is value because the odds of him getting hit by a javelin or pulling his hammy in warm-up are lesser than that
we had a woman in the lady pole vault competition. she's done the highest vault of any competitor all year
she came in to the qualifying round, failed the lowest height three times, clapped the crowd and then went home
Sounds like she couldn't handle the pole.
Well referees were pretty terrible (normal) in that 3x3 game, but USA still should have won that comfortably.
Is duplantis the biggest favourite for an individual gold in the entire Olympics? certainly must be in track and field.
Bonus question: is he further ahead of his peers than Bubka was?

I'm sure someone will come in with the actual odds but I imagine that Ledecky over 1500m must have been close.
The USA may rule the pool, but Team GB has just started mining for gold at the velodrome.

DuPlantis!
great ref here in EGY v FRA
that's not a PK for me either
lmao the dutch bloke just destroyed France in the 3x3
you hate to see it if you're France
i know all the olympics soccer teams have the over age player allotment. but it's hard for me to root for France when you have mateta celebrating like the senior who's the best player in the Junior Varsity games.

He’s definitely further ahead than Bubka.
Bubka was incredible and dominant but his competitors were a little closer to him and he was fallible - witness the Olympics he didn’t win or even medal in.
There is a total inevitability about DuPlantis that Bubka never quite had
The Kenyan woman had her 5k DQ reversed? Good.
