POG Politics Thread Version 3
Come on in! Since Dustin is taking his ball and going home, it's time to start a new politics thread.
I feel it is true. People don't want to give up their current plans.
I see people in Canada or UK waiting months for medical procedures. I don't want that for me. If I want an MRI tomorrow, I can now get one.
What's true for you is no longer true for lots of people in this country. My friend who needed an MRI due to sciatica pain had to wait six weeks.
I require psychiatric medication and my insurance changed recentlry which necessitated a new psychiatrist. The first available appointment which I booked was for April.
lol as a Canadian, I can assure you that we look upon your health system with horror and sadness. If you're rich enough, you can buy an MRI tomorrow. If you're not, you just die.
If I have a medical need for an MRI tomorrow, I can get one. If I have a non-urgent need for an MRI, I may need to wait a few weeks for it. I'll happily pay the taxes I do for the medical care I get - my income tax bill is probably not much higher than I'd pay down there for health insurance
I have a standing offer from a friend in the U.K. to get married and move there. I'm starting to seriously contemplate taking it.
However, private industry and competition will do it faster, better and way cheaper.
Capitalism is the engine of USA#1
Communism is dead.
If there is one thing that is demonstrably false, it is that private industry and competition rein in health care costs.
If anything, health care providers and health insurance companies don't disclose costs up front, don't tell you when they allow a doctor in a hospital that is not on your health plan to provide care to you, and basically make any kind of cost analysis impossible for the consumer.
Honestly, Mark, do you liv eon the same planet thtat the rest of us do?
Booking doctor's appointments is quite annoying. Feel like I should be able to collect social credit for not seeing a doctor in a long time to get in to see one sooner when I need it. In front of all the hypochondriacs.
And then you see them and they are mostly worthless. They're just a state sponsored drug dealer and they can order tests I can't order for myself. And most of the time the test is useless. They just follow some flow chart.

doctors are worse than thieves. I always say

My doctors are awesome and definitely not just following a flowchart.
BTW, my doctor's health group also offers a concierge service. You can get a next day appointment if you want.
Filthy, I agree with this. The Harris loss had nothing to due with the Democrats being too centrist/right wing (lol). They just lost touch with reality.
Sure there are initially some crazy prices. But those are never the prices that you pay. Insurance negotiates them way down.
Filthy you are crazy to not have insurance. Especially at your age. smh
To require private insurance in the crazy part.
Finance and negotiation shouldn't come into it with healthcare.
It's terrible to read stories about people with medic alert bracelets saying "don't call an ambulance" or people dying because they rationed their insulin. And that story about the person whose wife got extremely ill and even though he had great insurance and great savings the medical bills still bankrupted him.
Even if those are extreme cases they shouldn't happen at all, not even once.
As an outsider America seems like a great place if you get past a certain income level provided that you're well organised and lucky enough to not have extreme things happen to you. It seems like you're in that group of people Mark and can't empathise with those that aren't.
Again, this is what most Americans want and are happy with. If people wanted something different, it would happen.
There are lots of low cost medicine programs and government funded health coverage for low-income families.

I was thinking last night that as an old white male systems engineer with a house in the suburbs and an SUV, that none of this will affect me negatively whatsoever. I'm not Muslim or an immigrant. I'll never need an abortion or emergency care for an ectopic pregnancy. I'm cis and het.
But it's not political to take care of people who are struggling. And Capitalism doesn't make things more efficient and cheaper, Markets do that. Which is why currently existing socialism looks like China, a market economy with socialist orientation.
Samsara is wisdom unrecognized.
American Health care is bad because it's too expensive for treatments of questionable scientific merit, not because of anecdotes from reddit that may not have even happened.

Or, you know, if people want something different on the state level, it's terribly easy to put up barriers to voting and disenfranchise them instead...
Most Americans want what they have because they've heard lies about what public healthcare is, so they believe that the current system is better.
Negreanu is just another fragile dude sad that people criticize him. That whole perspective he posted there is just Mommy's Special Boy sitting in the corner confused that everyone doesn't love him enough
The only thing you can learn by listening to an American talk is what media they consume.
Also Bill Maher should be interesting to watch tomorrow. Another funny dude!
I remember Tyrus from when he was the Funkasaurus in WWE and then a few years ago Billy Corgan (yes, THAT Billy Corgan) made him the champion of the NWA (not THAT NWA, the national wrestling alliance) and everyone absolutely hated it because he can't wrestle or do anything interesting.
Later, on the precipice of the NWA getting a big new TV deal, Corgan had Father James Mitchell, the Sinister Minister, celebrate himself with an on-air cocaine and hookers party. TV deal canceled.
Billy Corgan just completely lost it after Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness in a way few other men have ever lost it. He's shooting pool with a rope out there.

You bring a tear to my eye thinking about old wrestling memories. The entertainment of my youth! Also so good.
whoa, I had no idea billy Corgan got into wrestling, and all that other stuff. my ex had a huge crush on him
