NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA
Just 8 days until Florida State plays Georgia Tech!
A lot happened while you were away:
Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC
The Pac-12 went out in a blaze of glory:
Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA are headed to the B1G
Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado are headed to the B12
Cal and Stanford along with SMU are somehow headed to the ACC
Poor old Wazzu and Oregon State are now aligned with the MWC in some sort of in-flux relationship
The conferences are huge now, and the schedules are wildly imbalanced. Florida might have the hardest schedule in the history of the sport, while Missouri's playing a sun-belt slate.
FSU and Clemson play each other, but then play ZERO common ACC opponents
Utah/Baylor and Arizona/Kansas State play non-conference games against conference opponents
LSU and USC play in Vegas!
Boise goes to Oregon, a team they've never lost to!
Texas at Michigan!
Alabama at Wisconsin!
Notre Dame at ATM!
Clemson vs Georgia!
And there are some incredibly juicy new conference matchups:
Texas @ ATM is back!
Texas vs Georgia
Oregon vs Ohio State
USC @ Michigan
USC vs Penn State
And then the bizarre:
UCLA @ Rutgers is now a conference game
Syracuse plays home and away against Cal and Stanford for some reason
Half the teams have new coaches, transferred quarterbacks, or both!
Let's get it on!
What a ridiculous situation.
A starting transfer senior qb for only $100k? WTF?
I assumed that any NIL agreement would be in a written a contract, but maybe it's an IOU.
If it's in a written contract, seems pretty easy to prove/resolve. If not, lolSluka and his family.
Verbal, lol.
We will definitely pay you buddy, just give us til after the season to deliver.
**** the UNLV boosters and coaches. Sluka deserves the bag he was promised and they just wasted a year of his life.
Line move seems like an exaggeration to me, fired a bunch more on UNLV pk
Finally, Texas gets to play in the big bad SEC. First game and we're 35 point favorites.
I thought this league was tough top to bottom? After 12 years of being told by aggy that it's impossibly tough their boards have multiple threads on how easy our schedule is
DT T'vondre Sweat now with the Titans don't give ****
How our fanbase is currently feeling
We'll probably drop a game along the way, but let's ****ing go!
of the 2-6 teams in the sec Texas plays one total, and it's at home. y'all got lucky af
They grouped the teams by record over the last few years and tried to make it even by having each team play the same number of teams from each group. Aggy and Florida were near the top, not our fault they suck now.
Hopefully they go to 9 game conference schedule and we get to play every team home and away over a 4 year period. None of this aggy-Georgia play once in 12 year ****.
If we don't go to 9 games we'll probably get the other of 2-6 that we missed in two years.
**** the UNLV boosters and coaches. Sluka deserves the bag he was promised and they just wasted a year of his life.
Neither of us knows the truth but I find it easier to believe UNLVs story that he/his agent is greedy and trying to blackmail them for more than he got promised $100K and despite being unbeaten they did not pay it. I'd find his story much more reasonable if their record was bad and the boosters decided to renege.

I think I read that the UNLV collective confirmed that they have paid him exactly $3k so far.
so, what seems more likely - they promised him $3k and not a penny more, and he accepted that with eyes wide open and then is now demanding more? Or that they said (or maybe heavily implied) that he would get $100k but never put it in writing and then he showed up and started winning and they said sorry you're stuck now?
I don't know a ton about the market value of various players yet, but I have to imagine his market value was > $3k so I doubt the collective's version is 100% truth.
His version could be 100% truth, or it could be somewhere in between - maybe they implied that they'd pay him more if he did well, and then he thought that was $100k, then he went and asked for it and they said after the season, and he said pay me now and they said no, or maybe they offered him way less or something and feelings got hurt and he said **** off
HC cross is now at JMU, wouldn't be shocked if he xfers there after the season
doubtful an FBS QB agreed to a pittance of a $3k NIL deal
that doesn't even come close to passing the smell test

While he kept saying he didn’t know any of the specifics of the UNLV situation, Kirby Smart’s comments that “this happens all the time” somebody (such as an assistant coach / ‘cruiter) makes a commitment that isn’t actually theirs to make (like not their check) then the real check-writer says “Aw hell no” and it snowballs strikes me as remarkably similar to how football recruiting has always worked. Kinda’ like Mark Stoops but for 0.2% of the money.
I mean, I personally knew two kids who were signed as OL’s on the promise that they wouldn’t have to add weight and instead focus on athleticism only to walk into basically a forced-feeding program and strength and conditioning coaches who thought those promises were hilarious. Pretty sure if you told most coaches, “**** the kid” they’d reply “this is the way” without hesitation.
We gonna get any hurricane games this weekend or is it gonna be mostly rain by the time Saturday gets here?

ESPN said $3k a month for 4 months. So $12k not the $100k he was promised verbally.
The only formal offer from the school, according to Cromartie, was one of $3,000 a month for four months. The only money Sluka has received from UNLV, per Cromartie, was $3,000 for moving expenses.
The school and collective did formally offer $3,000 per month for four months, according to Cromartie, which was $88,000 less than what Sluka and Cromartie were told verbally last winter
Bridges are burned he's never playing for UNLV again. Both sides ****ed it up over not a lot of money. Playoff chances, where the real money is, have gone bye bye.imo.

Dave Portnoy wants into NIL and pledged up to $3M/year to get Michigan a Top 10 QB.

Your argument assumes you are correct to jump from paid so far to agreed only to that amount. Shows your bias or intelligence that you actually believe that. I think it more likely that he is not good enough to demand everything up front.
Texas is SEC ready
Anyone in for some Army option football?
Up 7-0 on a 61 yd run
When the triple option is working, it's just unstoppable
Agree. It’s a rough offense when you’re down a couple scores. But when the FB up the middle is racking up 6-8 yds a carry, it utterly demoralizes defenses.
or play a 4-3-4 type of defense on a 3rd or 4th and short. There have been a couple of these and the Army QB just snuck it up the middle for like 5 yards. If you are going to give that to Army, what do you expect will happen?
