2024 MLB Season Thread
Nobody wants these games to start more than Mannfred.
Shohei just spoke to the media for the first time. In a prepared s
Are you not aware that the Tigers' historic run was an afterthought by the media?
Confirmed whoever wins the NLCS Pads/Phils is a lock for title.
King is filthy. Has been all season. Probably the best SP in the playoffs on the best staff( sorry M's go hop in a puddle). Cease, Mustgroove, Yu
Yankees, O's,Bosox, Tigers(push), Pads all had better record on the road this season. Why did Houston get ****ed with weekday day games? They are a top 10 team media market fifth of teams in the playoffs. 2nd of teams in the WC games. **** Manfred, **** all the biased NYY League execs at the very. Literally 7 of 8 grew up as hardcore Yankee fans or employees. Also, back up the
Because the Jays didn't make the playoffs, and they have a top 5 market in size. But they are not a USA team, so networks don't care as US viewership would be low.
Lmao nah that would be you.
You do realize down 3 in the 9th if a play is even going to be remotely close you don't send the runner bc the 2 guys behind him still have to score for it to matter don't you?
You're fixated on an irrelevant scenario. They didn't sub Alvarez to get a faster runner to send on a close play. Jesus Christ.
Nice win by the Pads tonight. King has been their most consistent starter all year but he really stepped it up this game. I was a little surprised to see them use Suarez in the 9th up 4-0. He was the closer all year and did great in that role but did show some signs of fatigue as the year went on:
April: 10.1 inn, 0 ER
May: 12.1 inn, 1ER
June: 8 inn, 2 ER
July: 9.2 inn, 3 ER
Aug: 10.1 inn, 5 ER
Sept: 12 inn, 8 ER
This might be nothing other than normal variance over a small sample but there was definitely talk of giving Tanner Scott some or all of the save opportunities over the last couple of weeks of the regular season. I wonder if tonight's appearance is a sign that Scott will be pitching the 9th in close games in the playoffs.
Because of injuries, the Braves are giving meaningful postseason AB’s to Ramon Laureano and Gio Urshela.
I’ve tempered my expectations.

lmao no ****. that's exactly my point. it's not about needing a faster runner so it's stupid.
getting him out of the game made no sense. if they ended up tying the game his turn at the plate likely comes up again.
If he doubles in the 5th inning they're not taking him out of the game obviously so they shouldn't in the 9th when his run doesn't matter but another turn at bat does.

He also hadn't pitched since Friday so not really too surprising. You could be right though about someone else pitching in closer games in the 9th.
Near lock today Pads. Probably Astros, but they'll lose the series. Manea has had a weird career, but I'll give him the coin flip. There's your trixie.
Michael Kay is actually decent. If it was that mushmouth from Detroit or Toronto, I'd just throw a tuber through my TV.
You still don't get it. Of course you need a faster runner. It has nothing to do with sending him for a close play at the plate.
lmao no you don't and you don't lose your best bat for a pinch runner down 3 in the 9th.
The extra speed is irrelevant at that point.
If it was first and second you could maybe make the argument that there's a slight benefit bc a pinch runner could beat a force play in the hole where Alveraz couldn't but it's still not worth losing his bat over something so negligible.
tigasss
and so it begins
tigazzzz?
omg TIGAZZZ
wow

It's absolutely worth it. Those extra outs he makes are worth way more than any imaginary plate appearance he might have later. As played, he can't even advance on the next ball Bregman hits up the middle that any normal runner advances on. That would have put them into the 1st/2nd scenario where he's a sitting duck, and it's not a "maybe" scenario: he cannot be on the field there. Roughly one third of the balls in play will be grounders that are fielded. In that case, he makes a ton of extra outs that don't happen otherwise. Same thing if they manage to load the bases, and all while exposing him to further injury risk running bases which is how he got injured to begin with.
The Houston Astros don't hit as well without the trash can.
