I started this as a thread where 2+2 members could share advice on online dating. I'm 25 years old, and have had trouble finding a GF in person, so I've decided to try the online route.
I admittedly have no game when it comes to girls, as I'm a natural shy person, so I'll mostly be on the receiving end of the knowledge. As I improve, I'll share the wealth. :-)
From poker I've learned how helpful it is to have an advisor to give you advice and encouragement, and sympathize with you when you fail.
For starters, what are the best sites out there for free, and what sites are worth laying the money down for a subscription ? I'm on POF and OKcupid.
Probably not go for the classic woman strategy of ‘I’m actually 40 but it won’t let me change it’ as if people are supposed to believe you made an mistake and are actively trying to change it

I'm having trouble imagining a scenario in which a relationshiip gets to the point where you feel it's important to be honest about things like your age, and then coming up with a "simple and easy" way to admit that you've been lying the whole time.

I signed up 3 years older than I am to squeeze in under 50 and get the women who might have included 49 as top age range
I told the women either while messaging or when we first met and it never seemed to matter. Its part of the game along with non current photos.
I reckon 1st date is the go - if it’s going well then it’ll still go well and I think it’s excusable at that point.
Having said that I closed my account a few months ago and if/when I create a new one I’ll be honest.

That said there is clearly a shitton of idiot guys who take advantage out in places like Thailand and Colombia, and those guys absolutely need calling out too.
What does "take advantage" actually mean in this context though?
Is there a framework to talk about this stuff other than consent?

It means a subset of guys know they’re going to a place where women are generally more socially conservative, but get drunk with the power of their newfound attractiveness, bang as many girls as they can, mistreat and disrespect them, and also give westerners a bad image
I’m not saying it wouldn’t be hard to adapt to a new dating scene out there for a guy though. I’m going to Bangkok for two weeks next year with a view to potentially spending more time there in future. I’ll probably be swiping and going on a couple of dates out there, but I’ll be making it clear upfront I’m only there for two weeks and I won’t be able to commit to anything.
If I lived there on a more permanent basis, I’d have to modify how I act on the apps for sure. I’ve had a bunch of women on the go where I’ve got to like 3, 4, 5 dates and they pretty much know we’re not exclusive. As I understand out there, a lot of women expect exclusivity fairly early so it’ll either require being very honest from the outset or literally just dating one girl at a time
And that’s not only to be a decent person in a new environment but also to not get a bad name in a local community where apparently women can easily know each other more so than equivalent sized cities in the west

I love telling the story about how I was considering an extended trip to Thailand and was talking to the seeming community glue guy from the thread here for a while before eventually deciding not to go then a few months later his account was nuked and we found out he was going to Thai prison for being a serial bar girl killer

Yah, back in the day the SEA crowd seemed so weird that it made me put off visiting the region until I was almost 40 and married, but I'm glad I finally did. There's plenty to do in Thailand and the bar girl scene is only like 5% of it if you expand your horizons. That being said, my wife and I enjoy grabbing a seat at a bar overlooking Nana Street and watching the negotiations going on between old dudes and girls 50 years their junior.
