The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet...i'd be shocked if they lost the election now.

Just shows just how incompetent Conservatives are.

Clearly you didn't read the report that you thought showed a "lie". The fiscal anchors in the budget are all on a deficit-to-GDP basis. This is the metric where canada was - and maintained - being EXCELLENT among the g7.

I actually DO remember the full quote and full context of the budgets balance themselves. It was a conservative orthodox economic position he was espousing which is that when the economy grows so much, then that generates the government revenue. Guess what? That conservative orthodox economic position is PRECISELY the mechanism poilievre will use to claim that he will balance the budget too! He won't. But he will claim the same principle. Something tells me you won't spend years and years microquoting poilievre out of context though.

It baffles me how someone can be so blind to the incompetence of the PM and his constant lies.

Maybe so. But at least *I* don't make factual errors at anywhere near your rate and at least *I* actually read the reports were talking about and least *I* know the full context of the quotes. In contrast YOU were the one that claimed Trudeau was backtracking when if you quoted the full quote you would see he was completely consistent (and correct).

So maybe clean up your own bedroom first.

So Quebec is going to get tough on Immigration the one that baffles me is the person that studies here has learned the french language and wants to stay and you kick them out.

Also watched a clip of the Bench with CTV news and one of the panelist said there are 10,000 immigrants that are doctors and 30,000 that are nurses and we make it very difficult to certify them .

Kudos to Danielle Smith leading the way to protect kids and parents rights.

unsurprising that - of all possible issues to make bills about - punching down on trans kids in schools is the one you are cheering on.

It is so sad, and my heart breaks for the young trans kids (and heck, all LGBT kids since even basic education about sexual orientation is being stifled).

Stop .
Its not effective yet .
It’s only for new applications so no one already in will be affected .
Doesn’t prevented them to immigrate in Canada .
Many here study and never learn French anyway .
Some already know French .
French speaking isn’t only useful in quebec .

And it it’s only temporary while they will keep some line open where the focus will be more aim for the needs of the economy .
It’s not 100% close it’s just not 100% open .

And nothing prevent them having their citizenship in other provinces and come here afterward shrug .

There is an immigration problem and obviously some future people will be affect momentarily shrug .

She may be gone at the leadership review . If Only Justin allowed a secret ballot

Isn't it just really - really - sad that her attempt to appease her base and survive a leadership review is to just focus her government's legislative agenda on punching down on LGBT people causing a chilling effect on their acceptance? So sad.

I also don't get this.

Poilievre is way WAY ahead in the polls. Why does he have to lie so perniciously? Like is he really incapable of combatting the potential thread of mark carney taking over by just starting with easily disprovable lies?

So sad that we have one politician so relentlessly dedicated to twisting the truth. We can bemoan the occasional truth stretching by other politicans in other parties, but if your political identity is about rejecting politicians who lie, nobody is even close to poilievre.

Popped in here for the first time in a few months, and am saddened to see you cheering on this patheticness. Protecting kids? Bullshit.

In order of how much I hate that ridiculous legislation, from least terrible to worst...

1. "It would also prohibit health professionals from performing sex reassignment surgeries on minors." So, probably a lot of minors should wait because it's a big decision, but is there a problem with letting doctors and families figure out what's appropriate in each case?

2. "The UCP government has proposed one bill, the Education Amendment Act, 2024, that would require children under 16 to have parental consent if they want to change their names or pronouns at school." OK, I get that there are parents who would be cool with their kids being trans but are uncomfortable with their teachers being told without them knowing. And maybe those parents haven't thought through what a law like this means for kids whose parents will kick them out or worse. But Danielle Smith and her education minister should sure as hell understand the issue if they're passing legislation on it.

3. "The second bill, the Health Statutes Amendment Act, 2024, would prohibit doctors from treating those under 16 seeking transgender treatments such as puberty blockers and hormone therapies." - see 1.

4. "The third bill, the Fairness and Safety in Sport Act, would ban transgender athletes from competing in leagues not designated co-ed and require school and sports organizations to report eligibility complaints." Holy government overreach, Batman! Like, what in the **** is a provincial government doing even worrying about this in the first place? Pretty sure the different sports organizations can figure this out in a way that is appropriate for each sport and age group.

5. "The bill would also require parents to opt-in for their children to be taught about sexual orientation and sexual and gender identity at school. The legislation also restricts any kind of curriculum that teaches about gender diversity." If you don't want people to think you're deeply homophobic/transphobic, don't pass legislation that is deeply homophobic/transphobic. This is the ****ing worst.

"we are here to support and uplift every child who identifies as transgender and who experiences gender dysphoria as well as their families, who wants what’s best for them" Riiiiight, that sounds like exactly what you're doing. 🙄

At my son's class the teacher did an "opt-in" for something random (including kids photos in a monthly newsletter). Presumably few parents actually object, but because it was opt-in literally ONE parent actually bothered to respond to the email to say its ok.

Suppose a teacher wants to read a book that happens to have two gay dudes in it. THey have notify the parents, solicit enough opt-in's to make it worth it, construct some fully alternate activity for those that don't opt-in (probably begging the principle to dedicate a teaching resource to run the alternate activity), get the book approved by the ministry of ****ing education all before they can read the book. If they don't dot their is and cross their ts teachers are at constant risk of conservative anti-LGBT activities elevating the one time they read the book without doing every 100% by the details of the legislation.

What is the effect of all this? OF COURSE teachers are just not going to bother reading that book. The chilling effect is tragic.

public school teachers should have 0 agency deciding curricula, like literally not a single choice ever.

everything that happens in schools should be decided by politics, ideally local politics, preferably school-level politics, with teachers acting as the actual servants of the community humbling executing the orders of their paymasters and never even trying to steer from what the people paying want to be done.

FANTASTIC NEWS. Canadian Enbridge has secured a $700 million expansion into the gulf of mexico. Really great to see Canadian industry being competitive on the global stage.

But hold on. Poilievre is unhappy.

Why?????? Under what economic theory is this a bad thing? Canadian companies competing on the global stage isn't money "leaving" Canada. Heck, Canada is #2 in the G20 on foreign direct investment per capita so plenty of money flows "in" to Canada as well, this is just part of being in a multilaterial world. In no sense is there a pile of cash worth $700M sitting in Canada that suddenly has been transferred to the US.

So lozen, is your dear leader just profoundly ignorant about basic economics with some hyper-isolationist worldview, or is he just lying through his teeth to score political points?

Did you miss the fact that Trudeau announced more emissions caps which of course screw Alberta . Luckily they are after Trudeau is gone

It would be better if they could invest in Mexico and Canada not just Mexico

I get your desire to whataboutism when your dear leader spouts economic nonsense, but could we maybe concentrate on how ridiculous poilievre statement for a bit? Like are you capable of giving ANY criticism of your dear leader here? Don't worry, you can go right back to trying to bash Trudeau soon enough!

NO I said investment in Mexico is great but it would be better if we had an environment that promoted exploration and investment in Canada and a Energy East Pipeline. Drilling for for Natural Gas to supply to Europe .

Do you then agree that poilievres tweet is idiotic and shows either no conception of how an economy works and/or is just lying when he says $700 million is “leaving” Canada?

No the fact that you cant fathom the idea and fact that Justin Trudeau is trying to crush any new future development in oil and gas is beyond me. Bill C69 is one and yes companies like Enbridge will take their investment $$ elsewhere to develop new natural resource opportunities . So yes he is right it be great if they invested 700 million here

The USA has shown us that the voters are tired of woke politics

You can oppose bill C69 AND STILL recognize that Poilievre's statement is really ignorant of basic economics and really deceptive. It's a really good thing that Canadian companies are able to expand in competitive global markets and just ludicrous to say that $700M dollars is leaving Canada for the US when this happens, absolutely nothing close to that is actually happening economically. This is just a basic litmus test of partisanship, are you capable of critiquing your own side when they say something stupid?

Answer: no.

As for your whataboutism, you are not even close to right in your own whataboutism. The cap proposed in B69 doesn't limit new production. It limits EMISSIONS. Under currently technologies we can actually INCREASE production by 16% through 2032 while simultaneously lowering emissions. Hopefully technology continues to improve so that emissions can be brought down even lower.

Another lie lozen .
Congratulation.

In 2024, overall Canadian oil production growth is among the highest of any country in the world. As a result, S&P is forecasting total oilsands emissions in Alberta to increase by about five per cent.

Ah yes I forgot , fake news .

Ps: no idea why you focus so much on nonsense when there is so many fields you could actually critic Trudeau for good reason shrug ….

Here are two things that can be true

Oil production at its highest and Justin’s government is not resource friendly
