DraftKings Launches Real Money Online Poker in the US
There's a new player in the US.
And it's not BetRivers Poker yet.
WSOP, PokerStars, and BetMGM have a new competitor.
Sports betting and casino giant, DraftKings, has launched player-vs-player online poker (not the casino poker game). As of now, only Electric Poker is being offered (basically Spin & Go), but more games are expected to be launched.
Only available in Michigan for now but expect more states to be added.
“This is just the beginning” says DraftKings as it makes a major move into true player-vs-player online poker.
Later this year, BetRivers Poker is also expected to go live!
So begins the second golden age of poker
Wow, great news.
Wow, this is great news for you basement dwellers out there.
But seriously, spin and gos? How can you announce the launch of a poker site and not offer ring cash games? Sports fans and recreational players don’t want to play SNGs. They want to play the normal format.
meh
i cant get excited for "legal poker sites" because its usually only for vegas or a one of those states..
and im in Tx but thats my problem
EDIT: I would get much more excited for a new poker room similar to BetOnline, Ignition, or WPN tho...go figure.
Yea we will literally be dead at the pace they move. The possibility of all 50 states joined together doesn't even excite me as far as traffic. It needs to be global or it really doesn't matter and that's not happening again in our lifetime. Pre black Friday is gone forever

Because they're not a poker company and want to push a rake machine format, degenerates will love the quick blast off play.
The interface is atrocious and I am not a big fan of being forced to go all-in every hand after 6 minutes of play but making it easier to play by not needing to download a client has to be good for attracting casual players.

Legalize it all tomorrow and it won't be close to pre black Friday which at this point is over 14 years ago.
The play in these is horrrrendous.
Seems like great news to me. Here's hoping they come out with cash and MTTs soon (without having stupidly high rake)!
I was thinking about this again today - could be a great way for new Sports Betting legislation efforts to turn into sports betting PLUS poker legislation. Obviously would have been better if this happened before ~22 states (left out the 8 which already have legalized online poker) legalized online sports betting.
Of course this might have no effect on what type of legislation efforts happen ... but hoping for the best.
Yeah, it would be nice for things to work out consistent with our own pipe-dream fantasies.
amazing news hope they go national with it
Do they allow scarf wearing euros who dont chat?

Can you guys give details for those not in Michigan? Like what are you talking about? Frequent bomb pots? Thx

It's a jackpot sit n go, but after [x] minutes (where X is determined by the jackpot size) every hand becomes a forced all in until a winner is determined.
Stupid format, imo.
And it's now live in Pennsylvania as well, with more US states likely to follow.

Not really - this format is the most accessible for recreational players (sports degens) and an absolute rake fest.
Marketed well, yanks will gobble this up.
just played one on mobile and it is absolutely awful. its so janky and glitchy. i took a screenshot and it crashed the app.
after i think just two levels, all players are forced all in. im in with 86o and lose. thanks. and there is antes too wtf why?
never again unless they drastically change something.
Being forced all-in every hand after an arbitrary amount of time eliminates the skill aspect and turns it in to a crap shoot.
recs won't and don't care. spin and go max/blast poker and similar formats have been money printers for poker sites for years.
if you want to convert a sports/casino player into a poker player, the best way to do that is by making it as similar to those as possible to ease the transition.
for a poker site, the less skill aspect the better, as people achieve lower winrates and the site can continue to cream off the top.

I don’t like what they’re doing because it definitely lessens the skill edge you can have.
That being said - I think the right strategy would revolve around amassing as many chips as you can before the all in rounds start (probably easier said than done)
