Top time results are usually rabbited races where multiple pacers are dragging the field through specific times. Championship racing is a completely different animal.
If you want to see a masterclass in the 1500m, watch Matt Centrowitz’s gold medal race in 2016. He did not have close to the fastest seasonal or career pr but he controlled the race to match his strengths.
Jakob may very well win and him being the favorite makes sense, however, I think Kerr will beat him unless the race gets out super hot and maintains a blistering pace through the first 3 laps. It’s really really hard to break the wind for the entire pack and grind out a win in a 1500m championship race against the level of competition that exists in this era.

genuinely appreciate the insights
wish they could stop the count right now though 😀

Here is my list indepth prediction
I’m going with
Timmy goes out hard
Jakob goes with him
Nugese close in tow
Kerr doesn’t panic and stays front of 2nd tier with Cole and Hobbs on his shoulder
Timmy pushes through 700 and Jakob takes the lead trying to grind
Kerr and Cole move up and hold position
Cole moves too early on the last lap after Kerr starts his first move
Both pass Jakob with 100 to go
Cole fades to bronze
Kerr wins “easily”
Someone surprising nabs silver like Gourley
Ideally- I’d love for Kerr
Pretty crazy when 3.28 misses the podium
Awesome race.
and every single guy who beat him had not only their personal best but also set the new national records for USA and GB
Ingebrigtsen's time of 3:28.24 was better than his olympic winning run 4 years ago
as they keep saying "all 3 guys in front of him had the race of their lives"
would make same wager a million times over in the multiverse and print
really glad i'm in Maine right now because if i were in a state with lots of kiosks available i would have had 20x more exposure to that race
but also, USA #1!

Idk. I liked Kerr going in too. Such a racer and much better finishing pace than Jakob.
Very impressive that they all had that pace left at the end of such a fast race.
squid, going back to the earlier conversation on arbing
there was a +140 no gold on jakob available
so if i really hustled and conquered the logistics (would have needed a mover in another state) could have bet both sides and guaranteed a tiny profit
i still liked jakob up to -150 though - hence why i didn't arb but went for the all or nothing approach
3:27 is insane. How gassed are these guys after that effort?

A runner can't go at his own pace?
They can, however, if you run from the front, you use more energy than sitting on someone’s shoulder. Ballpark, on a low wind day, leading costs you approximately 0.2 seconds per lap compared to the person using you as the pacer.
If you decide not to go with the leaders, which is a reasonable strategy at some distances (see women’s 3k steeple), you may put yourself in a position too far off the lead where the differences in closing speed is not wide enough to make up the gap even if you have more energy by laying off the hot pace.
Probably less than you’d imagine. The recovery time is quick for athletes of this level.
I am thoroughly enjoying the one time every four years where I get to geek out over one of my favorite sports.
Pumped for freestyle wrestling as well.

Track is probably my favorite Olympic sport to watch.
Thoughts on Cole? Seems like most of the discussion has been about Ingabritsen/Kerr failing to get it done, and nugoose seemed to be the American people thought had the best shot.
can tell how young and hip chat is by the amount of seinfeld, simpsons, and friends gifs in the chat 😀

About a month ago I wrote something on another site. Paraphrasing
Nugese is (was) the fastest American. He ceiling was silver but the likely outcome was 3-5. He doesn’t have a kick as devastating as Kerr and hasn’t shown he could beat Kerr or Jakob. He clearly is talented but I don’t think he has the same level of self belief that he deserves to win.
Hocker is an enigma and my view was he could miss the finals completely or win gold because he has the best kick in the field. I thought he had a punters chance at gold, but the race would need to be 332 or slower. I didn’t envision him kicking the way he did off record pace. That **** was unbelievable.
End of rant
Side note - every single one of them is doping but I don’t care.

think sbr and rob would agree to a 1500m4rollz?
I had an hour right at the beginning with a divorce lawyer just to understand the process etc and she was $660ph. That was enough to persuade me that avoiding lawyers as much as possible was the best outcome. Albeit, to your point given our settlement will be dividing several million $$ a small win or loss can result in 5 figures.
the Mediation process here is run by a third party. they have a structure around child supervision, financial split, maintenance etc that is guided by the law and lik
So did this meditation work out?
I should’ve phrased my statement differently.
I believe they are all doping but don’t have proof.
My understanding is cycling drugs seem to set the curve and other sports like track start using some of their cocktails a few years later.

We adopted a 3rd dog (2nd Bernedoodle) early in the summer. She was not well cared for (no grooming in 18 months, no vet treatment in over 2 years, not spayed, underfed, etc). I said give her to us and we will get all those things done while you find a home for her. Was supposed to be a foster and that concept lasted roughly 48 hours when I realized there was zero shot I was letting anyone else treat her poorly again.
Absolute angel
Good on you, Slim. Beautiful dog
