Let's talk about Stream and buy mountains of games

I thought we might like to have a Steam offers catch-all thread, and maybe even any general discussion about the service.

Like many of us here I have been using Steam since it first appeared with Half Life 2. Initially it seemed pointless and intrusive, but we put up with it because, well, we needed to play CS:S and HL2. Over the years I have found myself buying more and more from Steam and now I pretty much exclusively buy my games there. In fact Valve have so got their model sorted that I would pay a few dollars more for the ease of having it in my Steam collection rather than the hassle of hard copy install.

This is not really necessary though since these days if you wait around for offers you can end up owning more than you can ever play. I have Batman, Far Cry 2, Bioshock 2, Borderlands, Torchlight and much more just half played or not played at all. All of these have been purchased at a reduced rate.

Anyway rather than waffle on further the reason I started this thread is to point out

--->

Left 4 Dead was my game of 2008 but I had enough other stuff to play and was a bit pissed off that they released 2 so quickly afterwards that I didn't buy it at full price. Now I am immediately picking it up. Sadly for you hardened players you can expect a wave of n00bs to arrive due to this deal.

That is all, feel free to add any good Steam offers as and when they appear to this thread and also to discuss the Steam service in general.

I enjoyed it a lot, will definitely purchase any expansions that come out.

I refunded Inscryption after ~1,5h (call me a wuss) and bought Dave the Diver instead and instant love! Thanks. 😀

I just noticed this weekend that Netflix has a fairly robust game offering. Added the following to my iPad:
GameDev Tycoon
World of Goo
Dead cells
Into the Breach
OXENFREE
Spiritfarer
Hades
TMNT Shredders Revenge

I have a few of these on PC but haven’t gotten to them but may be more likely to play if I keep my laptop at home and just bring iPad on trips.

What have you done?!

Just playing this now, fun game. Definite HOMM vibes. My weird laptop isn't even melting through the floor, which is nice!

This has been on my wish list and will give it a try, since you guys are all recommending it. I don't typically spend more than $20 on a PC game these days, but I will give it a go. Thank you!

I just retried S2 golden because I felt pressured by you but I noped out after 15 minutes, I'm satisfied despite skipping 2 with sparks 😃 Good luck, you'll get it 😀

I completed the game but I then read a few game sites and realized I missed a couple things.

I didn't talk to Cornelius before leaving for the final Megastructure trip. Oops.

I didn't do the Star Temple in the Megastructure which opens after doing all 24 stars. (Which I did)

I also read that adding a certain launch parameter in the Talos2 Steam launch options will unlock a checkpoint menu to go to different parts of the game. (Haven't tried it)

Not sure if any fans in here of the old OTG HTSF Let's Plays. He just started Witcher 3 for the first time.

They added Case of the Golden Idol about four weeks ago too, I had never played, absolutely loved it. Easily worth my Netflix subscription for the month.

Mash, others:

How's Dave the Diver going? I was told it's similar to Stardew Valley.

I don't think they are very similar. I played Dave for about 25 hours and gave up, I think it's an ok game. You do eventually grow crops and stuff in Dave.

Stardew valley much better in my opinion.

Yeah too early for me to say, only about 5 hours in, I like the premise, you get hooked up easily. I can see myself playing it and chilling for a while.

is "free" on Game pass and it seems awesome after about an hour or so.

Music is great, it's got a nice graphical style and the gameplay is speedy and with excellent controls.

Basically you parkour through (so far small and compact) levels while killing demons with various weapons and abilities that you pick up as you run. It's got both a speedy parkour element as well as some puzzle-solving to find the quickest route and some collectibles and so far it's pretty addicting.

6+ hours in now and still seems awesome.

Not a type of game I typically enjoy which makes it even more weird that I like it so much.

Also - I'm pretty sure the voice actress who does Neon Violet was also in HuniePop so that obviously brings back fond memories.

Oh, I just got Gamepass last night from Blizzard and I activated it and researched a few games and also gave Neon White a shot. It's been a while since I played something so original, definitely +1 to the recommendation.

At the $8 that it's priced at now, I STRONGLY urge anybody that has not played the game to get it right now. Do not look anything up about it. Do not read any reviews.

Great game. A must for any Slay the Spire fans. The user interface is weird but not bad after you get use to it.

Some of those bosses I have no idea how to beat. Interesting challenges.

Thanks for the recommendation.

I've got like 1000 hours in StS, but I'm another one that didn't really enjoy Inscryption that much. The first act was ok but not great. The second and third acts were not enjoyable at all to me.

The art legit looks amazing.

Haven't been able to game much and won't for another couple weeks, but friends got me an invite to Deadlock. Anyone been trying it?

Also heard about Spectre Divide.

Not quite sure to be honest, my friend had signed up for the beta testing and then was able to pass on a bunch of invites.

Once I actually try it out I'll see if I can pass on invites.

I always get the urge to go back and try the classic Fallouts, and I just never can stick with them. Some games don't age for some people, I guess.
