NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

Just 8 days until Florida State plays Georgia Tech!

A lot happened while you were away:

Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC

The Pac-12 went out in a blaze of glory:
Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA are headed to the B1G
Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado are headed to the B12
Cal and Stanford along with SMU are somehow headed to the ACC
Poor old Wazzu and Oregon State are now aligned with the MWC in some sort of in-flux relationship

The conferences are huge now, and the schedules are wildly imbalanced. Florida might have the hardest schedule in the history of the sport, while Missouri's playing a sun-belt slate.

FSU and Clemson play each other, but then play ZERO common ACC opponents

Utah/Baylor and Arizona/Kansas State play non-conference games against conference opponents

LSU and USC play in Vegas!

Boise goes to Oregon, a team they've never lost to!

Texas at Michigan!

Alabama at Wisconsin!

Notre Dame at ATM!

Clemson vs Georgia!

And there are some incredibly juicy new conference matchups:

Texas @ ATM is back!

Texas vs Georgia

Oregon vs Ohio State

USC @ Michigan

USC vs Penn State

And then the bizarre:

UCLA @ Rutgers is now a conference game

Syracuse plays home and away against Cal and Stanford for some reason

Half the teams have new coaches, transferred quarterbacks, or both!

Let's get it on!

Teams can go 10-2 then lose the conference championship

If anyone can explain the Sam Houston love, I'd like to hear it. I've watched both their game tapes and my two memorable notes are "Rice so bad they make Sam Houston look good" and "Sam Houston has no business being on the same field as UCF" and I stand by that thorough analysis.

Circa opened Hawaii @ SH as a pickem which I already thought was funny, but it's approaching SH -6 now and the only explanation I can find is that Rice was so impressive against a bottom-10 FCS team last weak that 9 points needed to be added to their power rank (lookin' at you, SP+) and by extension the misspelled cats. Or possibly, "Sure UCF easily rushed 57 times for about 7 yards per carry...but Hawaii mostly throws." which may have just failed to notice UCF runs "RPO"s or something and that allowing 12/15 passing at 11 per also isn't a good sign?

I mean sure, I bought a Hawaii shirt, and have tended to get overly optimistic about such teams in the past, but I see no way that could possibly be affecting my opinion in the present!

Side note; Eastern Carolina's quarterback, Jake Garcia formerly of Miami, has thrown 7 interceptions so far this year; 3 against an FCS, and 4 against ODU (3 of them were so easy he may as well have just handed the ball to them and offered to block). Do you think he can hit five this week and at what point, exactly, do we get to see and/or hear from the backup? Asking for a friend who bet on ECU before he saw that stat (I mean I just assumed at least one of those would've been by the backup)...

2PAC executing a reverse meger, adding Boise, Colorado St, Fresno and SDSU to get to 6. Need to add 2 more to get to 8 for the conf minimum.

Seems unlikely they'll be able to entice Cal/Stanford to join.

Not sure why they wouldn't just take 6 from the MWC (SJSU and UNLV?) not sure what targets they might have in other conferences

Liberty and Memphis are on the other side of the country (not that that seems to matter any more)

Tulane? A texas school like UNT or UTSA? Maybe they just want SJSU and UNLV to desperately join at a lower % rev share

6-pac chock full of state schools
hope they stay exclusive

Pac 12 should bring in fsu and Clemson for the lulz

this would be so stupidly amazing

FSU and Clempson would've already been gone if they were able to

coach prime needs to get lessons from kenny f**king dillingham on how to portal.

both are in their 2nd year and the BUFFS have looked awful at best against so-so competition with a turned over roster.

otoh, ASU has played similar competition and is looking like men vs. boys in 2+ games so far with a turned over roster. and they lost to the BUFFS and had a worse record in 2023. so no excuse for the BUFFS to look this bad other than incompetence at the highest levels.

Is the ASU defense playing with 10 guys? what's going on here? mccloud just completed like 8 straight passes for 10+ yards to receivers in the middle of the field without a single defender within 5 yards of them

Bobcats copying the ASU pass defense strategy I see

I think the Wildcats aren't used to blitzing but aren't getting any pressure without it tonight.

It's so weird constantly trying to remember what you thought about some quarterback last year on some other team.

Jesus Christ announcers, obviously not targeting.

Despite really wanting the Sun Devils to blow them out, I must say this is an exhilarating game.

OG party school vs the up and coming party school. I like it.

Big-12 is just gonna be an absolute bloodbath
