Trump 2nd term prediction thread
So, looks like Trump not only smashed the electoral college, but is looking on track to win the popular vote, which seems to be an unexpected turn of events, but a clear sign of the current temperature in the country and perhaps the wider world.
Would be interested to hear views on how his 2nd term will pan out from both sides of the aisle - major happenings, what he's going to get done, what he's not going to get done, the impact of his election on the current conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, whether his popularity will remain the same, wane, or increase, etc.
A bit of an anemic OP, I know, just interested to hear people's thoughts now that the election uncertainty is over.
Trump winning is obviously a huge win for Putin on Ukraine.
I pretty much expect the status quo in terms of the U.S. position on I/P.
I do not expect to see more adults in the room this time around. Sure, Trump has the benefit of having done this exercise one time before. But he also has a demonstrated pattern of burning and diminishing anyone who signs up to be an adult in the room. I'm sure there will be a couple of adults who are reckless enough to give it a whirl, but fewer than last time.
The independence of the DOJ will he greatly diminished. Trump will do his best to persecute his perceived enemies.
Judicial nominations will be a disaster from my perspective.
The economy will roll however it rolls. The causal chain between the WH and the economy is usually overhyped, and the effects of WH policy on the economy, such as they are, often are not felt for months or years.
Deficit spending will not change. Trump likes to throw money around as much as the next guy.
Trump will be mostly a punch line to a joke in the international community if you care about such things.
Trump won't drag us into any active wars. But he won't keep us out of any active wars that otherwise would have occurred either.
The tone at the top of course will be juvenile and horrendous, probably worse than the first time around because he doesn't have to worry about consequences. Trump's enthusiasm for insulting people and being a social media troll isn't going away.
The grift will continue full steam ahead.
As his term progresses, age will exacerbate many of his worst qualities.
He will begin grooming someone in his family, presumably Don Jr., as his successor.
The Republican Party will continue to stagger down the road that Trump has paved.
WH attacks on the media will be relentless. Media balkanization will accelerate. Wide-scale acceptance of objective reality will continue to deteriorate.

I predict President Trump will start flying in one of the VIP blue and white "air force one" airplanes months before he's officially inaugurated, either the VC-25a or the smaller C-32a (I'm sure everyone still remembers when Biden flew to his inauguration in a commercial a/c which showed how little the military respected his regime).
I also predict there will be some type of disclosure (severely overdue), hopefully sooner rather than later, so the public and world will continue to stand behind President Trump. They couldn't do it in his first term because they were still strategically weakening the DS little my little, and it continued all throughout the Biden regime.

Guess that's true only when you lose.
Guess the only real question is how many people will he actually go after? He blusters a lot about that. Sometimes he backs off, but he definitely *wants* to it's just how much he can get away with it.

Just on abortion I think that will be a 2028 ticket item for Vance. Trump seems pretty pro abortion or about as pro abortion as a Republican candidate can get on the issue.
