FACTS

I know the math slightly favored kicking the field goal... but there's truly something to be said about trusting in your OLine, in Monty, and controlling your own destiny.

by bahbahmickey m

If you look at how he has played since he's had two NFL caliber pass catchers with at least a week to practice with - that is a 5 game stretch and he has a 9/1 TD/INT ratio and has passed the eye test with flying colors.

Wow! A 9/1 TD/INT ratio, his record must be fantastic! His 25thish passer rating and ANY/A worth the dumb RFK locker room cancer for sure

Yeah I loved and hated the call. I mean if you're doing it because you think your defense is so gassed/shorthanded that you're highly likely to give up a tying FG, that also means you're likely to lose the game outright if you get stuffed, as opposed to a tie and a coinflip in OT.

Too lazy to do the math and figure out what the odds of picking up a full yard+ there have to be to make that tradeoff, but I'd have to say they weren't good enough. It's probably the right call on 4th and like 6 inches, but not 4th and a full yard.

Also might be more correct if you're like inside the 10 or something, where there's a huge difference between the spot GB would start from compared to the touchback spot after a kickoff, much less chance of giving up the game winner in regulation.

Yeah, it worked this time, but that really seems like a stupid gamble. Goff getting his foot stepped on really highlights just how much stuff could have gone wrong.

Reminds me a little of the 4th and 3 he went for against SF last year instead of kicking the game tying FG.

Ironically, they lost that game 34-31

Counterpoint:

Only time will tell how much the team gains from that experience. But going 4 for 5 on 4th down conversions last night was a huge statement.

Ravens went 3 for 3 on 4th down conversions against Chargers two weeks ago, including a 4th and 1 early in the game inside their 20. If coaches can err on the conservative side, you got teams now willing to be too aggressive, but at the same time building confidence in the team for the truly big games.

I was talked into goff for MVP. Thought Allen was a lock but it could happen.

You got me to look at some stats. It seems like MVP is going to come down to barkley +350 or Lamar +800.

I think goff +1,100 has to absolutely go off to catch lamar.
Jawsh -220 has to hope for the mahomes treatment, but that isn't happening.

I think lamar will be the clear most valuable player by the end of the regular season, but winning the MVP and being the most valuable player in the league are too different things. However, +800 is too good of value to pass up.

If BUF gets bye Josh is a virtual lock for MVP.

Similar in NFC with Barkley, but probably more like -150/-200.

Record definitely plays a huge part in the voting.

Josh has 26 total TDs, but just comparing your basic passing stats, it's not like he's been leaps and bounds better than Rodgers or Mahomes. It's possible his advanced metrics are lot better, but I'm not sure if the voters pay attention to that.

My vote would go to Saquon, but sadly, he probably needs to break the rushing record or at the very least get to 2k.

Basically Lamar needs everything to go right with the other teams, and even then he is not much better than a coin flip.

If KC runs the table I'd go with Mahomes over Lamar.

It's just such a strange time to be alive. Not only do the Lions have the clear best coach in the NFL but the gap between Campbell and whoever's #2 is probably wider than the gap between #2 and the bottom of the league. It's crazy man.

Goff compares Sun God to Aaron Donald

In addition to demanding perfection on the practice field, he maintains a daily routine of catching 202 passes from the Jugs machine, completing 200 situps and juggling and catching a tennis ball 500 times off a wall to improve his hand-eye coordination. His serious approach, competitiveness and production on the field have made him one of the franchise's foundational players and one quarterback Jared Goff likened to an all-time great.

"The way I compare him to Aaron [Donald] is just that when he steps on that grass, he's not messing around," Goff told ESPN. Donald, a three-time defensive player of the year, was a teammate of Goff's for five seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. "There's no funny business. We're out there to work and Aaron was that same way.

"In the locker room, we have fun, and we joke around, and Aaron was that way, too, but there was a clear flip that switched when we get between the white lines, and I think I see that with him every day."

clear flip that switched is the new undertitle for amon-ra

the final paragraph of the story i linked

"In the game, it's different. I'm smart. I'm going to keep my composure. I'm never going to throw a punch, unless it's egregious, but in practice, anything goes," St. Brown said. "So, if it's getting out of hand, I'm going to throw a punch and in training camp, they're not fining me. It's practice, again. Some people think they can just do what they want, but that's not the case with me."

Was that a switch or a flip?

Dan Campbell should be President of these United States.

He’d get everyone to rally together as one nation under God!!!

There is zero chance of this

You don’t get to throw 5 picks in a game and win mvp (I’m totally not bitter)

It’s saquon, Josh kelly or lamar, probably Kelly’s to lose

His overall stats are good and team record is good, plus a high profile game against Josh next week.

Ravens have lost too many games. If they win out a small chance.

Saquan the wild card

If Lions beat the Bills and Goff has a good game 250/3/0-1, then he should be the favorite to win unless Saquan beats the record.
