Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD
Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...
These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.
To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.
Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
I don't think a legal right to protest exists in another country tbh, i think it's rather silly to claim it exists, i don't think i want foreigners being allowed to come here and protests against anything why the **** would i ever want that, nor i will never even think of doing the same in any other country, what the actual **** is it to go to protest in another country you are not a citizen of???
what country did she go to? who shot her?
oh ok I took it differently
DouleBrunsonFan and Betraisefold22, please take a timeout until 12:00 AM Eastern Time for violating the personal attacks rule and repeatedly characterizing a poster instead of their content.
Address POSTS, not posters.
I dont have video of her being shot. is that what you need to confirm?
theres video of doctors trying to save her and her bloodied head. you get your news from Jerusalem post so I dont think there is much to discuss around verifiable sources.
pretty dishonest to say “shot straight in the head, I have pictures and videos” and the pics and videos are not of her getting shot straight in the head.
But yeah depending on the circumstances this sounds bad. One thing I would say though is that when there are war crimes and other illegal acts committed, only one side has a process to bring the criminals to justice.
--Just a reminder that kidnapping and murdering anyone that criticizes the regime, on top of regular street torture/executions is normal behavior for Hamas. For whatever reason, everyone just accepts that this is how Palestinian society should operate, and only Israel's actions are a problem that needs addressing or course correction.
And these videos pop up every few days, despite the enormous risks of taking and disseminating said videos; and little benefit from doing so because pretty much no one in the world cares.
And yet most of allegations Victor makes against the IDF have no evidence but "eyewitness reports," and staged photos taken well after the fact; despite the reality such videos would be very well received by the global Ummah and progressive left and their respective propaganda machines.
Damn second tweet is pretty messed up. That guy getting shot up gets thrown in the same bucket as the one doing the shooting? I don’t support that type of rhetoric, it’s very dehumanizing.
who is this guy Ihab Fasfos? google brings up about nothing on him.
they know they can get away with it

Correct, the core issue here is the people not recognizing the toxicity of Jihad on western democracies. The pro-Palestinian people in here are overlooking that entirely, complaining about occupation and land disputes. You can listen to the well documented call of the Hamas kid calling his mom from the woman's phone he just killed and bragging about the fact he just killed 10 Jews w/ his bare hands, and his mother and father being so proud.
Not acknowledging that's a massive problem for Islam as a religion is the issue pro-Palestinian supporters are overlooking. Islam needs a day of reckoning w/ it's extremist, as it's not just areas where they believe they are being "occupied" that these kinds of events happen. Christianity went through a similar reckoning in the 14th century. You don't see current day Christians wanting to burn people alive at the stake anymore, but it was a core tenant back then. There's no current form of Zion extremist that are doing these same things today. Not that they don't exist though.
Meh... forget all this. I think maybe we all need a vacation to Blue beach resort in Gaza. It's an extremely liberal hotel on a beautiful stretch of beach in Gaza. You're not allowed to drink, dance, or stay out past 10. Only men are allowed to sing for entertainment, and women can't show their faces. But you can smoke... like I said, it's pretty liberal for Hamas.
It should be enough to see what the leaders of muslim majority countries do, which in the last 20+ years has been overwhelmingly to treat islamic radical terrorists very very very harshly in their own countries.
Christianity was different because the people burning others at the stake * were the elite *, the crusades were organized from the top, the religious wars (protestants vs catholics) were caused by conflicting elite interests.
For islam now (and in the last decades) violent religious-based zealotry happens overwhelmingly against the will of the ruling elite, which are either much more secular than their populations (Egypt, Pakistan), or fairly conservative religiously but hellbent on law&order and domestic security (Iran, KSA).
Ofc palestine is the exception with elites from Iran and Qatar (and maybe others) pushing that, because they don't pay the price of it (other than some $$)

It wasn't just elites though... people were burning "witches" in small towns. But I have no desire to go down that rabbit hole. I think my point is pretty salient.
Hard to prosecute criminals when you don't have a state. And the soldier who shot this woman will not have to pay.
I mean they don’t seem to hesitate to execute and detain people for opposing Hamas. How hard would it be to execute people who commit war crimes?
I’m not even sure we know what happened in this case. To be fair, I’m also not sure we know what happened with the 6 hostages, whether it was sanctioned by Hamas or it was a sign of them losing control over their frontline soldiers.
Giving hot takes about developing situations you need to be careful.

Not in europe, basically never. Yes in the USA and it happened later as well. But as you know, the craziest radicals actually fled to the USA because they weren't very well accepted in europe.
I think my point is just that how you fix it is different if it is bottom up vs if it is from the elite.
If it is from the elite like for us you just have to pray they make different decisions (after all, being the elites they call the shots).
If it is bottom up like i think it's the case for islam, you can crush it with power like muslim majority countries do domestically. Kill enough of them (of radical violent religious zealot that materially attempt to wage violence) for enough time that there aren't anymore around.

Yup... point taken.
The main problem is leadership "shuns" radical Islamist, but they also leverage and use them to achieve particular political aims. On the whole, moderate Islamist need to reject and squash the idea of Jihad to their people as a whole. Right now they are conveniently using US Imperialism as an excuse for radicalization, but like I said, it exists in other areas where this isn't an issue as well.
That's horrible. See how easy that is?
The IDF doesn't deny this though, and claim it was accidental, AND they've taken responsibility. If Hamas did this, you think the response would be the same?
the IDF hasnt said **** on it and surely wont punish those involved nor will they change their actions. anyone who actually thinks this is horrible does not support Israel.
noticed this right away. once you see it, you cant unsee it.
