Um, Florida caused the original Texas Man.
Was walking by the Sprouts today (Whole Foods, but much smaller) and saw somebody striding out, carrying a plastic shopping tote. Walking purposefully, but not running.
A few seconds later, a couple of Sprouts people came out, telling her to drop it. She said something over her shoulder which I think was, "You can't catch me," but didn't hear that clearly. SP#1 told her, "just put it down, that's all you have to do."
She jumped in her car and took off rather quickly, all the while being filmed by SP#1.
I guess I witnessed a shoplifter. I'm kind of curious to know of anyone will follow up, since they have images of her and her car (or a car, at least). Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to get her address from the plates, but I don't know if the police are going to bother (assuming Sprouts can be bothered to give them the evidence).
I mean, not so interested I bothered to ask them. Just mildly curious.

There are a lot of contenders, but there has not been a genuine Mississippi Man since those two fisherman got all the media to report that they had been taken for a ride in a UFO (1970s or '80s ???). I think Florida became envious and hired a high-dollar PR firm to push Florida Man into the public consciousness after that.

Some years ago I was talking with a group of guys, at least one of whom had done significant time, when someone mentioned Muzak. This guy got a puzzled look on his face, and someone said, "You know. Elevator music." The guy replied, "Oh! You mean shoplifting music." That is how I've thought of it and referred to it ever since 😀

Back in the days when hippies roamed the earth, around these parts the female types were scarcer than convenience stores that sold beer on Sundays. I heard of them, but I doubt I saw a dozen in the wild.
Today many people think that brain drain is a disaster. Nobody is even talking about the catastrophe that was the exodus of open-minded women in the '60s & '70s.
