HOT sauce....is it possible we don't have a hot sauce thread?

hey guys I tried searching and couldn't find any hot sauce threads, if I just suck at searching (well I def suck at searching) and there is a thread for this already mods please delete this and point me in the right direction.

I was always interested in hot sauce but just had no tolerance but gradually I've gotten able to tolerate more heat (I'm still a low level chili head compared to the real heat chasers but I'm way past the tapatio tabasco cholula siracha and other common brand name sauces) and I absolutely love finding a good new sauce.

I actually want the hot sauce to enhance the meal I'm not some psycho looking to ruin my day and taste nothing but the pain of death etc so really looking for more super delicious and unique sauces to add to my small but delicious collection.

wish I wasn't such a lazy bastard (is there a quicker easier way to post a picture without first hosting it at an image hosting site?) and could post a pic of my collection but my favs are

melinda's garlic habanero sauce

melinda's sweet n spicy japanese BBQ sauce (not spicy at all but oh man so delicious I have to stop myself from drinking it out of the bottle)

melinda's original habanero hot sauce

hot ones the classic hot sauce garlic fresno

zabs st augustine (a louisiana style hot sauce with tiny bit of sweetness it's nice and hot and oh so delicious one of my absolute favs)

adoboloco mynahs brah hot sauce

karma sauce cosmic dumpling far out hot sauce

seed ranch everything but the sushi hot sauce

I know my collection is very small but I love em all and would love to hear some of your favs.

very curious if anyone has tried maria sharpes sauces and how they compare to melindas.

The spiciest hot sauce I’ve ever had was ghost pepper sauce at a local taco joint. I tried a little dab on a bite and it seemed fairly manageable so I covered my taco. It poured out much faster than I was expecting and when I say covered I mean drowned lol. It was incredibly spicy and borderline too hot but it managed to clear up after 15-20 minutes with no major intense affects

lolololololololol truly sorry to laugh at your misery but it does make for a good story.

I'm not convinced at all but smoking ed (bred/created the carolina reaper and the new hottest pepper the pepper X and just a total chili psycho and seemingly awesome dude) claims that ppl actually throw up from all the milk they chug or ice cream they eat in desperate attempt to ease the burn.

his advice is forget about those and drink a little something with acid in it like pineapple or lime juice and then just ride it out as there is nothing more you can really do.

what was the flavor like or was it too hot to really taste anything?
that's the issue I have with some super hot sauces I don't want to just blow out my palette and not be able to taste anything.

it's really crazy just how high most everyone in southeast asia/india's tolerance is really just on another level I wonder if it's just from being given super spicy food from birth or if there is some genetic differences that make certain ethnicities more capable of tolerating heat.

only once in my life have i experienced heat to the point of inedibility

i've had hot sauces i found unpleasant if you had more than a token dabble - but only once where it made the food impossible to eat

i was in thailand, gf and i hired a boat to take us fishing

at lunch we're given one set of food and they begin eating their food, which is very different from ours

i joke about them getting the "good food" and they say "you couldn't eat this"

i ask why, they say it's too spicy

i declare that i adore spicy food and lived in china where there's a bounty of very spicy offerings

things like la zi ji are some of my fave foods and i eat the peppers too

they say i'm welcome to try their food so i do, i couldn't believe it, was like eating fire - could never imagine having an entire meal with that amount of heat

Yea lol, even in the moment I had to laugh at myself. **** flew off the rails FAST. I would agree that all the milk didn’t help with the cramps. Chugging a gallon of milk challenge was basically guaranteed to make the person throw up half way through lol.

The flavor on the ghost pepper sauce was fantastic actually. Slow rising heat so you got to enjoy the full flavor. It didn’t scorch the tongue just generally coated the mouth with spicy.

Had this sitting around so finally tried it. It’s incredibly good except that it’s a vinegar base. Chunky, fruity, then you get all that vinegar into a mellow spice. Would be nearly perfect with a tiny bit more heat and less vinegar but as it stands it’s probably a 6.8 for me

My first time in Denver I’m walking around alone and trying to branch out a bit so I decided to ask a guy where the locals ate. He thought about it a while and said “oh what’s the place called, td.. have you ever heard of tdl Fridays?” I wanted to do a Westbrook “Bro, what?” but ended up going to a Thai place. Told them to make it as spicy as possible and the girl kept checking on me lol. It was very good but nothing memorable as far as being extra spicy. I like to tell the Thai shops to make it a 6 out of 5 spicy. I don’t think they get the same peppers here as over there though

Just looked up La zi ji and I love firecracker chicken. Those peppers can be hard to chew though which detracts from the experience

Loving this thread.

If anyone reading along has a sauce that is incredibly tasty or extremely hot please share and I will pick some up to try.

I bought more of Smokin' Ed's Garlique, and Gator sauces to re-examine. Kind of want to make a youtube video sampling them cuz I know the gator will be a challenge, but I'm also aware that it would be rather boring to watch. I also have in my possession Ed's Chocolate Plague, which is made with the chocolate bhutlah pepper. I didn't mention it earlier because it has a bitter taste to it and I don't recommend it, but at 600k+ SHU it's a pretty dope burn.

It's interesting to me how things burn differently. Some things only burn the throat, while others touch different parts of the mouth and even ears.

PS- I've never had stomach issues from sauces.

PSS- Buffalo Wild Wings Blazin' sauce is really great. If anyone can find it to purchase online I would appreciate a link.

lol awesome stories guys keep em coming!

how hot was the smoking eds unique garlique sauce?

it's weird there are tons of different buffalo wild wings sauces on Amazon and other places but can't seem to find any of the blazing sauce.

I'm all proud of myself for being able to handle the melindas garlic habanero sauce when my whole life I could never handle anything spicy at all (tho to be fair didn't really try was just to scared of it) but man if I went thru what some of you guys have related I would legit be dead.

This touches on the most beautiful aspect of hot foods. No matter how hot, or how much pain is felt, it's temporary and no damage is done. Smokin' Ed grows the hottest peppers in the world under the belief that something in them is helpful for treating diseases like cancer. I suspect that hot foods are beneficial to healthy bodies as well.

ya lol I don't doubt it with how hot the sauces he makes are seems like anything that has any ability to flee your body once you ingest some would.

haha sounds intense....did you get an endorphin dump?
supposedly if the heat is intense enough it gets you high as it mimics the same neurotransmitters as some narcotics and so you get a rush of dopamine (it's similar to a runners high which I've also never experienced lol).

Yes I did, but I did not enjoy it. It felt like an adrenaline overload. Not just a rush, but like the shaky feeling you get after a near death experience. I cannot imagine anyone would like that feeling.

Of course, I feel the same way about opioids. When I have to take them for medical reasons, my first thought is always "why on earth would anyone want to feel like this for recreational purposes?"

ETA: I do like that pepper high in moderation though. As long as I'm still in complete control. There was a Thai place in Marina CA that I could tell "I want my lips to burn, but I don't want the burn to make it up to my eyes. They used fresh peppers, and the cooks taste tested each batch, so they could consistently get just the right amount of heat for great flavor and a mild rush without giving me the shakes.

B-Dubs sells their sauces in bottles to go at the counter. $5/bottle, IIRC. I buy their Caribbean Jerk, as I like it as a wing sauce, but I don't much care for tehir wings or how loud the place is, so I make my own wings and pour it on.

anyone have any recs for good sauces made with scotch bonnets?
preferably something with medium heat.

You might be able to find a Burns and McCoy Scotch Bonnet at your local store. My King Soopers (Kroger) carries the brand

Dreams of Calypso from Angry Goat Pepper is delicious and mild

My grocery store sells them, and I would imagine most do. I've purchased the Asian Zing one for cooking. Seems to be the exact same.

Just ordered Honey Bonnet from Smokin' Ed.

Ingredients: honey, cinnamon, and scotch bonnet peppers. Made of 45% pepper.

Also ordered: Nurse Shark (jalapeno sauce from a different company), Verde sauce, Chocolate Strawberry, and Goji Berry Pineapple.

Will report back trying all of these .

tuma, get yourself some lao gan ma!

While I like spicy food, I don't get the "super hot challenge" type sauces. We used to have an output of Quaker Steak & Lube here, and was with someone who did the Atomic Wing challenge.

Just dipped the tines of a fork into the sauce afterward, that was enough. Really hot, flavor not so much.

I guess I'm not as adventurous as you all.

Have a bottle of Frank's to spice up "hot" Italian sausages and spaghetti sauce. For wings, mix up some medium heat sauce with garlic parmesan. Makes a nice combo of richness/flavor from the latter, along with just enough heat from the former.

I eat this one a lot. It's just some supermarket brand, but I like it.

One of the guys I work withs brother owns a beef jerky company and his brother is going to send me a bunch of jerky including reaper, scotch bonnet, and "Armageddon" jerky.

They are trying to get the record for hottest jerky in the world

I've had a couple that were not made by Smokin' Ed and they were gross tasting.

The reason I buy from Ed is the sauces are incredibly well put together and rather tasty. They also last forever since you can only use a drop or so on your food without it overpowering.

It's also a way to get up close and personal to some exotic peppers without lighting your whole body on fire.

ya I don't have any interest in the super crazy sauces that don't offer any flavor or make the meal better just blow out your palette and ruin your day.
