The CARES act. Govt spending similar to this is an option, a mechanism for boosting the economy that's under certain conditions.
I was thinking more long-term, because the cares act ultimately just borrowed from future growth.
The people don't even have to be productive for the benefits towards the economy to take place.
Govt aid literally increases the amount of spending towards goods and services for companies, thus causing businesses to ramp up production to meet demand and hiring more workers to accomplish those tasks. And those new workers increase their spending, boosting profits and raising gdp.
By taking money from the most productive and giving it to the least productive you are still taking money out of one pocket and putting it into the other at best.
I agree that poor people tend to spend a far higher % of the income and rich people. However, you can't ignore what rich people are doing with the money they aren't spending - nearly all of that helps the economy too. Your argument falls apart when you start accounting for where all that other money is going.

Maybe we do better by thinking of it another way. There is a lag time before automation can do jobs better than humans. The lag time obviously depends on the job but that lag time is largely constrained by what is technologically possible. As we conquor AI/Robotics that lag time collapses and will cross zero.

I thought it was around 300K kinds they lost track of that came through the boarder, but being sex trafficked or put into slave labor would be one of the much better outcomes of what they're doing with them by far.
