Las Vegas Casual Dining Thread
We have the fine dining thread, but everyone needs some good casual places to eat, either on the strip or local. I'm finding that my list of go-to casual places is lacking.

Good value, taste is decent. I'd stick with the cold lobster and avoid the fried ones as you can't really taste the seafood anymore. Probably something I might crave 1-2x a year but I don't think it's good enough for a regular visit.
Mal, you been to Lamaii recently?
just curious if it still holds up to the past rep
interesting...thanks for the reply
we were there with a group this past feb and it felt like the place was being run by a bunch of youngsters
food wasn't bad by any means but not quite up to the same level as chada back in the day
Agree the service can be hit or miss but the food is a+ and even on miss nights I’d be happy taking friends, a date, or a business mtg
I also miss chada tho
oh haii, or otherwise known as acknowledging your reference in a different way
men go catfishing restaurant menus looking for value meals all the time
homer simpson made that obvious when he threw a soda across the springfield kwik-e-mart counter

Another epic dinner at Toca Madera. First dish in pics is a ahi tuna salad that’s not on the menu, they give us these little unique dishes for free since we’re there pretty often, it’s just whatever the chef comes up with. Have had prob 5-6 different ones they’ve let us try and all of them have been amazing, hopefully they will add them to the full menu.
Tried the center cut wagyu ribeye this time ($98), steak was incredible and I was surprised that the pickled red onions went really well with it. A5 wagyu tacos are worth the $34, the real wasabi they put in them is key. They changed up their regular steak tacos and the new ones are even better than the old version. Think around $18 for those. Best hamachi and caesar anywhere. Love me some Toca.
$266 with a couple cocktails plus tip. InKind app promos covered about half that.
yum
that isn't casual dining
I didn't see a white tablecloth so I guess casual it is!
But, yeah, I had the same initial reaction.

I mean it’s basically a nightclub inside. Does casual dining refer to it being cheap or a casual environment? Is it fine dining if you order the steak but casual dining if you order the tacos? Idk
FIIK. Some combo of setting, food and price determines fine vs casual, I guess. Need 2 to qualify? Food and price above hit the mark. Setting? Not so much.
Not trying to argue, mostly just funnin'. 100% would eat there based on this review/pics.
i've been to toca, it swerves the line
Yeah I mean you could easily go to Toca and eat some tacos for $18 or an appetizer and the Caesar for $20 and it would still be a great meal, the Caesar is the best salad anywhere IMO and it’s huge. You can also order the $325 tomahawk, so they have the bases pretty well covered on pricing it just depends what you want.
if toca Madera is casual where do I put my flower child or zupas reviews ?
Really splitting hairs here guys. It’s expensive but sheesh wj posts good pictures and are there really a bunch of people reading one thread and not the other? If anything maybe fine dining should be upset it’s here but like are people complaining about a possibly superfluous review here? Lol, still post toca and flower child and tacotarian and Chicago joes and the pizza place by publicus and cleaver I don’t think is fine dining so whatever. Just keep bojangles coupons in the FF thread and we will be fine, I promise!
I was joking.. loved the review..

I realize it's splitting hairs, but Vegas is generally a casual town even for fine dining, so what is the criteria? I don't want to say that price is the divider, but it's certainly a factor.
I don't think anyone is criticizing wj for posting. His contributions, both with reviews and pics, have been beneficial to this forum. I agree that you can go to toca or a lot of other places for decently priced appetizers or small bites, but I think posting a $100 steak is probably over the line for what people consider casual dining. Yes, I know it's LV and you can't walk a few hundred feet on the strip without finding a place with a $100 steak.
If we are going by true fine dining, then what percentage of restaurants in Vegas hit that mark? The ratio of posts in casual to fine would be ridiculous. I'd suggest maybe "high end" instead of "fine", but I also don't want to make this complicated.
Yeah all I meant to say was “fine” is in the eye of the beholder seems like an ok criteria. Idk I just felt like there was a lot of — not hate but something — being spit so we are losing focus on the important things like where I should go for dinner before Dave Attell at town square tonight that isn’t bootleggers because my wife hates that place.

IMO, and I very well could be wrong, but I understand that people looking for a decently priced and casual atmosphere place to eat immediately think that toca is not that (they do have happy hour and decently priced dishes). Whereas I think you know what you're getting in the fine dining thread.
I follow both, so I don't care, but I understand the feeling if people follow one or the other.
And fwiw, I am going to hit up toca next time directly because of wj's reviews/pics.
