What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.
Brag: Shot 80 today on my home course (par 72) - I'm a 12 handicap so this is a very good number for me.
Beat: Had a [censored] quadruple bogey on the easiest hole on the course. Stupid sand features.
Variance: Lost $3 thanks to the team game.
Mr. Wolfbox,
I made a comment earlier tonight that I guess went out over the air that I am deeply ashamed of. If I have hurt anyone out there, I can't tell you how much I say from the bottom of my heart I'm so very, very sorry. I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith, as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a home run. And so that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame. I don't know if I'm going to be putting on this headset again. I don't know if it's going to be for the Reds. I don't know if it's going to be for my bosses at Fox.
Last night of the roll up tonight thought as its the last one I'd better show up, Didn't really plan on playing but in the end I did. I managed to walk and play with my Achilles hurting at all still have a bit of a limp and it isn't easy getting around but getting there slowly but surely.
Last 4/5 holes I was ripping it with my irons. Like we had a few back flags tonight so I clubbed down from the actual number expecting me to be like 5 yards short, I either flew the green or landed pin high. Shame I can't get the same sort of strike with my driver 😃
It's club champs tomorrow I won't be taking part in it. They changed the format slightly and made it over 2 days with a cut after the 1st day. Not a huge fan of that our tradition has always been 36 holes in a day. Should be good though.
Only thing is and I want to know what you guys takes are on it, Guy who plays comps at his golf club he works at but is a member at ours as well jumped in late and signed up to play. The only thing is this, this will be his 1st competition he's played down at our club and he's a bit better than everyone else. It's fully expected that he will win which is a bit crap imo.

Don't worry about it, I laughed when I read it. Neither my golf game nor my peehs game are worth taking too seriously.
CC seemingly missed the sarcasm in my post that stirred all this up
glad he did because the results are fun
41-43-84. 1 birdie, 1 double bogey. 68.6/125/5,875 yards
Average ball striking, poor short game, putting was an adventure. Lots of slope and about the fastest greens I've played all season.
5th round in last 5 weeks. (Also 5th round in last 12 years.)
Walked for the first time this year and used my new ClicGear4.0 and loved it. Never played this course before. 69/121 Par 71 (36/35) just over 6,000 yards. Can't get into tons of trouble here.
97 (49/48) 2 pars, 2 birdies, 5 bogeys, 4 doubles and 5 bed-shitters. Hit driver very well and my irons were ok. Way better than last time, when I made several Xs. (Didn't even lose a ball today.) Still awful around the greens (wasted 3-4 chips) and with the putter (21/21 for 42 putts total. A few of those "putts" were from the fringe. If I'm grabbing a putter I count it as a putt.) Nice to break 100, but I'll feel better about it if I do it on a tougher course. Lots of room to improve via the short game, so that's encouraging. Been spending most of my time working on my swing, not scoring.
Hit driver and then 5-iron into a shorter (472 yards) par 5 and had an eagle putt, which was fun. (Left the birdie putt at like 5 feet, which wasn't fun, but I made it.) Went birdie, par, birdie for a stretch on the front, but then promptly made triple to slap me back into reality. Totally hooked. Can't wait to go practice.
39-43-82. (Par 35-36-71). 1 birdie, 1 double bogey. 69.2/120/6,152 yards.
Ball striking was good, probably B+. Short game was erratic but more mediocre than anything else - too many bogeys when I was just off the green in regulation.
52/52 with only 37 whacks this time at the same course. A few trips to the putting green has definitely helped. Unfortunately I hit it terribly with all the other clubs. A few good shots, but not nearly enough. The father and 2 sons I was paired with watched me drill the first drive, hit the green and make par. (1 of only 3 pars on the day). At that point they didn't quite understand why I referred to myself as the "best awful golfer in the world". They knew by the time it was all over.
Th
89(45/44) (Par 72, 70.7/133 6400 yards) today with 39 putts....pleased with the score, but could have been better.....1 birdie....5 pars.....2 doubles & 2 dumbass triples......5 3-whacks, but much better with the putter actually after practicing several times this past week.....swing is better but still inconsistent......can't wait to play again.
Leave the nitro next time
39-39-78. 2 birdies, no double bogeys. 68.6/125/5,875 yards.
Did a really good job of avoiding large numbers. Every aspect was decent, even good most of the time.
Managed to limp around today. Not in any pain now just have a limp. A little achy by the time I'm done though but goes away pretty quickly.
Since I last played my home course they have seem to have cut the greens super tight now and for a course that has been know for being notoriously slow on the greens they are pretty swift now. They seem to have firmed up as well, I personally think its great move, Greens roll so much better when its like this rather than slow and soft.
I played as expected really. Nothing outstanding. I recently sold my range finder so I had no yardage device to go by so was going by feel mostly. With my irons my yardage has increased a bit. One shot that was quite funny, I had around 140ish slight into the breeze in the fairway. Knowing it was pretty bouncy I thought I'd hit PW which normally goes 130ish I think. Slightly pulled great strike and its probably flew about 155 and gone into a back bush. It felt amazing but not so as I lost the ball 😃 ... Back before I was injured I remember my really good strikes always wanted to go left.
Good to be out there again. Going to try and get to a physio soon been so busy ever since I got back from my trip. Mother went into hospital then come out and was fine than had massive pains in her back so been looking after her. Then my dog has picked up some kind of skin infection so he has been to the vet numerous times, I'll get to my health soon.
MGA event 9 holes best ball, 9 holes Chapman.
Even on the best ball with one birdie and one bogey.
Chapman shot +1 with 3 birdies, 1 bogey, and 1 triple.
The triple was a washed out greenside bunker with water in half of it. Probably should have just called it unplayable and dropped it outside of it. Took us 3 shots to get it out.
39 and 41 putts
honest question, do you practice putting?
easy to set up something on the living room floor and train path and tempo
just gotta want to spend the time

Not enough, but I do (I think I have a 43-putter in there somewhere)......I'm actually better than I was 6 weeks ago when I dusted off the clubs for the first time since (I think) BlackFriday when I walked off the course on #10 after getting a text from a buddy saying the FBI seized PokerStars.
may i suggest at least doubling the effort? 😃
Been putting nightly on the indoor/outdoor porch carpet. No idea how that will translate. A friend is getting me onto a country club course today that I've never played before. Strained something in my elbow (Google tells me it's tennis elbow) at the range Thursday night taking a massive divot on a terrible swing. Haven't tried to swing a club since. Been icing and rubbing and taking ibuprofen. We'll see how it goes.
my putting is better when i do these things:
long putts pre round. as long as the practice green allows if nobody else is using it.
a low follow through seems to give me the best roll, sometimes the follow through ends with the putter head on the ground slightly ahead of my leading left foot. this is a peculiarity, but i suppose putting is peculiar. i think it has to do with my putting stroke being all arms no shoulder turn.
keep my head down excessively long. i listen for putts less than ~8 ft.
things i want to incorporate: pacing the length of putts, and viewing the line from below. this instead of just walking up trying to estimate length and line it up from behind the ball.

52/50 on a par 71. Parred the first 2 holes, +31 the rest of the way. Swung the putter 45 times, although 3-5 of those were whacking through a decent patch of fringe. Porch practice did not translate. A few bad chips added many strokes. A bad chip on the par 3 4th from just off the back of the green skulled into a super deep frontside bunker and turned into a 9.
obv putting was not good. Really long putts are impossible for me right now. Great course. First time I played with people I knew. Can't wait to play again, although the arm is sore.
Went 1-1-3 in a member/guest in NC this past weekend. We were tied for first with two additional teams a half point back. We lost one down and fell to t3.
My partner has an excuse that his wife booked vacation for a week and a half before the event and he arrived back home the day before on a redeye flight. That being said I would guess he helped around 10 holes all weekend. At least a dozen holes he was in his pocket after his tee shot went OB.
We were the last group in the first flight. We played 3 opponents with a + handicap. I received either 1 or 2 shots each match, partner received 4-5 each match.
Started a day early because of possible hurricane effects. On the 3rd hole of the first match the skies opened up and it rained the rest of the day. Won first match one up and tied the second. Playing in light to heavy rain I ended up shooting +1.
Tied the 3rd match. Ended up shooting 39 with no birdies and 1 double.
4th match we tied as well, shot 36.
5th match and 3rd of the day I fell apart and shot 40. It was a horrible display of golf by all. We were tied with 2 holes to go. 18 is a 532y par 5. Partner is out of hole. I hit it just over the slope on in the green and have a lightning quick 40 footer for birdie. First opponent catches the back slope and hits it to 1.5 feet. Second opponent does the same thing but lips out for eagle. We lose the hole. Last hole is a 390ish par 4. All are in good shape except for me where I toed a 4 iron off of the tee leaving me 216y. Proceed to hit 3 hybrid to 7 feet. Lip out the birdie putt and we lose 1 down.
Overall pretty happy with how I played. Was sitting around during the hurricane day and realized I hit 15 greens and 2 fringes the first day, and zero shots out of the rough.
Club championship is this weekend. Course is way too long for me but I'm playing anyways. Goal is to put two rounds together in the 70s.
Golf is stupid. I go out for Tuesday night and play 3 holes to get warmed up. First hole is #1 handicap. I birdie it. Striking the ball well, feeling good. Fast forward to league and I catch a case of the shanks. End up shooting a 54 and losing my match 4 and 3.
Finally broke 100! 97, 1 par, 9 bogies. Small town course, next county over.
congratulatoins you tremendous slouch
better than before is almost always very good
Myrtle Beach trip, was a good time despite being filled with bad golf.
Saturday: 42 (par 36), warmup nine at Asheboro Municipal in Asheboro, NC. Course was shaggy and wet, unsurprisingly they hadn't been able to cut the greens for a couple days due to the hurricane.
Sunday: 45-43-88 at TPC Myrtle Beach. 2 birdies, 6 double bogeys. 70.9/143 (!!) / 6,193 yards
Birdied the first hole. It did not establish a precedent. Cart path only, hot and 99% humidity, I was completely drained.
Monday: 45-44-89 at Rivers Edge. No birdies, 3 double bogeys, 1 triple bogey.
70.8/137/ 6,239 yards.
Tuesday: 41-43-84 at Tidewater. No birdies, 3 double bogeys. 70.6/135/ 6,323 yards.
I was able to keep my own card the first two days, but kept official cards that got turned in the rest of the week. At least I got a photo of this one.
Wednesday: 50-41-91 at Thistle. 71.0/135/ 6,355 yards.
Thursday: 84 (I think) at Arrowhead. 69.5/127/ 6,179 yards.
Friday: 43-42-85 at Kings North. 69.1/128/ 6,024 yards.
Saturday: 40-47-87 at Pawley's Plantation. 70.6/133/ 6,231 yards
The front nine on Saturday was the only time all week where I really felt like I played well. I screwed up the back, including an all time epic FAIL on the 17th -- it's a 140 yard par 3, all carry over the tidal marsh. I hit a good tee ball, landed it on the green, rolled back and off into the marsh. Dropped, putted it up the slope toward the flag ... uh oh, not hard enough. Back down the slope, off the green and into the marsh. It's not that big of a hill! Dropped and made triple.
I was pretty frustrated with my lack of distance. Too many holes I could not reach in regulation, lots of 400+ yard par 4s. I think I hit driver on four par 3s at Thistle. I'm playing the tees I'm assigned as part of the group, but frankly it would have been more fun playing up a set even if I get a couple fewer shots.
The last day was the only day where I felt I could really read the greens.
All in all it was a good time and I pretty much broke even in the games. Only had about six birdies for the week so it wasn't due to winning a bunch of skins.
