Oh, I don't know. It's not something I've given a ton of thought to, but it probably has to do with things that are interesting to me or grab my attention—for whatever reason—and intuition, noticing logical inconsistencies, biases, etc.

I guess a better question would be - would you say you say that you treat all advances in science with the same degree of skepticism, or do you reserve the most skepticism for those which conflict with your intuitive notions or pre-existing beliefs?

What I'm driving at here, which I'm sure is pretty obvious, is that you're being inconsistent in your application of skepticism to the scientific method. The method isn't any different for the advances you personally like and the advances you personally dislike, for want of a better term. Or if you think it is, because for example you think the experts have been unduly influenced by politics, that's not an argument you've made.

I dont have a choice. the medical establishment is very restrictive. without getting too personal, doctors have caused me a lot of problems due to their idiocy.

Unless you have been involuntarily committed or are unconscious, you usually have a choice. In other words, in the overwhelming majority of situations, a doctor can't make you take medicine or pursue a particular line of treatment. In any case, I definitely wasn't trying to get details on your personal medical history. My experience with doctors apparently has been much better than yours.

Sure. Because life on earth is dependent on the heat and light of the sun to flourish, it is far more likely the sun is the dominant factor in that binary relationship than the earth.

Your turn.

Wait, what? You think that explains the Earth orbiting the sun? This explanation is quite obviously farcical on its face, since life can't cause the Earth to orbit anything, but if we take it as remotely serious, I guess the obvious objection would be that the Earth orbited the sun before any life on it existed.

You are a certifiable moron.

well, so did the Tuskegee men for 40 years.

I looked them up on Wikipedia and nothing in the article jumps out at me as to what you're referencing here?

With a very odd definition of strawmanning, might I add.

It is increasingly common for people to use the terms strawmanning and gaslighting as all-purpose criticisms of a position, with no regard for what the words actually mean.

Most of them probably have him blacklisted as a vexatious patient.

Probably. Maybe you just need to explain it to me like I'm 5. What was the thesis, that the Earth orbits the sun because life on Earth needs it for light and heat, right? Could you explain the mechanics of this in a little more detail please?

Here’s my challenge to you, MAGA warriors and trump voters, and I guess Victor

I am a leaning liberal moderate who is open minded about the prospect of voting for a republican who thinks trump is an amoral, aspiring demogauge who lies as frequently as he breathes, who is mentally incapable of the job, is just a stupid human being, and because of his moral defects, intellectual defects, and simply the fact that he has shown to be willing to burn it all to the ground to save his ass should never be

Still waiting for this challenge to be accepted

I think cuepee is the only person to ever truly put me on tilt in this forum and that was only because of his amazing stamina in clinging to terrible arguments about legal standards.

cuepee was quite the unique specimen

Let's not get sidetracked, but here's another one.

The sun is a giant, bright light in the sky. At night, there are other bright lights in the sky (the stars). Those stars don't move. We watch them every night and they have the same position they always do, relative to each other (constellations). It is very likely that the sun is just another one of those stars. Hence, it probably doesn't move either. But something is moving, because we have a day and a night. If it's not the sun that's moving, it must be the earth (and the moon). Therefore, the earth goes around the sun, and not the other way around.

Satisfied?

Now, your turn. Define sex and gender, independently of each other (one definition cannot be embedded in the other).

by d2_e4 k

Alright, fair enough. Yeah I've heard some crazy stuff mentioned, like men having cervixes and such. I honestly don't pay much attention to any of it.

just an fyi - this exact post would get you permabanned in any of the trans threads

by TookashotatChan k

Define gender and sex please, independently.

Binary sex is basically having a penis or a vagina, with XY or XX chromosomes respectively.

Gender is the outward performance of being a man or a woman, generally combined with an interior experience associated with a concordance to that gender.

By independently I just take it you mean they describe two different things.

My anecdote is I used to live in Santa Cruz and my ex was a super fake far left over the top hyperliberal (like most people in their late 20s in Santa Cruz) which ended up being one of the reasons we broke up

When Caitlin Jenner transitioned she made a big show of it and was hyperpimping everything associated with it and she was mad at me frequently that I wasn’t more hyped about it. My response was simply ‘I’m glad Caitlin’s happy but I truly don’t care about this one way or the other’ and she w

need more posts like this

I feel voting trump is worst then voting Nixon and Nixon did had to step down.

by Rococo k

What was the logical inconsistency or inconsistency in position among those posts?

i feel like we've been on the merry go round of this already

i obviously wasn't talking about appendicitis

to make it a post about appendicitis you are either:

  • trolling
  • fundamentally don't understand the situation
  • taking a cheap shot

since i don't think you troll or take cheap shots, my only logical understanding was that you failed to comprehend the issue

i'm still quite frankly confused over why you'd bring that up when we're clearly talking about elective cosmetic surgery

Thank you for answering the question "does the Earth orbit the Sun or does the Sun orbit the Earth?" The question that was asked was "without appealing to physics, explain why the Earth orbits the sun." I'm sure a man of your exceptional mental acuity will recognise that not only did you answer the wrong question, the answer that you gave was actually assumed as a premise in the question that was asked.

I know that you have an aversion to sifting through my posts, so I'll quote it for you again:

by d2_e4 k

Sure, you first though. Give us a rational argument for why the Earth orbits the sun without appealing to physics.

So far, you have managed to give a nonsensical answer on your first attempt, and an answer to a different question on your second attempt. I'm not looking to discourage your efforts, but your progress has not been what one might call "stellar".

Are you talking about secondary sex characteristics?

Fake news, even the most leftist poster in that thread was not on board with that take…

I'm sure Rococo will explain this in more detail, but he's honestly not the one lacking a fundamental understanding here.

I have a degree in medical laboratory science from the University of Alberta.

And I was mistaken. Would you also argue that people on the "pro trans" side of gender affirming care should stay out of the conversation as well, since they don't have medical degrees? Basically, everyone should just shut up unless they're a doctor?

We don't have a physics explanation for why mass bends space-time to this day.

Handy that the condition was that you couldn't use physics in your answer, then.

Nearly that, yes. Unless they are directly involved in the decision (the patient or the family of the patient, basically) or have a medical education, they should not have any input whatsoever on the treatment of that patient. I really don't even begin to understand how that isn't just obvious.

i don't think anyone has been banned for those statements since your arrival in those threads - but we've 100% had multiple poster perma banned for stating that exact thing d2 said above and if you review the thread of mod statements regarding banning you'll see it is true
