NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA
Just 8 days until Florida State plays Georgia Tech!
A lot happened while you were away:
Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC
The Pac-12 went out in a blaze of glory:
Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA are headed to the B1G
Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado are headed to the B12
Cal and Stanford along with SMU are somehow headed to the ACC
Poor old Wazzu and Oregon State are now aligned with the MWC in some sort of in-flux relationship
The conferences are huge now, and the schedules are wildly imbalanced. Florida might have the hardest schedule in the history of the sport, while Missouri's playing a sun-belt slate.
FSU and Clemson play each other, but then play ZERO common ACC opponents
Utah/Baylor and Arizona/Kansas State play non-conference games against conference opponents
LSU and USC play in Vegas!
Boise goes to Oregon, a team they've never lost to!
Texas at Michigan!
Alabama at Wisconsin!
Notre Dame at ATM!
Clemson vs Georgia!
And there are some incredibly juicy new conference matchups:
Texas @ ATM is back!
Texas vs Georgia
Oregon vs Ohio State
USC @ Michigan
USC vs Penn State
And then the bizarre:
UCLA @ Rutgers is now a conference game
Syracuse plays home and away against Cal and Stanford for some reason
Half the teams have new coaches, transferred quarterbacks, or both!
Let's get it on!
If SMU scores, it's a no-brainer to go for two, right? Win the game or lose by 1.
hilariously, in this exact circumstnace where there is such a huge difference between losing close and losing big, it might actually be fine
Yeah this a case where SMU should not go for two as OT guarantees a playoff berth if it is in doubt.
Also I have been making fun of SMU for not throwing more than 6 yards but that might be the best idea.
8? It was after OPI.
quite the drive by Oregon... PSU has life
If you score with time left, going for 2 and making it can force the other team to play aggressively when they would otherwise just take it to OT
I think that is especially true of a team like Clemson
If you score with say, 27 seconds left, Dabo just takes it to OT, but if you go for 2 and make it they go try to get a FG which is very plausible in that amount of time
Also like, SMU spotted Clemson 21 points off of some chaotic turnovers and nerves, and since then has basically domianted the entire game
would feel very good about their chances in OT
PSU I think stays ahead of ND even with a loss
Texas might as well
nightmare scenario for ND, might drop out of the coveted 5 or 6 seeds
hell yeah SMU....
and lol PSU
I was not familiar with Jennings's game but holy wow.
LET'S ****IN GO
Hahahhahahahhahahahha. Never in doubt
Ship it. SMU first year playoff berth.
OMG lol SMU kickoff coverage.
Holy ****.
Freshman kicker hits a 56-yarder as time runs out, right down the middle. What a world
f**k off and die SMU...how in the f**k do u ever give up a game winning FG there when you tie the game with 16 SECONDS LEFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
unreal garbage and stupidity...
Bye bye Bama!!!
Clemson should play @SMU 1st round. Start with the score at 3-0.
Jesus just keeps delivering.
1 Oregon
8 Ohio State / 9 Tennessee
4 ASU
5 Texas / 12 Clemson
2 Georgia
7 Notre Dame / 10 Indiana
3 Boise State
6 Penn State / 11 SMU
Worst case scenario for Alabama
Also for ND, Texas and Penn State losing close is the only possible way they could plausibly drop out of the coveted 5/6 seeds
Notre Dame / Indiana would be absolutely lit though
I don’t follow why we’re certain SMU gets in over Bama
Betting odds on FanDuel were like +1300 for a second but slowly moved down to +300 ish.
If you go by relative positions of Miami and smu last few weeks smu should drop out. But they did look good which matters a bit.
