TV: what have you been watching?

I think The Walking Dead may be the best drama thats currently airing/in production.

There, I said it.

i avoided the boys because it felt like it'd be more of the starwars/marvel tv that is just god awful imo (only made it 1-2 episodes into loki, arrow, wandavision, & star wars stuff) but because this thread keeps on saying good things i gave it a shot

much more in the line of the watchmen, where it's a gritty and dark world with real and adult problems

just finished pilot and love it, i'm sure it'll turn downhill a bit but i'm in

Yeah thats The Boy's whole thing. It constantly makes fun of Marvel. The Boys is great first 3 seasons. Season 4 airing now is a big step down though.

I'm enjoying Presumed Innocent....Jake G. always does a great job of being put-upon and paranoid. And Bill Camp is one of those character actors who always just raises the projects he's in by his incredible performances. The Looming Tower, Queen's Gambit, Joker, The Leftovers...he is always great and should be bigger star.

Saw there is a teaser for S2 of Severance which I will not be watching, but I did see it's supposed to be back in January 2025

Finally finished Sugar...my GF guessed the big twist an episode before the reveal...I was like, "no way, that makes no sense" but then when it happened, I was like..."yeah, that actually works." lol

Loved the show...and it's set up nicely for a season 2...hope it gets renewed. Great cast, too: Colin Farrell, Amy Ryan, James Cromwell, Anna Gunn....and others.

did she tell you what tipped her off?
in retrospect it seems so obv but when watching it never even occurred to me until

he stopped the bullet with his hand and took out that entire "gang" in the house

Lol

at first she was like, "is he a robot or a superhero or dead from the 50s and been revived?"

It was more a culmination than any one thing. But yeah, the bullet deflection was what had me thinking it.

I liked it, too, especially trying to name the noir films that were shown throughout the show.

Oh, and I knew there was something going on.

Really loved the clips...they weren't gimmiky at all.

Loved how they had Sugar

keep noticing shadow s in ceilings...obviously reminding him off the "birds" in the scenes of his home planet with his sister.

Don't know if the show got new writers, but the first few seasons of Cobra Kai were really fun, but now the show is absolutely terrible and just cringey to watch. Season 6 is dogshit.

Finished Presumed Innocent...

Spoiler

It was good...but they added a twist to it where the killer is NOT revealed to be the wife (as in the original) but someone else. Not sure it needed that extra twist, as I loved the whole wife-protecting-her family angle of the book. Seems like everybody was stopping by Carolyn's house the night she was killed!

Just finished Ripley on Netflix. Hard to really give it a rating? It definitely had huge plusses and minuses. 7 episode limited series. I already knew the gist of it since I had seen the movie with Matt Damon. This was better than that.

It was too long and started extemely boring. I almost quit several times during episode one and episode two. Episode three it really started getting good but once again too long and drawn out. But cinematically? It may have been the most beautifally filmed thing I have ever seen. That is what kept me hooked. The Black and White combined with the exceptional ciminatogaphy is what kept me hooked and going. I wish more stuff was filmed in B&W which was absolutely perfect for this project. Had it been in color? I woulda quit 15 minutes in.

60's Italy in B&W made this thing worth watching and if you can survive the first couple of episodes it is probably worth a watch if for nothing else artistcally. Just fantiastically beautiful to look at.

watched the first two episodes of Ripley and loved it! Didn't think it was slow at all...great atmosphere

Is this the best opening of any TV show ever?

Now there are 2 new Dexter series coming out.

Dexter: Original Sin which is a prequel taking place 15 years before the original and will have Michael C. Hall narrating.

Dexter: Resurrection which will star Michael C. Hall and take place after Dexter: New Blood

Gotta cash in while you can. I'll still watch.

Seasons 1-4 were the best.
Seasons 6-7 were average.
Seasons 5 and 8 were trash.

Did you watch the reboot? It wasn't perfect, but I thought it was way better than seasons 5-8.

I liked season 1 of dexter but that was it after that I lost interest stopped watching and never watched the reboot but I won't deny I am intrigued by the prequel just because I'm a big christian slater fan.

Worth watching Dexter up to season 4 with John Lithgow.

To quote Sepinwall:

And the climax... was such a perfect ending not only to that season, but to Dexter as a whole, that continuing the series felt redundant.

Unfortunately they didn't listen to him...

Jesus Christ, more Dexter after the reboot? Sequel and prequel? I'll watch it i guess because S1-S4 are so good and Michael C. Hall is so perfect as Dexter. Not so sure about the prequel though, didnt we have enough flashbacks in the OG series? Mabye finally a good ending this time for the sequel though? For the love of god get Batista involved. Him vs Dexter.

They were already the absolute king milking their shows for to many seasons and thus driving them into the ground (Dexter, Shameless, Homeland, Weeds, Californication,..), but seems like there really is no limit for Showtime.

nobody will remember:
- your salary
- how “busy you were”
- how many hours you worked

people will remember:
- this is the water
- this is the well
- Drink full, and descend. The horse is the white of the eyes, and dark within.

Just started watching Review, it's brilliant. Why did I wait so long to try this anyway?

2p2 worth it solely for show recs, this is great

also pointed me to Corporate, which just 3 eps in has warmed my heart
