2024 MLB Season Thread

Nobody wants these games to start more than Mannfred.

Shohei just spoke to the media for the first time. In a prepared statement, he said:

-He never bet on baseball, or any other sport,
-He didn't know that Ippei lied to him, and that Ippei took the money from Shohei's account to pay his gambling debts
-He'll continue to cooperate with the investigation, and play as the investigation plays out.

If all that's true, then this is probably the best possible outcome for his reputation going forward. He's a naive star athlete who trusted the wrong person. It happens.

In any event, these games are about start! Last year, just like we all predicted, "Someone Else" came on strong in the playoffs, as the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks for the World Series. Can that happen again?

T-Mobile is giving away a free MLB.tv subscription ($149 value) to T-Mobile subscribers starting TOMORROW (Tuesday 3/26 - April 1). Don't miss out.

So speaking of gambling, here are the current best odds for the World Series you can find, from Vegas insider!

Blue Jays walked Aaron Judge multiple times with the bases empty. They want no part of the guy hitting .322/.456/.701.

Yankees should counter by flipping Judge and Soto.

I was talking to two friends about this.

1. Have Judge lead off and Soto bat 2nd.
2. Shift your 5/6 hitters to position 8/9 for more chances of base runners when Judge is up to bat.
3. ?????
4. Profit

Just give Judge and Soto the most possible plate appearances. There is a huge drop-off after them.

They are the best duo since Ruth and Gehrig.

Two doubles and two homers for EDLC, was hoping for a couple steals. Dude has some kind of freak game of cycle, 5 hits, 5 runs, 5 steals in him. Anyway it seemed the season wore him down last year, anemic slugging late, but hopefully turning that around late this season. Good sign tonight.

Ohtani Homers, and steals third on his double, his only chance on base to do so. 7 steals in his last 8 games, without being caught. He's on to something.

If he can get 50 home runs, he'll open the 50/50 club. That would be epic.

34/32 through 112 team games.

Believe this is major league park number 11. Though I swear I'm missing one so it could well be 12.

Nice park.

Hmmmm. It ranks between 2 and 5 depending on what measures you're looking at from my 11

Yea I figured at some point teams would start walking him a lot and they'll have to flip the 2 of them.

idk man, i went there once when i was like 10 and it's based off that very vague and incomplete memory but that's probably the best power ranking system

what we really need to do is get someone to take their kid to every park before they reach puberty and then get them to compile a complete list when they are middle aged

LOL Asterisks.

👍

Should be there Thursday. Think the last game I went to was when Ohtani was on the Angels last year. Might go see him again next weekend.

I'm here until Friday, depending on a few things I may very well go back tomorrow or Thursday.

Baseball is the best

Not baseball related but as I'm in St Louis.....

If any STL natives want to recommend a smokehouse that isn't Pappy's, Bogart's or Fourth City please do!

Sugarfire or Salt + Smoke if you are looking to switch it up, but they are local chains so no idea how the quality varies from location to location.

Broadway Oyster Bar for Cajun and live music at night. That's where I bring people out of town to.

Have fun.

I'm in slightly less good seats tonight but they cost me less than $11 including fees.

The issue is the concessions on this level absolutely suck if you aren't in a box or the special seats between the bases - guess that's why so cheap - but still what a view for $11.

Great ballpark

Paid 24 dollars for these last night at the last minute

It was raining so the market really tanked

Tigazzzzzzz

lol M's

I get the feeling with Ohtani, as opposed to stat padding, he feels he isn't doing enough (no pitching, no fielding), and thus is emphasizing the stolen bases. Dude is used to being mega busy, and DH-ing with no pitching isn't enough for him. So he's pouring himself into whatever he can. Sick playa. His potential 50/50 feels heavy, not light and manufactured. He's no Westbrook.

37/35 through 121 games. He got on base once today and stole 2nd and 3rd. His stolen base rate the last 3 weeks is very high, he's swiping a bag pretty much everytime he's on base but being in a hitting slump (other than 3 home runs the last week) hasn't given him a lot of chances.

Struggling White Sox to drop season-ticket prices for 2025 (source:ESPN)

not sure which fan base has it worse right now - White Sox fans or the current Oakland A's fanbase.

White Sox intentionally walked Juan Soto to face Aaron Judge. That didn't work out very well for them.

Judge is now slashing an insane .333/.467/.707.

His wRC+ is within peak steroid Barry Bonds territory.

Juan Soto is slashing .307/.438/.615.

They are the only two hitters in all of MLB with an OBP above .400.

Lol, the Mets had the hawk tuah girl throw out the first pitch this afternoon.

Lol, the Mets had the hawk tuah girl throw out the first pitch this afternoon.

I heard her spitball is the stuff of legends.

I want to know if Uncle Steve called her personally with the offer.
