NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

Just 8 days until Florida State plays Georgia Tech!

A lot happened while you were away:

Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC

The Pac-12 went out in a blaze of glory:
Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA are headed to the B1G
Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado are headed to the B12
Cal and Stanford along with SMU are somehow headed to the ACC
Poor old Wazzu and Oregon State are now aligned with the MWC in some sort of in-flux relationship

The conferences are huge now, and the schedules are wildly imbalanced. Florida might have the hardest schedule in the history of the sport, while Missouri's playing a sun-belt slate.

FSU and Clemson play each other, but then play ZERO common ACC opponents

Utah/Baylor and Arizona/Kansas State play non-conference games against conference opponents

LSU and USC play in Vegas!

Boise goes to Oregon, a team they've never lost to!

Texas at Michigan!

Alabama at Wisconsin!

Notre Dame at ATM!

Clemson vs Georgia!

And there are some incredibly juicy new conference matchups:

Texas @ ATM is back!

Texas vs Georgia

Oregon vs Ohio State

USC @ Michigan

USC vs Penn State

And then the bizarre:

UCLA @ Rutgers is now a conference game

Syracuse plays home and away against Cal and Stanford for some reason

Half the teams have new coaches, transferred quarterbacks, or both!

Let's get it on!

This has swung to UCF -2ish.

Even in college football, when was the last team a 7-0 team was an underdog to a 3-4 team this late in season? Seems insane.

Not that insane at all... UCF isn't even the best 3-4 team!

USC, Kentucky and even 2-5 Auburn are better

And BYU isn't even the worst undefeated P4 team (obviously mediocre G5 teams are very frequently 7-0 at this point)

Pitt is a point worse!

Pitt would be a 4-5 point dog at Auburn

we're still having to confront 'sort by wins' narratives?

sigh

Gratz to Kennesaw State on finally getting a win. The beatings continued until More Owls improved

No obviously not in general, I'm not that much of a moron I do understand basic theory, I'm just also relatively new to being that into CFB so figured it was likely unusual this late in season when it's conference play just by the nature of who teams will have played / will be playing.

Chill out.

(Thx GB for actual answer)

Kennesaw State really is a program on the rise. We only started football while I was there, I think in 2016. In just a few short years, they made the FCS (division 2) playoffs twice, going as far as the round of 16.

It was so low tech, the games were broadcast on local network tv and didn’t even have first down lines. Even high school playoff games have that now.

The basketball team made the dance for the first time this past year, and put a scare into Xavier with a lead at halftime, as a potential 14/3 upset. But Xavier came back and won.

Still, big things happening, I’m proud of where they’re headed.

That's great to hear because up until last night watching them was like stabbing my eyes with forks, and I watch A LOT of CUSA games that end in me thinking, "What am I doing with my life?".

Lol WTF War Eagle.

Kilometers the idea of IU and Army at that party looking at each other nervously wondering if anyone has noticed they're there

I wonder how often a team has outgained another team by more than 3 yards per play and lost

That Arkansas game is a real spectacle

When I said I liked runGSU in this game I didn't know their plan was to not cover ODU's receivers. LOL me; for years I thought of Todd Helton as an institutional asset for Oregon (like when Les Miles at LSU) yet somehow I talked myself into thinking "he might be ok in the Sun Belt".

confused how a former tennessee qb and mlb player is associated with oregon?

Oh, sorry; "Clay". Todd sounded familiar.

syracuse QB gonna need therapy for life after this game

3 INT returned for TD in a game is the record in college (2 in the NFL btw). this record is in danger of being broken

Oh ffs zerocuse, really?

If they break the record this game should always be referred to as the Pitt 6 game

83 yards and 31 points holy ****

Who was that QB who threw like six in one year? Like maybe 10 years ago?

JARRETT LEE

god damn, that is a throwback

In 2008 he threw SEVEN pick sixes

Accounted for 7 of the 32 TDs that were scored against LSU that season

Totally makes sense to leave your starter out there in the 4th quarter up 32. What could go wrong?

If McCord winds up getting his 334 against 3rd stringers, I'm gonna' get medieval conspiratorial on their ass!

lol McCord just threw himself to the ground late 4th qtr under heavy pressure. He's learning!

That's some pretty weak shyt. It seems like they might have said something like "We don't comment on ongoing legal matters and I am fielding football only related questions." Instead they looked pretty bogus with that little plan.
