Villain open 8bb, what should I do with JJ

Villain open 8bb, what should I do with JJ

25% left of the field
A bad reg opens for 8bb (with 8bb left) from the HJ. I’m pretty sure his range includes AK, AQ, and 99-JJ.
He’ll never have AA or KK, and it’s very rare for him to have QQ.
I have 20bb and JJ on the Button. I shove, and he ends up calling with AK.

After some thought, I wonder if calling might be better.
If AK doesn’t shove up on the flop, I can then shove.
Would this be a good exploit against him?

Actually I am 80% sure his hand is AK

Shove is good. Sorry you lost the flip.

Not shoving just gives yourself a chance to make a mistake on the flop, or a chance for villain to get away from 99-TT.

my flop decision is simple, if AK didn't show up on the flop, I just shove myself LOL

Nice hand.

His raise is an effective allin since he only has 16bb total, it would be a tougher decision if it was 40bb+ effective.

If I for some reason did the play HJ did I would probably shove all flops, with the exception perhaps of some real good hits. Which would mean your position isn't in fact to your advantage here. I would definately shove any ace or king, even with hands like TT or AQ. If u're planning to fold that means you will lose sometimes with the best hand.

Dan Harrington wrote "Beware of the great overthink" in one of his books. I'm sure he would label your way of playing and arguing about this hand exactly that. Keep it simple and put the effort in situations that are difficult for real.

Min raise and fold to 5bb jam seems to be the play tbh.

Also you can’t flat and hope AK bricks flop to prevent him seeing turn/river because exactly 100% of the time the money is going in on the flop.
