So did Nagumo. But the entire battle was a comedy of errors on both sides and the concept of "fog of war" was never more evident.

Not sometimes.

"Escape"

This is for Charlie or anyone else. Do all the British you "to" for comparison rather than "than"? Or is "to" used for different sorts of comparison?

Ex-girlfriend (we broke up ten years ago) still sends me emails now and then. Today she sent pictures of the Arts District in Asheville that we went to one time years ago completely destroyed. Such a shame.

But it's kinda nice we remain on good terms.

???

Do you have an example in mind?

He was greater to Joe Frazier.

He was greater than Joe Frazier.

Not the best example, but close.

I doubt I've ever heard anybody say "greater to" as a comparison, or in any other way. Is it even correct? Have you gone mad?

No, he's always been mad. Most teachers are.

Check out his wardrobe.

nowhere close to going mad
but approaching the verge of becoming angry
or more likely slightly miffed

That's not my usual wardrobe. I only wear that stuff when I'm teaching the semiotics of fashion. I bought the jacket specifically for that.

I'm far from mad. At least I think I am.

Back driving. I remembered where the pedals are.

Well there's only two. It's automatics in America, right?

And congratulations.

My car is an automatic, but I drove standards for years. It took getting stuck in a three hour traffic jam to make me switch.

Do they still even make manuals? Not driving an automatic seems ridiculous.

Still many cars with manual transmissions. Some performance cars offer a standard, and the Mazda Miata, a neat little fun car, always offered one.

My friend owned an Aston Martin Vantage with a six speed that I had fun driving. He bought the DBS Superlegerra a couple years ago but it only came with an automatic. Now Aston Martin no longer makes cars with manual transmissions.

Another friend has two BMWs and a 1983 Toyota Supra. All are manuals. Won't drive an automatic.

It helps to know things.

I'm explaining the assignment to my class on "reading" fashion. I showed them an old SNL fake advertising clip about mom jeans, which ends with "You're no longer a woman. You're a mom."

I said mom jeans seem to be making a comeback. I asked why?

An older woman in the class answered, "To cover their FUPA "

I'm glad I didn't need to ask what that meant.

I will fully admit that I am old and set in my ways with an "if it aint broke don't fix it" attitude. But I made a purchase last week I shoulda made 15 years ago. I wear headphones a lot. Mine are about 20 years old. I have replaced the foam on the earcups a couple of times, they are frayed on the headband held down with duct tape, and the earcup foam needs another replacement.

So during Prime week a week or so ago I decided to get a new pair. With that new fangled bluetooth so you don't have wires. Damn! I love these things and had no idea how much I hated wires 😀 I immediately went and bought a pair of wireless airbuds too. I hate earbuds but they are more practicle in certain situations.

I wish I woulda done this sooner but even though they are ragged and beat to hell I still like my old headphones.

just no modern way to recreate that nostalgic smell of ear wax and hair oil
must get all the senses involved
