Sorry to hear about the recent downswing man, hope you can turn it around. For now I would just avoid the 10/10 PLO given your life situation and play smaller, will have lower hourly but risk of ruin substantially less. Good luck.

This blog is like Rounders movie, you already played vs Johny Chan like Mike did and you lost entire roll in one hand like Mike did vs Teddy KGB, i hope your movie to have same happy ending. Looking forward to see more updates with good news, best of luck.

On the road again

Hey, thanks for the offer. I am in Vegas now, however, I’m headed back to Cali shortly. Just came here to grind out my Free Play, which unfortunately did not work out. Didn’t win a single hand of $1000 x 4, smh, the run bad continues.

I ended up losing twice with a natural 8 against a natural 9.

$1000 a hand is not grinding out it is degen gambling. Make it $100 a hand so you are doing 40 hands and variance is much less. You need to focus on reducing variance to give yourself a roll to let your skill edge in poker matter. And for the skill edge to be the key in poker you need play small enough so you can afford variance.

I get it, unfortunately I do not have the option to get $100 x 40 vouchers.

As of now, I’m back in California selling off as much of my property as possible. I have 4 more days left before I’m homeless.

Need to build up a bankroll fast

Managed to sell about $1,200 of personal property, currently sitting in a $5/5 game listening to a Patrick Antonius podcast. I have 2 more days until I’m officially homeless.

It’s like I know I should probably take a break from poker, but my life isn’t letting me.

I opened $25 in middle position with AJ, he called on the button.

Flop KJJ, I check, he bets $50. I call.

Turn 5, I check, he bets $100, I min raise his ass knowing it’s a donkey move and was trying to make him confused (?). He calls. At this point, I put him on Kx or weaker J and a lingering KJ in the back of my mind but not really.

River is a offsuit 10. I bet $150 and he jams for $400, I have $250 behind.

This moment I think of all possible hands. The only bluff he has here is Q-10 hearts I think, but I just put him on J10/KJ. My dead read is J10. I put in the call and he slow rolls me.

This hand I could get away from normally, it would be a discipline fold. I called because I needed the money more and I paid the price.

Officially homeless but we’re gonna make it. I don’t want action, I’m just gonna value bet the top of my range, putting ego aside.

Good for you. Take advantage of the fact most people will not properly adjust to that strategy especially if played by someone under 60.

Gl mate . And don’t forget. Whatever ghosts are hunting you , to win the fight you need to have your mind clear of all the troubles when you are sitting on the table otherwise the fight is already lost .
GL again and i hope your story it will have a happy ending, but not the massage one 😀)

Ran this twice and got scooped for $2000. Left me with $500, walked to baccarat and played $100 hands, lost 5 in a row. Been running so bad in every game I’ve sat in. Hard to not sound like I’m whining, but in pivotal points in my life, it’s not even a fair game.

Headed to Vegas for $1,500 FP. At least point nothing surprises me. I’ve taken a lifetime worth of beats this past 2 years.

If you have 80% of your bankroll on the table you are in too big a game for your bankroll. I know it is hard to play small games when you have played bigger but realize you currently need to play smaller so variance in one hand is sad but not a huge disaster. BTW I know you do not want to hear this but if you ran $40K to $1 million in baccarat you also have had a lifetime worth of sunrun at one point in your life. Please play bright and realize if you play too big your skill matters much less than if you play within your bankroll.

Once again you’re absolutely right. I honestly do appreciate your comments on this thread as it’s a constant reminder of what I need to do (which I do know).

It’s been hard to play within a bankroll when my bankroll has fluctuated so much within the past month and I seemingly always start with about $1k, giving me only 2 buy ins at $5/5. Locally in California, the smaller game would be $100 NL and I’m not so much worried about not beating the player pool there, but the rake is not beatable.

Currently on the road to Vegas. I’ve got $1,500 FP (should be $250 x 6) and I can’t help but think, if I had someone just bet opposite of me, I bet banker they bet player and hope that they win, I could easily convert this free play into cashable chips.

Good luck! Really enjoyed reading this thread, wild ride for sure.

It took a miracle to get to this point.

Turned $125 + $175, two chances at Yaamava into $300.

Caesars $1,500 free play requires 25 tier credit to unlock, which accounts to $125 in slot play. I loss $100 to activate the $1,500 free play.

For anyone that plays baccarat:

I put $250 x 2 on these two spots and lost. Anyone that “follows the trend” would’ve loss along with me, but my god do these hands just feel bad.

Turned the remaining $1,000 FP into $1,000. I’m still holding onto a $250 FP slip which I’ll use tonight.

Headed over to Bellagio with my $1,000 roll and bought in for $300 to play $1/3, second hand UTG with Kings, opened $12, got 3 bet to $60, I 4 bet $150 and he ships it all in. I’ve only folded kings preflop twice in my life (yes in cash game not tournament and both times I was against aces) and this time I called. Cooler but why me? This road isn’t easy. Ended up grinding 4-5 hours and ended the game up +$300~. No notable hands, pulled off a nut flush blocker check raise on river and got someone off a set.

I have $1,600~ in express comps so I’m enjoying a wagyu steak, don’t even have enough in the bank account to check in right now (they take a deposit).

Went back to 1/3 after the meal and decided to try to short stack $100, the max buy in is 100bb, but I wanted to try it out. I ended up check raising AhAd on 3 heart board and got snapped by Jh4h, feel like a donk move but whatevers, rebought for $100 and as always at these stakes, I’m more focused on value betting and staying at the top of my range. Not interested in picking up blinds/defending, I wanted nutted hands, playing all pocket pairs, suited aces and broadway cards in less than 3 bet pots. Ended up +$200 after a 3 hour grind.

Eating dinner now, contemplating sleeping in the car and heading back to LA tmr. I don’t have any clothes on me, ew .

I still have $250 Caesar’s FP

Nothing in your story bothers me except for giving up your dog, that’s like giving away a piece of your soul. You also seemed to play better when your dog was with you and you took breaks to check on the doggo.

Vegas seems to allow you to play smaller based on your needing to play 5-5 in California to avoid being raked to death. Is there a reason you don't stay there most of the time? Note how you have two instances in your last posts where if you had a majority of your bankroll on the table for the losing hands you do not get to play multi-hour grinds that put you up.

Dog is with a family friend at the moment, I will get him back once I settle down in my own place mid-late September. I’ve been sleeping in the car and can’t really bare to have him with me.

I am not playing the pits so my room comps will dry up, I plan on staying in Vegas for the first two weeks of September so I’m saving my “one time” for then.
