Complexity VS simplicity (with example: "GTO vs M-RT")

Complexity VS simplicity (with example: "GTO vs M-RT")

"Simplicity refers to the clarity and ease of use of a product. It involves removing unnecessary elements and streamlining features to create an intuitive experience for users. On the other hand, complexity encompasses the depth and intricacy of a product."

I think this definition succesfully shows the outlines of the conflict between both styles / approaches. If we assume that NL HOLD'EM is a "product", then it matches the point of this thread perfectly. Especially when we consider the very simple mechanics of NLHE and its very deep strategy.

I like to swim in deep waters and set my bar high, so I'll try to compare both strategic approaches on the example of GTO and my newly developed M-RT.

It's difficult to precisely define the functioning of M-RT. But as the name of the project suggests, it's a solution for HU tough spots that helps you track your opponent's range. That's the main feature. You can also use it for a deeper insight into your emotions and mind states - this can be very useful in live poker. The most simple way to use M-RT is to follow your "confidence level" (%) and base your decision entirely on it. That's my favorite option, probably because I've just started learning it. You can also adapt it to your personal guidelines and style. It's a quite flexible tool. Generally, it helps you find the way when you're somehow lost.

From what I've noticed after using and testing this thing is:

- my self-confidence during the game is better
- my concentration is better
- I play faster
- tough spots no longer irritate me
- tilt is also not a problem

These may have to do a lot with the game psychology and my mental zone, but only partly. Tough spots usually involve really big pots or even your tournament life, so if you want to be a good player you need to be able to cope with those and overcome such obstacles.

I'm testing M-RT in tough spots I encounter in 360 players MTT's against very clever and demanding AI bots, trust me on this one. It's not real money, but it can be fairly compared to a normal freeroll. Besides, you can play really fast (average hand takes 5 - 10 seconds when folded, or 10 - 20 seconds when with showdown), so your overall perspective on your action during this MTT's against bots is better when compared to real tournaments.

Anyway, let's get to the point. My personal choice is ...

1. Simplicity
2. Complexity
3. Both balanced

... of course number 1.

Complex interfaces like GTO solvers may be good for players who want to get deep into the game and eliminate negative details in their play that matter in the long run. Or people who can almost simultaneously process and use different data types for example. My approach is kind of different, you can call it laziness, but I always choose simplicity and easier access to important data. I think you can use a simple interface for a longer time than a complex one, and you are less tired after a long session, regardless of the category whether it's poker or something else.

Ok, that's the outline of this confrontation, I hope you find this interesting. If so, please post. Don't worry, I won't be posting as much graphics as I usually do in my threads, because the work is over and ... here is the FINAL VERSION of my "M-RT" graphic. It may not look simple, but it's just one graphic, so I think it's the essence of simplifying your strategy and condensing useful information with "all - in - one" method:

Tonight my CASIO G-SHOCK watch spoke to me and said: "Ok, but what about me ?" It really happened, I was listening to music and pressed the back light button to see the time and suddenly I realized that M-RT still needs an update. Sorry for the delay, but luckily I completed my work before the US election day 😃

MULTI - RANGE TRACKER

New M-RT changed my life. I started to play MTTs like the devil:

Perfect bet sizing, bunch of hero calls every session, very fast decisions, rare mistakes or tilt, successful comebacks, heavy bullying when big stack, good bluffs, etc.

This thing gives me so much fun and concentration that I rarely encounter tough spots now.

I rarely encounter tough spots now.

I couldn't be more wrong - I've just played a 360 bot tournament and I used M-RT, 7 or 8 times in this particular tournament because I was tired of not winning (played 5 hours today) and I had no clue what to do. Every time I made a M-RT decision based on astronomical phenomena, because it's very simple and like I say I was exhausted, it's quite late here now. And all 7 attempts seemed to be CORRECT !! I won this tournament of course. In the last $330K (of $360K total) pot hand I used M-RT twice - I bet on the flop, AI goes all in and I call. We both totally missed the T92 rainbow flop, I had AQ and he had A2. Queen on the turn and it's over.

This is so sick, it's kind of scary of how good I play now, I'm not joking

This last graphic file (post #26) is the best, save it if you want to learn and use M-RT.

You may be wondering, what's this stopwatch thing all about:

Well, the color eye icons on the action buttons refer to the direct face to face eye contact. And the stopwatch data displays explain these eye icons arrangement. When you use a stopwatch on a classic G-SHOCK square watch without looking and you press START >> SPLIT >> FINISH you have then 5 options of what you can do with checking this data with your own eyes. This is basically for a live game where you can be better at reading live tells.

I don't know, I'm kind of shocked a bit, but luckily - positively. This is a very serious poker tool.

M-RT has arrived !!!!

Hit the like button 😀 😀 😀 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

How are you getting so many hands in OP!? I have been trying out the latest M-RT @ 5nlz and I reach this typical spot:

PokerStars - $0.05 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 103.6 BB
SB: 100.4 BB
BB: 210 BB
UTG: 111 BB
Hero (MP): 101.4 BB
CO: 91.2 BB

SB posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has T Q

fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, fold, fold, SB calls 2.6 BB, fold

Flop: (7 BB, 2 players) J 8 9
SB checks, Hero bets 4.6 BB, SB calls 4.6 BB

Turn: (16.2 BB, 2 players) 5
SB checks, Hero bets 10.4 BB, SB calls 10.4 BB

River: (37 BB, 2 players) 7
SB bets 17.8 BB, Hero? *clock ticking*

So.. following the chart… I believe this is a clear ‘wood’ situation. What does my opponent not want me to do?
So I should ‘raise’, right? With confidence? That’s the M-RT protocol for this spot? So I’m all ready to hit raise and own this microstakes punk with some M-RT magic when… all of a sudden I realise …there’s no solar eclipse. 😮 In fact there hasn’t been one since so I’m still technically playing the hand.

I'm happy to hear you're trying out the latest version of M-RT 😀 You sent a hand where there is a 100% raise situation from the HERO's perspective because you have the stone cold nuts. You use M-RT only when you totally don't know what to do. M-RT doesn't work in any way in situations like the one in this river example.

You must be in a tough spot and hesitate 50 / 50 or 33 / 33 / 33 on your next action to activate M-RT.

Next thing - I assume you might made your flop and turn bets using the M-RT and you still want to apply it on the river. The M-RT decision doesn't refer to the whole hand. For example: you can hesitate between CHECK / BET on the flop and then between FOLD / CALL / RAISE on the turn - both situations describe a different moment and each requires a different approach on M-RT.

When you're sending a hand history pointing at a particular moment with a "HERO ?" situation, this situation must be a tough spot for the HERO. And this one isn't 😀

Alright. Fair point. I'd better let him know he can go now then.

Ceres, I can't wait to see an example hand history containing a tough spot situation where you really couldn't decide what action to choose.

We could then compare it to what GTO says about it 😉
