The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet...i'd be shocked if they lost the election now.

Just shows just how incompetent Conservatives are.

"electricity production" not energy production. nuclear does more then "electricity" Theres no way that 7.7% stat is true if its all energy

Indeed, that is electricity. The majority id our electrical grid is already not fossil fuel based. Hence why replacing the remainder of our grid with nuclear could be a good idea but not massively impactful. If talking about all energy, like that in cars and planes and heating etc, well yes that uses far more. I’m definitely supportive of things like building out nuclear energy on an as needed basis over and above current electrical power while mandating things like mass conversion to EVs, heat pumps, etc.

Aghh small businesses are complaining about the GST holiday. There is no number to call with questions . I ve heard reports it may save the average CDN $5.00

As well the fall economic update can't be delayed much longer . Liberal strategy release in December just before the Christmas break so Pierre cant embarrass them on the fact they couldn't meet their own ceiling of a 40 billion $ deficit. My guess its closer to 50 billion

Can you share?

Pedro Antunes, the chief economist of the Conference Board of Canada, projects average household savings of $100 to $200

I'm saving right off the bat getting my son his first switch.

I had to google what a switch was 😀 I cant see anything on that list ill be buying

you don't eat at restaurants?

Chances are not during those dates may head out for a few pints . I’m not sure if those are GST exempt .

I’m curious are you buying your son a switch because it’s GST exempt or were you going to buy him one anyways ?

Yes beer will be exempt. I’m buying him one anyway and saving the GST by waiting until the 15th.

Some speculation is that the Deficit will be 60 Billion after the Liberals set a ceiling of 40 billion . If this is true I get why they waited as long as they could to release the fall economic report

so is the gst completely removed for the month or is it just decreased? gst is only 5% of the 13% on taxes Christmas shopping's already done so ill probably save like 30 bucks . buying a switch is 20 bucks if its a full gst removal. I think if your not a parent shopping after the 15th (most shop before that) you shoul make it into the hundreds but thats not the majority. if you have no kids your saving like 30-40 bucks on grocery's and booze . 600$x0.05=30$ you get 10 bucks for every 200 spent on specific items

why is it from dec15 -feb 12 and not dec 5- feb 1 were it would be more used

all about looking better then it is

GST Removed on the select items though if you live in a province with HST both are removed . So Uke only gets the 5% savings . If you buy alot of booze or dine out and have kids there are some savings.

whats ontario doing with it are we getting 5% or 12%? Its such a small amount for me either way I don't care. the more I think about it I would rather people be taxed fully since the people who buy a tons of Christmas toys and luxury food/eat out and booze are generally the people I want taxed. I think the government could use the money a lot more then my nephew needs another toy. Would make more sense to do a tax break on more essentials for a longer period of time and not remove tax on luxury items like eating out and 400$ game consoles

Yeah that would be a common sense approach to things but you have to realize our leader is lacking that . I think more folks would have appreciated no carbon tax on heating your home this winter

Though im sure that family using the food bank will appreciate the fact they can save the GST on a XBOX

Bank of Canada slashes interest rate .50% as Unemployment rises and Canada headed for a recession under JT

but i bet this will be pretty popular among the paycheck to paycheck no money management crowd even tho it probably works out as a zero sum game for them longterm

Well Canada will definitely have a recession when the Trump Tariffs come into place. Probably a big one. Even if that magically didn't happen Trudeau (cheered by the right) is clamping down on immigration predicting net population LOSS, likely to lead to a recession in the medium but not immediate term. I suppose lozen will pre-blame Trudeau for everything (who has never had a recession, other than covid). Leading the g7 in getting our inflation under control and able to lower interest rates down is likely to spur the economy all else being equal, not cause a recession.

I really hope that the media won't go fully insane and use gdp without doing per Capita when discussing of a recession following a population loss.

But I guess leftist media will want to show that deporting/not accepting immigrants is "always bad" so they won't check per Capita gdp

The point of fighting’s inflation was to slow the economy down .

Now if you want lower food prices, lower house prices, etc.
Extremely hard to do without a recession .

If you wish to have lower prices, at least don’t complain of having some hardship along the way ….

The federal government's projections show modestly negative population growth (-0.2%) over the next two years before flipping back to positive territory in 2027 (0.8%).

So pretty much we will stay the same. Its fine to do that for half a decade to balance out the problems over immigration caused. longer then that might be a problem but population loss is not currently a problem and is unlikely to become one in the near future due to the amount of immigrants we can easily get later down the line to balance it.

I’m mildly supportive of the immigration slowdown, I’m just saying that temporary net population decline makes a recession much more likely, even if it’s only a technical one.

Good Ole Trudeau insults Trump again behind his back again saying it would have been better id Kamala Harris won . Im sure that will help with negotiations

Does he not realize Trump's ego is almost as big as his

it's hilarious the pearl clutching the right has. Like the same dudes who guffaw and snorte at Trump endlessly insulting everyone - but specifically Canada and the whole 51st state thing - get all up on their high horses that OF COURSE Trudeau is going to try and run against Trump and give the mildests of swipes back. Unless Trudeau is on his knees genuflecting (at best) to Trump, they are going to be unhappy.

I definitely want are leader to be on his knees guzzling trumps balls . thats how you deal with narcissists with all the power. come on take one for the team trudeu!

In the US, vaping is overtaking smoking & Tucker Carlson is doing his own nicotine pouches.. while in Canada looks like they want to ban all vape flavors. Whatever you think of their policies, to me looks like the US is on the right track promoting alternatives to cancer sticks..

Please tell me what good it does for Trudeau to maker those comments? I watched the Front Bench and they all agreed it served no purpose and just not a wise thing to do. Trumps an idiot we all know that but why poke the bear.

Not that I expect him to have any common sense as we all know his Ego is bigger than Trumps

Wow 4 weeks and you order postal workers back Why not like the train and port workers a week

The difference is Trump is usually right, Trudeau isn't.
