NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

Just 8 days until Florida State plays Georgia Tech!

A lot happened while you were away:

Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC

The Pac-12 went out in a blaze of glory:
Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA are headed to the B1G
Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado are headed to the B12
Cal and Stanford along with SMU are somehow headed to the ACC
Poor old Wazzu and Oregon State are now aligned with the MWC in some sort of in-flux relationship

The conferences are huge now, and the schedules are wildly imbalanced. Florida might have the hardest schedule in the history of the sport, while Missouri's playing a sun-belt slate.

FSU and Clemson play each other, but then play ZERO common ACC opponents

Utah/Baylor and Arizona/Kansas State play non-conference games against conference opponents

LSU and USC play in Vegas!

Boise goes to Oregon, a team they've never lost to!

Texas at Michigan!

Alabama at Wisconsin!

Notre Dame at ATM!

Clemson vs Georgia!

And there are some incredibly juicy new conference matchups:

Texas @ ATM is back!

Texas vs Georgia

Oregon vs Ohio State

USC @ Michigan

USC vs Penn State

And then the bizarre:

UCLA @ Rutgers is now a conference game

Syracuse plays home and away against Cal and Stanford for some reason

Half the teams have new coaches, transferred quarterbacks, or both!

Let's get it on!

Let's put the "nothing" guy back in!

Let's put the "nothing" guy back in!

I want to see if the SMU starting QB can hit negative 100 yards of total offense, while the backup QB and defense manage to win the game anyway.

Nice block, ***hole!

these QBs are a combined 9-23 late 2nd qtr on passing. Horrific.

otoh, SMU has a sweet FG kicker. NFL coaches must be drooling over a "push button for 3 pts." guy like this

......and nice one SMU punt return blocker guy lol

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME DUKE AT NORTHWESTERN

FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL! ON FS1!

some of you sons of smu brazilionaire boosters might want to expand your investment strategy and consider tithing as a viable option

bwahaha BYU QB wtf was that

gonna have to move over to duke-nw, these teams are awful

Pretty sure BYU can fire their coach for *gambling* like that.

Clearly a fumble
...it's always great watching morons figure something out

We might lose to Auburn by 30 and then go win the acc anyway

lol Duke northwestern

14 drives 62 plays

Incredible

IU may only get two wins this season, but goddamn they were something.

All of that and more, including a fumble bunny

I hear people love the view from this temp lakeside field. Why are they playing at night?

I'm surprised there's only one punt in that bunny sequence.

...just checked and we're now at 23 possessions, 12 punts, and 104 plays. Not sure if that means it's getting better or worse.

Aaaaand that's why you don't get ultra-conservative and play for the tie.

Obviously down

Trying to fall asleep and I just had an epiphany. My hot take that Texas is gonna crush Michigan is dead wrong. Michigan is gonna win tomorrow and to understand why we have to go back to Michigan's historic Rose Bowl victory over Alabama.

Michigan's offensive gameplan vs Bama is considered by many as the greatest gameplan in Michigan history. All the motions and shifts had Bama confused all day. Players were schemed open constantly. For those who care to read about this:

https://mgoblog.com/content/upon-further...

But but Michigan only scored 20 points in regulation?! Yea well that's cuz Bama's defense was really good and ****ed with our execution a ton in that game but the Xs and Os were constantly in out favor.

Ok why am I bringing this up? Well the braintrust behind that brilliant gameplan, Sherrone Moore and Kirk Campbell, are still here. They had a month to prepare for Bama and they dialed up a masterpiece vs an NFL defense. They've had 8 months to prepare for Texas.

Everyone's complaining about how bad Michigan's offense looked vs Fresno but that mightve been the most vanilla gameplan in Michigan history. I think we ran only 1 play-action play, nothing tricky, mostly base runs and short passes. The coaching staff was so determined to put nothing on film for Texas we didn't even go for 2 in one of the most obvious spots to go for 2, up 12 midway through the 4th.

Now the offensive line had a few hiccups, but nothing that wasn't explainable/correctable game 1 stuff. It's a new starting group but they're all talented veteran guys. They will be fine. Our QB and WRs did not look that great but that could easily be due to our super vanilla gameplan. And when you look back at that game Davis Warren really only had one bad pass. Dude was pretty much on the money all day.

Again, with 8 months to prepare for Texas we should expect this staff to have another masterful offensive gameplan in place and our defense and special teams are the best in the country or damn near close to it.

Bottom line: The Michigan-Fresno State game is a bogus data point. Michigan went out of their way to fool everyone into thinking they're Iowa but the truth is they're still Michigan, the greatest program in the history of this hallowed sport, the defending national champions! And being at home with the talent and coaching we have, that should be enough to beat Texas.

Michigan 24 Texas 20.

Forgot that having a QB is kinda important. Sigh

ILP is right as always.

Michigan finally deploys their weapons, has a competent offensive game plan, and adds a Defensive TD for good measure.

Michigan 31
Texas 17

God the big ten is so annoying with early game times. We get it you wake up early to peel corn or whatever. Let normal in the rest of the country have normal hours.
