In other news

In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.

I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.

Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.

Sources? Have heard this claim a few times before would genuinely like to read/learn more about this.

5 billions of Qatari money in 20 years funding higher education in the USA

Qatar is definitely sending money. so is Suadi Arabia. So are western European countries. if you're looking for sources for the meaty part about brainwashing stuff you aren't going to find any because that's all conjecture.

even the link luciom just posted says passive wording like "universities seem increasingly willing" but nothing real. just JAQ'ing off. in it's current form it's a way to attack the anti-israel student protests as not authentic or genuine.

israel just funds research. qatar does brainwashing..

wtf do you think the middle eastern states were doing giving 300 million to Carnegie Melon, a premier engineering research university...

This is what I'm looking for yes. I'm sure many countries fund universities, but this isn't the first or second time I've read/heard about ''Qatar spends a lot of dark money at US universities to influence what is taught at said universities''.

Was hoping there was some good sources for these claims.

It is authentic: american students have been authentically brainwashed. Given it's impossible for any rational human being to be pro hamas, what other explanation do you have?

A combination of ignorance, propaganda and brain damage.

I have yet to hear of classes that teach pro-Hamas curricular. Again, would love for a source that clearly shows these claims. Seems like a very juicy story.

Wow this was actually really good

So you think there are no classes in which students are told by professors that the palestinians are oppressed by Israel, that they have a right to intifada and so on?

They've done a good job filling the space that the ACLU vacated.

as luckbox said, they are trying to fill the shoes of ACLU, after they went completely crazy

Meanwhile Walz is just an eversive authoritarian who hates the american constitution

There actually is guaranteed free speech for "misinformation" and hate speech in the USA, it is not controversial, it is fully allowed and it's a violation of american laws for the government to do anything against it.

It's incredible that's legal to campaign on violating the constitution, especially in one of it's most fundamental part, and it's even worse than half of the population (or more) agrees with him on this basic, eversive, position

He was responding to a question about people lying about what day the vote is/other election lies, which is illegal. And no, not all misinformation is protected in the US. For instance, misinformation about a person or entity, spread deliberately, is called libel/slander.

What’s hilarious is that Musk tried to sue advertisers for not advertising on his platform, which is literally trying to compel speech.

Walz said hate speech as well.

Musk is suing advertisers for cartel behaviour, an organized boycott of a company by companies can be a violation of antitrust laws, there are precedents. No one is getting sued just because they chose not to advertise with him.

The left wrote laws against allowing companies coordination in some matters, and they might apply here (or not, but it's not an obvious case, which is why it hasn't been dismissed immediatly which is what would have happened if it was as obvious as you put it).

In more than one country (not in Italy afaik yet though), it starts to feel like you renounce your masculinity if you vote left if you are young, and viceversa. SK numbers are truly insane tbh

It shouldn't be surprising if women's greater empathy leads them to a better understanding of socially progressive issues.

If that's the explanation, why wasn't it always the case?

Socially progressive changes such as gay marriage and trans rights are relatively recent and your average internet-bound incel has taken against things like that, seeking to take his anger out on social changes rather than on his own inability to adapt.

Why did young women give 0 **** to trans people until very recently if they are so much more empathic than young men, if your explanation is correct and the reason they moved left recently en mass is because they are more empathic about social issues? and why did they give 0 **** to racial and other social issues as well until recently (again, IF that's the reason for the recent leftward move)?

I of course have another explanation and it is college is radicalizing young women much more than young men, because young men are much more resistant to systemic manipulation of their value system by hierarchical superior people in society, as they are less conformist biologically (rather pretty often rebellious) than young women are, by a large margin.

This would explain the lack of similar effects in countries with much lower college attendance.

A modern 'Progressive' is a self anointed elitist that cloak themselves in a veiled ideology of Modernity that is really little more than Narcissism.

We are ALL ready for the new, the progressive and the modern ideas... just as we are all born only knowing life.

Progressiveness has no meaning.

I think it's just one of the things left, at least from a legislative perspective, to tackle. Slavery/Racism, Women's rights and gay rights all have some stuff on the books wrt protection/advocacy etc.

Education tends to come in for sure--but I wouldn't overlook the internet/the way it's connected society so much more than in the past.

Christians who hate the govt--how dare you question our govt. given right to spew lies constantly lol

It seems pretty easy for conservatives to get behind tolerating nazis/racists. They should be showing the same for commies etc to be consistent. But ya never really hear the whole I'd lay down my life thing about that other stuff. It's just about always framed the other way 😀

yes i am terrified about what else they will invent to keep gullible people hooked on progressivism after trans issues.

they have been trying "the climate" for many years now but it doesn't get the traction they hoped, what will they move to?

Listen to the full context of his answer. He’s talking about things that are already illegal to do. You can’t lie about election day or certain aspects of voting.

We’ll see about the musk case. I’m pretty sure that it will be thrown out without even being settled and then he made it worse. The judge he originally took it in front of who is a well-known right wing sycophant that has often been chosen by right wing litigants as “judge shopping” recused themselves in the case.

A lawsuit can be without merit but still not be dropped right away on procedural grounds.
