Flopped trips stop n' go vs maniac
1/3 NLHE 9 handed, wanted to get a line check or idea of how you play this. Table was tight and unfriendly and then maniac sat down and the ecosystem of our fish tank has changed dramatically. He's 3-betting A8o for weird sizing, cold calling 3-bets from nutted OMCs and stacking off post with any pair+draw, backdoor stuff, etc.
HH: fish limps, Maniac to 25, H calls in CO IP, fish calls. H has QJcc. 600$ eff. Flop Ks 9s 7s. Fish donks 69$ into 75, Maniac jams 600$ I fold, fish calls his last 100$. Fish has 69o no spade, Maniac has 8s5c. Runout is 9x As and Maniac wins with flush.
--- H has 650$, Maniac has 600$, Fish has 120$ ---
One fish (not from HH but equally bad) limps 3$ off 120$ stack in MP, Maniac opens CO to 15, H sees A♦ T♦ and goes 65 from SB, fish starts talking on and on about how tough a spot this is and finally calls off half his stack for 65$, Maniac calls. 3-ways OOP.
Flop 195 - T♣ T♠ 6♥
H checks, Fish checks, Maniac bets 35, H thinks and just calls, Fish calls.
Turn 300 - 4♦
H leads 110...

I might just flat preflop cuz I'm kinda cool inviting in fish. And meanwhile I don't want to hugely bloat a pot where we'll often be facing decisions for stacks postflop OOP with A high versus this guy.
I probably lean to a very small cbet, although don't hate the tarping check/call either.
Turn is kinda why I think cbetting might be better cuz our line looks so strong. Whereas a couple of small bets might look weaker / invite a move.

I would let the maniac maniac and just check turn, check river as played. I think I would rather bet $50 on the flop and check the turn to let the maniac hang himself.
Terrible bet. You're telling the maniac that you a 10. If you insist on leading out, you want to do it in a way that screams weakness. You're letting him off of the took.
To the Maniac....
You bet pot - Ohhh he's got a 10
You get $25 - Ohh, he's weak and doens't wnat to get repraisd or maybe he's got a 10
You check - He's got AK, AQ or weak overpair and thinks I have a 10.
Check let him bet. Reraise on the river.
i dont think you should bet into a dry side pot vs him lol (guy in the middle has 30 left right?)
I would cbet flop, like ~60-70 , and move from there.
As played, I'd rather be consistent with the passve line taken otf and c/c turn as well.
Preflop is fine. I'm happy to mix in a few calls here too.
Flop: we have lots of medium-strength vulnerable pairs (88-99,JJ, QQ) that benefit from a decent-sized flop bet here.
I agree with others above that the preferred line is bet flop and check turn. Now that we checked flop, agree with Niemand that x turn is more logical line. We are blocking maniac's value, so let him bluff.
Yeah, I’ve also found that 3-betting hands like ATs with the intention of just scooping a small pot is fine. But when the game is wild, it’s better to just call preflop, especially 200bb+ deep.
AP, both betting 1/3 pot or checking the flop is fine, but checking is probably better. If we’re checking AA-KK against a maniac here, then we should also check ATs
The turn is a check.
Is this a mainiac who will constantly raise post flop, or one that always bets when checked to.
Also how much of a mainiac is he if he's calling rather than raising your 3b?
That I think helps us work out check or bet.
Depending on how he responds to 3bets pre (most maniacs aren't folding if that was your goal, or they might even raise) we're gonna be left OOP with ace high otf vs a maniac. Calling pre is probably better.
As played idk why we're checking the flop, now he's betting very small I'd rather set the price myself and try to build a pot and maybe he'll try and bluff to represent Tx.
The turn donk bet seems to indicate we have Tx giving him a chance to get away.
Just flat call pre. Keep the fish in the hand. Disguise our hand strength. Let the maniac keep the betting lead for now. Check in flow to him on every flop. Let him hang himself.
As played pre, think we can c-bet the flop small, but prefer to just check first to act. See if fish or maniac want to try and rep our hand. We can always make a delayed c-bet on the turn if the flop checks through.
Not sure why we'd donk this turn card. Like, what story are you trying to tell here, on such a brick? Would we 3B pre, call flop, and donk 1/3 pot on turn with something like 75s? Are we repping 44?
Just check and see what happens. If turn checks through, we can lead river, with tons of stabby bluffs in our range. When we donk here, it'll be really hard to get two streets of value from too many worse hands.
I think this is where we don't necessarily have a common definition of mainiac.
For me it's playing 50% plus of hands, always raising when entering pot, and raising 3bets not calling them.
Post constantly betting and raising and barely ever checking or calling.
Bottom line it's not just a very laggy player, but a very extreme way of playing.
And I rarely see them.
