Politics posters chess thread
Mods - I hope this is OK, if not, move to LC or something.
Seems we've got a few chess players here, and some threads end up getting derailed arranging chess games. Figured maybe we could have a thread for it. So far, lagtight and I have played quite a few games, forumula72 and luckbox have expressed a wish to play, and a few other posters have taken an interest in passing. Post here to set up a game! We have been playing on chess.com so far.
No rush bro. It's an interesting position. I've been calculating different lines for a while.
d2,
Imagine that you and Gorgonian are playing a weird form of bullet chess as a team. You can take up 24 hours per move, but from your opponent's perspective, you will have moved in 1/86,400th of the time it took from your perspective. In other words, if you take the full 24 hours, it will seem to your opponent as if you moved in one second. If you take 12 hours, it will seem as if you moved in a half second. You and Gorgonian are allowed to talk to each other but you can't consult books or engines, nor can you talk to anyone else.
Under this format, are you and Gorgonian a top 100 player in the world.

Speaking only for myself, not a hope in hell. Watch one of Hikaru's streams for example - he figures stuff out in a couple of seconds that I wouldn't see given a lifetime. There comes an ability ceiling where all the time in the world is just not going to be enough to see some of the stuff that the top 100 players see instantly.

In blitz, I know that you would be hopelessly outclassed. I was thinking of 1/0 time controls. I assume that even the best players make some mistakes in 1/0.

Right, I am saying that even if I had infinite time per move and my opponent, a top 100 player, had 1 minute for the whole game, I would probably still be hopelessly outclassed. Well, I mean I don't know how steep the fall off is from number 1 to number 100, but certainly from what I've seen on Hikaru's stream, I would have no chance against him.
I suppose if we were playing live, I could try some sharking tactics like "look, a squirrel!" and palm his rook while his back is turned, then let his clock run in the ensuing confusion and begrudgingly agree to a draw/void game when he flags.

Seeing the game how it played out they have 0.001 % of winning .
Especially if money was on the line .
Yes it’s not 0 since a player could have a heart attack .
Lol thanks bro. You can have winner, you're next!
And if we draw, it's you vs both of us.
FWIW an example of Magnus vs a GM
Ps: Magnus is drunk too …
But yes ,I retract , maybe vs the 100th player in the world they have 1% chance .
“Maybe”
You keep ****ing up your youtube embeds dude. You just need the code:

PS. I've seen that vid before, it's crazy.
Yep, working now.
I am not confused about how much better the best players in the world are than Gorgonian and d2. If anything, I was overestimating how much a GM's play deteriorates under 1 minute controls and overestimating the amount that two run-of-the-mill players would benefit from team play.

I think team play is pretty much 0 benefit to the better player tbh. Your team is as good as its best player, under most conditions anyway. Maybe there is a chance that a weaker player will see a line that a stronger player missed, but I think that would be an exceptional situation. I mean, how much would you benefit from 2 players to a hand in poker?
Just for trivia chess interest .
Obv under 2000 rated difference with an IM is huge but what aabout a super GM like Magnus vs an IM ( or bottom range regular GM ) .
Beers are the equalizer 😀

Nxe4.. assume you are trading queens, I will take with the a1 rook.
And then next move has to be dxe4.
Yes. Nd4 for white after that.
I get out of that as well as I reasonably could have - down a pawn but the pawn black is up is doubled and I have drawing chances with good play I think. "Good play" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there, obviously.

Yes, this is all just playing itself until here-ish. I have a couple of options here, but I'll go with ...Bb7
