Shohei just spoke to the media for the first time. In a prepared statement, he said:
-He never bet on baseball, or any other sport,
-He didn't know that Ippei lied to him, and that Ippei took the money from Shohei's account to pay his gambling debts
-He'll continue to cooperate with the investigation, and play as the investigation plays out.
If all that's true, then this is probably the best possible outcome for his reputation going forward. He's a naive star athlete who trusted the wrong person. It happens.
In any event, these games are about start! Last year, just like we all predicted, "Someone Else" came on strong in the playoffs, as the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks for the World Series. Can that happen again?

It's a slow sports night so I have been watching AAA baseball tonight - LV Aviators vs. the Oklahoma Twisters or something like that.
I've seen something new today. Apparently, in AAA, u can challenge a pitch call (ball or strike). So, bottom 5th inning, the LV guy takes a "ball" at the top of the strike zone. Oklahoma challenges and pitch robot shows that the pitch caught the top of strike zone so it's changed to a strike. Count is now 0-2. Oklahoma pitcher proceeds to throw 4 straight balls nowhere near the strike zone. LOL AAA baseball but I do like the pitch challenge thing.

Baez's numbers in August (.258/.343/.516) are very solid.
If only he could replicate that, you know, ever. I'd also like to ask him how on earth it's possible to hit .127 with the bases empty and .339 with RISP and be the same guy.
I wonder if he'll be riding the pine the rest of the way while they evaluate Trey Sweeney.

I was trying to watch the PA team in the LLWS. The E:60 about the Galarraga perfect game came on. Everyone knows it was the wrong call. The ump and the hitter wants it to be overturned. I guess I get argument that it opens up the opportunity to challenge everything after the fact, but if no one likes this decision?
Why tf is Jung on 1st, easy decision to force the throw to 2nd?

In case you missed it. There was an 8-9-4-2 double play against the Mets which hasn't been done since 1900.
I hope Soto finishes off the season with a good last month or so. It looks pretty stark like peak Henry Aaron stat line, with much higher walks/OB%.
