NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

Just 8 days until Florida State plays Georgia Tech!

A lot happened while you were away:

Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC

The Pac-12 went out in a blaze of glory:
Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA are headed to the B1G
Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado are headed to the B12
Cal and Stanford along with SMU are somehow headed to the ACC
Poor old Wazzu and Oregon State are now aligned with the MWC in some sort of in-flux relationship

The conferences are huge now, and the schedules are wildly imbalanced. Florida might have the hardest schedule in the history of the sport, while Missouri's playing a sun-belt slate.

FSU and Clemson play each other, but then play ZERO common ACC opponents

Utah/Baylor and Arizona/Kansas State play non-conference games against conference opponents

LSU and USC play in Vegas!

Boise goes to Oregon, a team they've never lost to!

Texas at Michigan!

Alabama at Wisconsin!

Notre Dame at ATM!

Clemson vs Georgia!

And there are some incredibly juicy new conference matchups:

Texas @ ATM is back!

Texas vs Georgia

Oregon vs Ohio State

USC @ Michigan

USC vs Penn State

And then the bizarre:

UCLA @ Rutgers is now a conference game

Syracuse plays home and away against Cal and Stanford for some reason

Half the teams have new coaches, transferred quarterbacks, or both!

Let's get it on!

I like that Poitier guy

These sumbitches responsible for my pixelated pictures should be punished by pounding their penises with ball peen hammers!

Wait until you look up shot peening

Wait until you look up shot peening

That would be an acceptable substitute imo.

Apparently the threats were enough. Pixelation may be totally gone now.

Maybe Georgia Tech isn't that improved after all...

So FSU is now 0-2 and still has to play:

Clemson, UNC, Notre Dame, Florida, Memphis, SMU, and Miami.

Why are they working in other rbs? Their top 2 guys have 4 carries ffs.

ahahahahahahaha number 69 you maroooooon

Damn what a sight with all those fans leaving

It's just not their night. Punt when you have nothing to lose.

They ran the play clock down to one before punting too. Not even FSU wants to see their offense on the field any more.

I'm confident FSU can beat Charleston Southern.

YEEESSSSSSS! Castellanos o60.5 rushing yards! 3/3 on props!

Can't remember the last time I saw a team so completely and thoroughly defeated

players, coaches, fans just want to pack it in. Total and absolute quit. #68 on the o-line just shoved the guy and said get me outta here I want to go home

How annoyed must GT be? They were a lock to be ranked, and now their win doesn't look so great

hope bc punches this in, just thoroughly enjoying this, **** FSU, am I rite my acc boiz ????

Florida State should fire the entire defensive staff and start over fresh tomorrow.

I know it's wrong but it would make me very happy if BC punched it in here. Y'know, for science.

Maybe Mizzou did schedule an OOC team with a pulse after all...

Yep. Gotta run it up in this spot.

C'mon man there;s no need to kneel so far back!

the worst part about this for FSU is that both of these humiliating losess happened when it was the only game on TV. Every CFB fan watched these. Even if they go reel off a bunch of wins now, it'll be in darkness

FSU has to be a dog to make a bowl game at this point

Is this where I go to lol FSU?

…Sorry Fossilkid.

FRIDAY

BYU 9/6/2024 0:00 7:00:00 PM 11
SMU 9/6/2024 0:00 7:00:00 PM -10.5

A nice little midstakes Big12/ACC clash. Both teams beat up on FCS competition last week after SMU was underwhelming against Nevada in week 1. SMU dodges Clemson and Miami and hosts FSU in a couple of weeks, so if they end up being as good as they were supposed to be, there's no reason they can't be an ACC dark horse.

Duke 9/6/2024 0:00 9:00:00 PM 2.5
Northwestern 9/6/2024 0:00 9:00:00 PM -2.5

NERD BOWL ALERT. Northwestern was projected to have a good defense and bad offense this year, and a week 1 win over MAC favorite Miami-OH fit the bill. I honestly don't know anything about Duke. ACC-B1G midweek though, let's do it!

SATURDAY

Army 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM 3.5
Florida Atlantic 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM -3.5

Troy 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM 18
Memphis 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM -17.5

Kansas State 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM -9.5
Tulane 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM 9.5

Tulane is a Mid Major contender, and this spot is the collective Mid Major Contenders' best chance at a marquee victory (Not even sure if Memphis beating an 0-3 FSU team would be considered marquee any more)

Arkansas 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM 7.5
Oklahoma State 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM -7.5

After the WVU loss, believe it or not, this is basically the B12's only shot at a major OOC victory. I've harped upon it before, but man that scheduling sucks. Ok State looked good in Week 1, dismantling the FCS champs

Texas 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM -7.5
Michigan 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM 7.5

The SEC went an uninspiring 2-4 against P4 competition in week 1, while the B1G went 2-1. Michigan didn't look great against Fresno though, leading only 16-10 with 6 minutes left in the game. It wasn't a fluke either, the score reflected the gameplay. I don't know much about Colorado State other than Colorado was projected at -7 @ CSU before the season started, but Texas beat the crap out of them. A rematch of two playoff teams from last year, should be good!

Pittsburgh 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM 2.5
Cincinnati 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM -2

I know it feels like an old Big East matchup, but this one is (checks notes) ACC - Big12. The Pitt / Kent State game was full of catastrophic turnovers and penalties and kick returns, but in the end Pitt put the hammer down. The B12 is strapped for any sort of chance to win P4 OOC games, so this is a lot bigger for them than it is for the ACC.

Akron 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM 23.5
Rutgers 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM -23

Bowling Green 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM 35
Penn State 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM -34.5

Georgia Tech 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM -3
Syracuse 9/7/2024 0:00 12:00:00 PM 3.5

The shine sure came off that GT > FSU win, eh? Yikes. Nonetheless, the jackets took care of business against one of the GSUs, while Kyle McCord and Syracuse beat an Ohio team at home in a game that was closer than it looked.

UNC Charlotte 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM 22.5
North Carolina 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM -21.5

Temple 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM 13.5
Navy 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM -13

California 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM 13.5
Auburn 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM -13

Why not Cal? Why not Auburn? Games like this are 10x more fun with the 12 team playoff. Both teams are drawing dead to title, but have faint playoff hopes that could use a marquee OOC win. A rematch of one of the ugliest games of all time (a 14-10 Auburn win last year that featured 7 turnovers and 500 total yards of offense). Cal certainly did not inspire confidence by being down to UC Davis at halftime, despite pulling away in the second half.

South Carolina 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM 10.5
Kentucky 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM -10

South Carolina was on the ropes vs Old Dominion. Kentucky should have a decent defense this year.

Iowa State 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM 2.5
Iowa 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM -2.5

FARMAGEDDON. Iowa looked like Iowa, leading Illinois State 6-0 at halftime. Iowa State should be sneaky good this year, and the conference desperately needs some P4 OOC wins.

Baylor 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM 14.5
Utah 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM -14

NOT a conference game. Horrible scheduling decision. Hey, let's give our teams EVEN MORE losses above the 9 conference games! Nice!

Eastern Michigan 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM 28
Washington 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM -27.5

Northern Illinois 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM 29.5
Notre Dame 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM -28.5

Massachusetts 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM 19.5
Toledo 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM -19.5

Jacksonville State 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM 28.5
Louisville 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM -28

Michigan State 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM 8.5
Maryland 9/7/2024 0:00 3:30:00 PM -7.5

I thought the Aidan Chiles era would get off to a better start. After watching DJU last night, I'm even more bullish on the one guy (Jonathan Smith) who was able to turn him into an incredibly productive QB. Maybe this is the game he breaks through, although Maryland looked pretty nice beating up on an overmatched UConn team in week 1.

UTSA 9/7/2024 0:00 4:00:00 PM 2.5
Texas State 9/7/2024 0:00 4:00:00 PM -1.5

This is a fun one! Texas State imported Incarnate Word's team/offense last season and was a pleasant surprise and is considered a Sun Belt contender. UTSA is an AAC contender along with Memphis and Tulane. A great measuring stick for the two conferences. These teams beat Kennesaw (who is now d1) and Lamar last week by close scores, although the boxes looked much better.

Kansas 9/7/2024 0:00 7:00:00 PM -5.5
Illinois 9/7/2024 0:00 7:00:00 PM 5.5

It's a P4 OOC game. Jalon Daniels is back, just hope he stays healthy

Virginia 9/7/2024 0:00 7:00:00 PM 2.5
Wake Forest 9/7/2024 0:00 7:00:00 PM -2

Tennessee 9/7/2024 0:00 7:30:00 PM -7.5
North Carolina State 9/7/2024 0:00 7:30:00 PM 7.5

I knew this was a neutral site game, and I don't know why but I just kind of assumed it was one of those that was being played in a NASCAR stadium, but I guess not. NC State went to the wire against Western Carolina, while Nico Iamaleava passed for 500069 yards against the school for the blind. The ACC and SEC play a million games this year (Miami > Florida, Georgia > Clemson and Vandy > VT in week 1. Cal/Auburn (lol) and this one in Week 2)

Colorado 9/7/2024 0:00 7:30:00 PM 7.5
Nebraska 9/7/2024 0:00 7:30:00 PM -7.5

Everybody shits on Colorado for going 4-8 last year, but don't forget that one of those 4 was a 22 point win against Nebraska. Also remember that Colorado played 8 (!!) 1-score games last year, and 1 so far this year. I don't have to tell Nebraska fans how they do in 1 score games. How will Dylan Raiola look in his first real test against what appeared to be a paper thin pass defense?

Western Michigan 9/7/2024 0:00 7:30:00 PM 38.5
Ohio State 9/7/2024 0:00 7:30:00 PM -38

Houston 9/7/2024 0:00 7:45:00 PM 29.5
Oklahoma 9/7/2024 0:00 7:45:00 PM -29.5

Appalachian State 9/7/2024 0:00 8:00:00 PM 17.5
Clemson 9/7/2024 0:00 8:00:00 PM -17.5

Clemson appears to have regressed back to the Clemson of old. If App State can recapture the magic of App State of Old, this will be a fun one. App is a Mid Major contender, as they are the Sun Belt favorite and get Liberty at home. If they can keep this one close and beat Liberty, they're right in the mix. If they WIN, hoooo boy.

Boise State 9/7/2024 0:00 10:00:00 PM 19.5
Oregon 9/7/2024 0:00 10:00:00 PM -18.5

Boise State beat the other GSU in a defense optional shootout, while Oregon struggled on the scoreboard (although again, not really in the box) against Idaho. If Boise wins, they'd lock up the MM spot conditional on winning the MWC. Hell, they'd even give themself some non MM spots (i.e. if they go 12-0 and lose in the conference title game, they might sneak in as a top-12 team and the MWC could get TWO bids. Especially if something stupid happens like a 4 loss team winning the ACC or B12)

Texas Tech 9/7/2024 0:00 10:00:00 PM -1
Washington State 9/7/2024 0:00 10:00:00 PM 1.5

Apparently Vegas does not care about FCS games? Both these teams topped 100 points against FCS opponents in week 1 (70-30 for Wazzu with 12 vs 5.5 ypp and 52-51 for Tech at 7.2 to 7.3 ypp) because the total opened at just 61.5? Should be points a plenty in Pullman.

Liberty 9/7/2024 0:00 10:15:00 PM -22
New Mexico State 9/7/2024 0:00 10:15:00 PM 22.5

Oregon State 9/7/2024 0:00 10:30:00 PM -4.5
San Diego State 9/7/2024 0:00 10:30:00 PM 4.5

Mississippi State 9/7/2024 0:00 10:30:00 PM 6.5
Arizona State 9/7/2024 0:00 10:30:00 PM -6.5

Should be an interesting one. ASU was projected as the worst team in the B12 but beat Wyoming by a thousand in week 1. MSU was projected as the second worst team in the SEC, but Vandy went out and beat Virginia Tech so it might be them now. The winner of this game probably gets to claim that their conference has the best-worst team? At least for now?

Utah State 9/7/2024 0:00 11:00:00 PM 28.5
USC 9/7/2024 0:00 11:00:00 PM -28

I thought “Farmageddon” (tm) was Iowa St vs Kansas St.

I remember hearing about it from a trivia question that it’s the oldest continuously played rivalry game in college football, played every year for over 100 years that has never been interrupted.

Not really understanding Colorado being over a TD dogs @ Nebraska.

Don't think Nebraska is established enough in the trenches to dominate Colorado at this point.
