Lounge Creation Myth
So a lot of cultures/religions have creation myths: Genesis, Hindu stuff, Gilgamesh, Sklansky and Malmuth kissing for the first time, Damballah the sky-serpent creating the water, etc.
But this is The Lounge, damnit! I want to know how The Lounge was created. So there was OOT, and DieBitter and Blarg and Dominic all posted there. I can remember this.
So what the **** happened? OOT says they cast you out all of heaven like fallen angels, like DieBitter is Lucifer or something.
What happened?

I know others can take credit for the creation of The Lounge, but I did propose an over 50 forum first (nice alliteration that), which morphed into The Lounge.
I think I may be one of the few that's still around here since the earliest days, even before we got numbers.

The short version is that The Lounge wasn’t born from some grand design, but from friction. OOT was the main hub, but it had a tone and moderation style that didn’t sit well with everyone. Certain posters clashed with the rules, the culture, or the direction things were going, and eventually those tensions boiled over. Some people were banned, some left on principle, and others just followed the conversation where it felt more free. There were different rules. For example, I wasn't welcome because my avatar at the time violated the rules against being a misogynistic dipshit.
I think db reached out at the time saying, nothing personal but we can't have the avi. Which was fine with me, forums can have whatever rules they want. So I never stepped foot until I changed my avatar years later.
But iirc it wasn't created as a rule-free zone or anything. This is how I remember things but I have lost a lot of braincells.
There were a lot of issues in the [censored] era of OOT.
He had cullings where we all voted for people to be banned. A lot of arbitrary stuff. Tons of crazy stuff I don't remember.
I never had a problem with him, he gave me my first undertitle, but a lot of people hated him.

Before OOT, there was OT. OT was for everything non-poker.
During the expansion years, OT was divided into a bunch of smaller forums: OOT, BBV, NVG, etcetera.
That's when the trouble started. At one time, you could click on a poster's name and select Block This Poster from the pull down menu. That disappeared. And at the same time, what I assume were a gang of clique-ish middle school girls became interested in poker and started posting in OOT. OOT broke and tl;dr and EDF and others were formed to handle the throngs of fleeing refugges.
