Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
Sorry, the Irish thing ends up being a total lie I easily expose, and you guys want me to do more work?

Check your sources better bros. And same on land for peace.

If you get dunked on easily in here for bad facts, protect the rim just a bit harder. Mutombo is in the afterlife shaking his finger at everyone right now.

I never said the Irish were targeted. I said the Sri Lankans.

its very clear that israel are targeting terrorists given that hezbollah and hamas have both melted since oct 7

i mean the entire hazbollah leadership being killed in one week is PROOF

by Dunyain k

LOL. Why dont you go find where your great grandparents lived and declare Jihad to reconquer said land?

That would be a Zionist project, except it would relate to great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandparents, assuming approx 3 generations per century, the classical measure.

But they haven't melted, and it's not the entire leadership. Regrettably, these Iran-backed terrorist orgs are going to be around for a while. It's the Iranian regime that needs sorting, preferably before it gets nuclear weapons.

That's the best part about fighting these kinds of forever wars: you're always winning, but somehow there are always more terrorists to fight so the war never ends.

it doesnt look like they are doing very well against the people with actual weapons. they have barely made any progress and taken a lot of casualties.

I figured they would roll through and Hezbollah would just do the typical guerilla tactics. but we havent even gotten to that stage yet.

by Victor k

ithey have barely made any progress and taken a lot of casualties.

hez guy made a speech the other day citing benefits of the war so far. among then was 'tens of IDF solders killed'

wake me up when they start stealing the land. otherwise, they are losing.

Going after Iran isn’t that simple, which is why they feel comfortable attacking Israel and it’s allies through their proxies.

Hezbollah’s leadership was actually melted, but have also already been replaced. I’m sure the truth is far from what victor claims, but reality is Hez is not going to give up any time soon.

its really easy to find maps. they havent taken any appreciable territory.

Now that the IDF is opening fire on Irish peacekeepers, I'm excited to see all of the crude ethnic stereotypes that the usual suspects here are going to trot out. Remember, "Irish" is a nationality and not a race, so it's okay to call them violent savages!

Ireland barely has an army. Ironic for a nation that has so much to say about how other nations defend themselves, I know. But I’m not sure I’ve ever heard anyone call them violent savages, maybe this is projection?

Luckily, looks like it was fake news so we don’t have to analyze that. Don’t feign caring for these people if you weren’t outraged by the 71 foreign nationals killed in the Oct 7 attack. Maybe you were though.

do you think that firing on Indonesian and Sri Lankans and injuring them is fake news? or is there a reason why you only care about the Irish?

The post I responded to only mentioned the Irish.

I just woke up and am still looking at the news. Sorry, I’m not tapped in 24/7 to the Twitter, tiktok, YouTube, telegram info channels.

The IDF firing on UN forces should be investigated, obviously that is not ok.

Ok, no more sarcasm.

Please address content, not each other.

Also a reminder, this is not an appropriate thread for jokes and unnecessary sarcasm, so if we could all pull it back one notch on that end as well it would be much appreciated.

Thanks, friends

That blip of the Sri Lankans you posted sounded like something out of keystone kops. I mean I'd probably be jumping out of a watch tower with brown trousers also if a tank shell zipped by me.

Hez probably has some decent manpads. Probably can't carpet bomb with impunity yet.

Hezbollah’s leadership was actually melted, but have also already been replaced

i expect internal wrangling for position, power and legitimacy will go on for years. always the way when there are wholesale changes of leadership. plus, assuming a long war, israel will just kill any effective ones when it suits them as hez is clearly compromised

by grizy k

Unlike the UNRWA facilities in Gaza, the UN peacekeeping facilities/bases in Lebanon don't seem to be actively occupied/used by the Hizbollah.

Your claim holds very little water and IDF got a lot to answer for.

The IDF announced they were returning fire from Hezbollah, which were operating from a position so close to the UNIFIL base they were effectively using the UNIFIL forces as human shields. And no one in UNIFIL is denying this to be the case.

Given they aren't actually doing any peacekeeping, and there is a war going on, it seems the best recourse for everyone (except maybe Hezbollah) is for them to leave. And I question the motives of any UNIFIL commander that is insisting their troops remain.

Like what is the steel man argument for why UNIFIL troops should remain in the combat zone, given they serve no deterrence towards Hezbollah at best, and at worst are supporting them?

I dont know how true this is, or how impactful it will be even if true. But Israel media is reporting up to $1.5 billion in hard currency and 2000 lbs of gold were destroyed in Israel attacks on Hezbollah bunkers in Beirut.

Regardless, looks like the people of Iran are going to need to tighten their bootstraps and work double time to make Hezbollah liquid again.

by DoyleBrunsonFan k

That’s a stupid comparison because the Palestinians are actually like Russia and Israel is like Ukraine. If you want to use simple, childlike comparisons, it’s easy to see why the US is funding both Israel and Ukraine. In both conflicts the US is backing an ally who was attacked.

Oh right. You’re the guy that has trouble with comparisons. The person I was responding to is talking about total annexation of Palestinian territory against the will of its inhabitants and that it would be best for them to just accept this. In that scenario, Israel is very much Russia, nevermind that the encroachment on Palestinian land didn’t start after the Oct 7th attack.
