An NJ Grinder's Journey as a Pro
Hi TwoPlusTwo
My name is Dan and I have decided to begin a blog about my experiences attempting to be a professional
I was shocked and sadden to read about Redsoxnets5's passing on Pokernews. I didn't know him well IRL another than playing with him a bit at Borgata over the last 7 years. Including a couple Almightys ago for last hour of the last flight. He always was a good dude at the tables. I was a big fan of this thread, following his journey for several years. I'm going to miss him. My condolences to his friends, family and girlfriend.
RIP
My condolences to his family, gf and friends.
Gonna miss you my friend, may you rest in peace
I am sad to see the news of Dan's passing. I don't visit 2p2 much anymore but his was always one of the few threads I made an effort to keep up with and read. He was obviously a very good poker player but more importantly he seemed to be a lovely person too. My condolences go out to his loved ones. RIP Dan.
Pokernews article:
And an article from 2020:
Wow terrible news.... very sad to see.
Rest in peace.
Horrible news.
Rest in Peace Dan
Wow. That is deeply saddening.
Rest in peace Dan
RIP. I was always a silent lurker but was always nice to come back and read about someone grinding/coming up from my home state. Just shocking. If anyone going through some **** feel free to reach out, there's always light at the end of the tunnel whether you can see or it not. :(
Followed your blog for a while and heard of your passing, we battled maybe once or twice on Pokerstars NJ or on WSOP (in some tourneys i think)? I grew up in the same area as you in CNJ and actually am from the town right by you. Even though I never knew you in person I think we would have gotten along.
Rest in piece Dan.
Holy crap.
Hadn't signed onto 2+2 in months, and only came back to see how Dan was doing.
So sad to hear, seemed like a great dude.
Anyone know what the issue was? Was it poker?
Absolutely brutal that a second attempt was even possible.
Just wow.
With respect to him, it had to have been. He posted about being dropped from his backing deal for MTTs at the end of April. Seems it was a fully backed situation for 5+ years that formed the basis of his life and lifestyle. He transitioned to playing cash on his own roll, posted about down swinging in his last real update here, then basically stopped updating.
Nice to see that from the family, I had wondered if they would want the thread closed at some point. His mom has great perspective.
Haven't been on 2+2 in ages but was shocked and saddened to see on poker news in their article of poker players that passed away in 2024 that Daniel was one of them. I didn't know him personally other than a few interactions on here but his PG&C was my favorite to read. Never came across him at a table in the live arena but if this thread is a reflection of who he was it was obvious he was a very good poker player and more importantly a better person! My condolences and prayers go out to his family, Amy and his friends, may he RIP!
RIP Dan. Still remembering you to this day.
RIP Dan. You were very loved and are dearly missed. Hope your spirit has found some peace.
First Matt Parry last year now Dan. Two seemingly successful pros that gave a lot back to the game and their circles. RIP Dan make sure you reach out to those that you think may be having issues even if it can be hard to notice from the outside looking in. Poker can be an unhealthy escape for all of life’s problems.
Kinda crazy how their backers are continuing after this like it’s business as usual not even a statement from them is crazy what a cold world poker is.

backers didnt make dude jump in front of train. there is nothing for them to say or do. crazy to come back to find out this ending considering how wildly profitable the regulated sites are now all dude had to do was keep grinding out that mtt schedule online like he did in the early days of the thread. trying to play live cash/mtts for a living is ridiculous
