Live nightly 140BI at Cherokee NC
Decided to drive over to Cherokee for the Sunday afternoon tourney. Total buy ins was extremely low with 20 total. Down to final 5, 3 pay, all older men playing pretty much ABC poker.
bb is 2000/1000 2000 ante. BB has around 68000, button has 85000, I have 32000
Folds to BTN who limps, I have AQo in SB, I limp as well. BB raises to 8500, BTN folds quickly. I jam after about 10 seconds. The results really don't matter I just want to know if this could be played differently. Am I just jamming to pick up the pot a major % of the time? I was not used to this small of a field and the amount of limping at all.

Just jam pre after the button limp.
Picking up that 7k at very little risk is much better than taking this to the streets, where you'll have to c/f a ton of flops with your stack size. You can also get called by worse.
Jam with AQ, like skiier said there's enough out there to add to your stack and AQ is not really a trapping hard, especially short stacked. GII and pray.
Shove is correct as played. Initial complete is just horrible. Should be shoving almost any decent hand. Only possible reason to limp or limp behind with a premium hand is to induce / 3-bet, but that is unlikely to happen here with one player to act.
Sounds like a juicy scene.

My thought process was exactly that, to induce. Is it that horrible? I'm at 16bb 5 handed with generally tight players.

lol, it is unlikely the one player to act raises. When he does, of course shove. Of course you need to build the pot with your big hands. Limping in with big hands to get value postflop is of course bad.

The BB is not likely to raise and you will be forced to play AQo OOP. For very little money (like if you hit the flop and bet and they both fold you win no more than if you jammed pre-flop and they both folded).
I would jam pre-flop after BTN limps because a raise to like 4 bb's could put you in bad position vs one or two players in a big pot where you will not hit a pair about 67% of the time.
Because of the way you played it the BB will never fold to your jam because of the pot odds.

Thank you! This is what I was wondering as well. What if I raise to 5bb, then get jammed on. I have to call off right? What does my jamming range right here look like? I'm jamming probably as low as 55/a7s yeah?

I would say my jamming range is basically my range of raising over limpers. But I would include all AXs hands here because we are SB and I think BTN will fold virtually all hands he limped with. So 55+/A9+/KQ/SC's(especially broadways).
I would likely call with some SC's and 22-44 maybe 22-55.
To some extent it depends on BB and BTN and if they are calling stations.
Jam
Your sub 20BB just jam and take it down pre.
You dont want to play AQo OOP.
If you were like 25-30BB you would 3bet but even then you could just jam pre.
