Ideas to fix mental game issue

For a while now I've had a mental game issue where I never feel like playing when i'm winning. I start playing, win betw

in the sense that I spent a lot of time accruing that money playing and everything I lose I will have to make back, yeah I do in that sense.

If it does then you either don't accept or understand how the game works, or you're playing at too high of a stake. Sounds like the first one. You're going to lose almost half of the sessions that you play even if you're good, and you can't control when you win or lose. You don't get to pick your cards and the runouts.

I can see why you might think that, but I'm fully conscious of how variance works in poker. It's an issue of my emotional state outside the game being affected by recent results in the game. Be that run bad or even worse, a decision I made that I'm not happy with. If I've been running well/winning my emotional state is positive, so I want to keep it that way by quitting while that's still the case.

dunno i think the sports psychology and mental aspect of poker is fascinating and also entirely disregarded by most people (similar to how studying theory / math was ~15 yrs ago). it seems like a combination of lack of confidence / self belief to me. Am maybe projecting bc i've struggled with this when changing games / occasionally player pools, but I think most strong winning

Oh yeah I wasn't disagreeing with you, only the part where you said if I had a winning graph over a million hands etc, cos I did have that and it didn't help. But yeah if I was 110% confident in every spot that'd probably help.

would you want to quit at the smaller stakes? probably its just the higher ones where the uncertainty is highest if i had to guess (you could argue its the money but you're still playing for relatively little money at the upper bound of the stakes you mentioned)

Well I'm grinding up a roll again from 2nl and I've leveled up to 5nl and already it started happening again. I don't remember having much of this on previous runs until i got to 25/50nl but those were the days when I didn't really understand variance in poker, or at least had not experienced how bad it could be it first hand.

Just in case any of you guys are interested I decided to start my own PG&C thread to help keep me motivated and share my progress 😀
