Now that the Olympics are over Australia can finally welcome back their breakdancing hero. I’m sure there will be a parade and everything.
Feely, you going to the parade?
I’ve heard a lot of people talking about her but I’ve managed not to see it.
Will not be going to the parade but a good Games for the Aussies
yo feels, williams college is in berkshire county touching vermont, if you take route 7 south until you're about to touch connecticut at the bottom of the county then you'll hit the town i grew up in and where my brother lives
i go there a lot, if for any reason you're going to be in the area let me know
very impressive moxie to get up on stage and do that in front of the world.
now watch the gold medal match to see what her competitors were doing

There’s no danger of me heading near there. I never see my brother anyway unless he comes to Australia to visit my parents. We aren’t close.
His brother is a good kid though….at least until he joins the CIA!
well williams is probably the best liberal arts school in america - i'm sure he'll be fine
it was a non starter for me being so close to home but it's highly unlikely i would have been accepted anyway

yeah, he is super bright and works very hard. didn't get into Ivy League because apparently being middle class and white doesn't work there any more? Seems weird but I read a few articles on it and it seems for whitey, it's almost exclusively legacies and disadvantaged kids only?

yeah but i think this could be changing as the asians successfully sued the schools to remove race from consideration on applications - how enforceable that is is another thing though
my college was exceedingly white because the main reason to go there was it was the best school in the mountain time zone (sorry garick) and even runs on a block system where you only take one class at a time for a 3.5 weeks then have a 5 day break before the next class and so if you like mountain sports and still want to go to a good school that's the one you choose because it gave tons of time out on the mountain
it may not be much of a surprise but kids who choose a college for the amount of time on a mountain it gives them are going to be all white people
they always made a big deal about trying to attract more minorities, even built a really nice housing that only minority students could live in as a hopeful way to attract them - was kind of weird that the nicest housing on campus was off limits to white students and obviously all the minorities would choose to live there and so it just created the cobra effect of a segregated society

It's not quite that bad. IF you see a white kid at a school that's making the lists, you are 90% looking at a premium cognitive motor who aced all the tests in high school. The rest are legacies and children of washed up celebrities and politicians.
The second girl in that lineup is objectively good looking. There is no denying that
Blonde, blue eyes, tall, fit etc
So I had thought USA needed breakdancing to tie China in the gold medal count. But apparently the best breaker is ... Vancouver?

I didn’t really watch the olympics this year but that doesn’t surprise me. Vancouver is a very multi cultural place with a deep hip hop history.
They practice by spending their time break dancing around insanely high real estate prices. The real estate market there is fried
dmw i specifically said liberal arts colleges, and williams is considered the best in that format
squid... i have a major dilemma
texted my buddy in kc to let him know i'd be passing through to see about getting lunch etc - let him know i'd be passing through on friday
he says hey mang, that's incredible timing these other two guys you were also very close with in college are actually going to be staying at my place this weekend, why don't you stay the weekend and hangout
so i'm super torn about that as these other people who'll be visiting are really good friends from before but have kind of lost touch with them over the years so it's a great way to rekindle that without the standard awkward stuff of "hey dude what have you been up to the last 10 years" texts
going to call the organizer tomorrow and see what their thoughts are on starting a day or two late
i haven't yet committed to hanging out for the weekend yet, but did agree to spend the evening with them, which means i'll need to drive 18 hours on saturady and obviously miss the pre-ride inspection and meeting and then be toast for the first day of riding anyway
are you going to be there hanging out at the start and finish line?
i'm thinking best bet is go there on my own a few days late and doing some mini version of it - perhaps picking out the best bits and then meet up when spc is done crushing it
i'm already pot committed to going, car is packed, bike is fixed, i also 100% have to stop at columbus ohio and kc along the way because i have expiring sports bet tickets that need to be cashed - so i need to head west anyway and also am really amped about doing the ride
but i'm thinking this is probably the best solution since this way i get to reconnect with old friends who i lost touch with while abroad and will ease me into it as i'm incredibly out of shape right now
this is the entire route currently planned - will apartment hunt along the way and then choose whichever i liked the most - i've tapped out my DK (which is the only legal sportsbook that bothered to open operations in maine), all but one bookie, and yahoo dfs just pulled out of maine so it's not really a viable place to live anymore
rr, when you hit the I-70 going outta Denver, stop in for lunch (or spend the night if your timing is such)?
5 mins off the road.....
I know what it is and see that Williams is on top of the USNews list. It seems that most schools you've heard of have added environmental science and now call themselves a 'university.'
????
have not been looking at modern rankings, just going by what was the case back when i was looking at schools - i knew for a fact i would not do well in giant lecture halls so focused entirely on small liberal arts schools - it's very much a thing and while technically the difference between a college and university is that colleges don't offer graduate degrees - that's a bit of an archaic definition as some now offer them (my college has one) and the real thing is class size
my average class was about 12 students, school had a rule that no class could be more than 25 students - i wouldn't have found that at an ivy or mit but would have found that at williams

awesome, will dm you - should be going through in sept/october depending on how slow i do it (and tiny chance i cut out seattle and do denver first because buddy in seattle just texted me that we should play that by ear because something has come up and if it isn't resolved before i'd arrive then it wouldn't be the best time to visit)
Hey RR,
reconnecting with old buddies sounds like the right move to me. The montana ride is something u can do anytime. Stop by utah any time for a ride with SPC or better yet come out during the winter and come skiing with us. We are both full epic (park city mtn resort) and cuz we so baller we are midweek deer valley.
Went riding the other day and ran into this absolute legend - Raygun!
Pretty sure there was a Kangaroo in the tube pouch on the front fender.

been in touch with organizer, he said that a lot of the race goes over private land so a late start throws off all the logistics of the permissions they got from ranchers with "last biker should be through by this time so then you can close all those cattle grates again" etc
organizer super chill though, he's sending me good info on select sections to ride

Who broke the thread and kept you wankers from chatting?
Been buried with work. Taking vacation is fraught with peril, given how much piles up while you're gone.
Finally had some time to mow the lawn when the heat index wasn't over 100 (although it was by the time I finished. 103 right now.) Anyone know what the rubber chute on a mower that directs the grass clippings is called? I need to order a new one, as the old one came off and I can't find all the parts.
Google to the rescue. It's called a deflector shield, which sounds more like in belongs on the USS Enterprise than on a riding mower. I guess I'll be safe from Klingon photon torpedoes once my new parts come in.
