Mods - I hope this is OK, if not, move to LC or something.
Seems we've got a few chess players here, and some threads end up getting derailed arranging chess games. Figured maybe we could have a thread for it. So far, lagtight and I have played quite a few games, forumula72 and luckbox have expressed a wish to play, and a few other posters have taken an interest in passing. Post here to set up a game! We have been playing on chess.com so far.
Why not throw your queenside pawns at him?
The knight is a sitting duck in the centre of the board. It can't be defended in any useful way and, more problematically, it's a target that allows his f8 rook to develop to the d file with a tempo. My primary concern right now has to be not to allow his rooks to get to the 2nd rank. If I let his other rook out to an open file with a tempo, I be ****ed.
Basically, the answer to your question is that, at least right now, I don't have enough moves to do it.
Can't he just play a6 and kick your knight to some place stupid like c3? Actually maybe c3 isn't so bad. But what if he pins your knight with Ba6?
Yeah part of the reason for that move is to be in a position where I can get to c3 if he lets me. Doubt he will though. Getting to c3 gives me more chances than I should have in this position imo.
Ba6 I've looked through a few lines. Interesting position after Ba6..a4. I think trading off the knight for the bishop greatly increases my drawing chances, even with doubled pawns.
I mean, none of this is ideal, draw is my best outcome here, and it's not easy at all. I don't know the rating systems but it sounds like Gorg is probably easily 150-200 points higher than I am so a draw is not a bad result for me.

I've seen a few of Hikaru's streams and he's unbelievable - to highlight the disparity, while watching him do the puzzle rush, he completes a 2800 level, 5 or 6 move mate faster than I can figure out if the puzzle is for white or black.

I think you have to shove all your queenside pawns and hope he makes a mistake.
Well if I do that now, I'll lose faster, so I suppose it's got that going for it.
