Talk About Movies: Part 4
Somehow threads merged, so here's part 4 of our ongoing movie discussion.
No interest in seeing this. I thought Spring Breakers was terrible and just don't get the love for Korine
Harmony is an Artist Provocateur... and has been since he was VERY young.
Sometimes it seems, we are not put upon this earth to 'get it'... but the acknowledgement of the work is mandatory.
Kids is a really great piece, even though he only wrote it and didn't direct it. It's REAL LIFE during that period for Harmony.
the young
the mature... I urge you to watch this Vice documentary retrospective.
Trash Humpsters is the most controversial films he has made, and I DO NOT suggest it for anyone that is psychologically fragile by nature. but even this Film has some basis in the reality of Hormony's life.
I have a lot to say on Perfect Days... but now does not seem the time.
I impatiently await for the Wenders 4k uhd Paris, Texas releasing in a few weeks...
Here for my screening. Apparently there is a comedy troupe who are going to Mystery a science 3000 this thing. Fun!
Showed Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train to my class tonight. They loved it. This might be the best film class I've ever had. They said that the film was really exciting.
This is a seventy five year old film in B&W. These are mostly students who before my class had never seen a B&W film.

that's cool
You are performing good work.
MANDY (2018)
Erik Estrada who? King Crimson.
We’re in the woods with the dead fawn: And the Marlborough Man!
Silence of the: Little baby starlings!
Andrea Risenborough is the star of the first half: then Nicky takes over!
Trailer park girls in a van: Do you like the Carpenters?
Truman Capote as the Messiah: In a ceremonial Klingon Bathrobe!
Mouth Breathers: As long as you are a good girl!
Don’t be negative: Toot it or lick it!
Don’t rip his shirt: Ken Landreaux? Can that be right?
I don’t know the difference between a cliche, a trope, and a Jungian Archetype, but, trust me on this, the guys who made this movie didn’t spend a lot of time worrying about it. Bad Filmmaking at its very best! Treat yourself to a viewing and Check it out!
Lol how dare you
I loved this movie! It was just an inch away from magnificence!
well then why'd you call it bad filmmaking?
It IS pure magnificence. heh
BTW, my screening was fun. Hadn't ever seen the completed movie before...and it got some good laughs and a few jump scares. There was a quick Q&A after that was fun, too. Got to talk about the complete disaster of a production lol.

That had to have been a truly unique experience. I applaud your attendance. Thanks for sharing.
I meant to take a video of my name on the title card in the credits, but I forgot!
I was hired to rewrite the script but had to include three weeks of footage they had already shot before firing the director. they were basically rebooting. They hired a guy who had never directed before and had never even seen a horror movie in his life - to replace the fired director. So combine barely usable footage with a director who doesn't know what he's doing and you get - well, a disaster. No matter what I tried to do with a script that was already horrible before I attempted to make it
Seems as though the other writer attached (Brian McMahon) went on to do something halfway decent afterwards as a documentary ("The Waitlist") the next year but then that was it for him too. No more writing credits.

Nice, Dom. But you should have got that shot of the credits.

Lol really wish it was worth watching. Trust me, it is not. So don't. Please.
Well now I have to watch it!
After waiting a long time for a 4k treatment of this film... I had to settle for this 1080p Criterion remaster.
216 minute directors cut @ 2.40:1 aspect ratio... complete remastered color grading by Cimino.
Third time in 4 nights at the Beverly...this time to see The Shining.
Gotta admit...while I appreciate that movie, I don't love it. Jack just hams up to a ridiculous degree. Shelly Duval gives the best performance in that film.
Scatman Crothers was pretty good, especially since he did 148 takes in that scene where he explains the shining.
Crothers kept asking for direction, and Kubrick kept saying that he did it fine just do it again. I guess Kubrick was trying to wear him down.

My favorite scene... :p
Oh yes... this shot is the driving narrative for the entire relationship between Danny and Jack.
SM Noir...
