Crown Casino (Melbourne, Australia)
I recently spent a week playing tournaments at Crown Melbourne and played some cash games, when I was trying to find information on the poker games I found limited info so I figured I would post my newfound knowledge! I only played up to 5/10/20 NLHE and PLO.
Limits:
1/2-2/5 are always running and often at least one 5/5+ game. Limits 2/3 and lower are probably not beatable due to the rake.
Rake:
1/2 - $5/hr + 10%/$8 - $80 max buy-in. Don't play this.
2/3 - $5/hr + 10%/$8 - $200 max buy-in. Don't play this.
2/5 - $10/hr + 10%/$6 - $500 max buy-in.
5/5/str - $25/hr - $1000 max buy-in.
5/10/str - $25/hr - $2000 max buy-in.
5/5/str PLO - $25/hr - $1000 max buy-in.
5/10/str PLO - $25/hr - uncapped buy-in.
The 5/5+ games have live straddles and often get placed by all players when agreed upon.
Other games:
There were a few other games running during my stay at various times: 1/2 plo, 10/20 limit omaha, 20/40 limit omaha/hold-em, 25/50 plo, 100/200 plo.
Hope this helps!
Dealer told me they are considering a tournament series in either October or November. He also said they are considering using the basement (old poker room) for some tournaments when larger series happen.
Crown Poker Series next week: https://www.crownmelbourne.com.au/casino...
I love me a Mystery Bounty so I'm keen.
They’re restricting basement parking more than usual lately, Gold card minimum.
Did anyone go to the old Sports Bar at Crown? I think it was where the Poker Room is now. And before that it was Planet Hollywood. I remember watching Liverpool defeat Arsenal 2-1 in the 2001 FA Cup Final at the old Sports Bar, so Planet Hollywood must have closed within 2-3 years of operation.
Gold, Black and Platinum (yes, free). It’s not every day but it has been noticeably more often lately than in recent years.
The old Riverside Lounge is open again, they didn’t change the carpet though. Don’t think it’s actually called Riverside anymore, probably doesn’t have a name and it’s now open to everyone, previously required at least Silver membership. Drinks area was barricaded, I presume they won’t be offering free (non-alcoholic) drinks anymore.
I’m sure it’s happened before but I’ve never seen it. They converted a cash table to a tournament table and put the 8 players back on the list. They had a lot more tables when poker was downstairs so maybe it’s quite rare.
Anyone hear the poker tournament at 2nd-8th December??
I can’t find anynews on crown website.
Yeah, quite ridiculous that a poker tournament series is advertised on the main casino page but not on the poker page.
There is a question.
can I sell the main event ticket if I win from satellite tournament?
Thanks!
I think the rule used to be if you win multiple seats, you only have to keep the first one.
Thanks for the info.
Friday night
2/3 NLH: 4 tables, 53 waiting
2/5 NLH: 14 tables, 16 waiting
2/5 PLO: 1 table, 18 waiting
Numbers like this might be the norm for the next month.
Crown Poker room closed all day
Dec 25-26, Dec 31, Jan 1
I don’t remember this ever happening before. I wonder if they’re using these days to put in the new carpet.
That’s actually crazy!
I’m the past they only closed like 4AM to midday on Anzac Day, Easter Sunday, and one other day it might’ve been Christmas?
Crazy to have so much shutdown in a period that’s usually super busy, NYE is usually a big night
The casino is always closed 4am to 12pm on Good Friday, ANZAC Day and Christmas Day, effectively 24 hours each year.
Very weird to close on Boxing Day. A lot of people coming from the cricket will be in for a shock when they see the poker area is empty / barricaded.
Anzac Day, Good Friday and Christmas morning are fair enough to be closed, you gotta respect the ANZACs and you NEED to be given a break if you were planning to rock up before noon on Christmas or Good Friday 🤣
Supposedly the shutdown of the room is due to penalty rates. I can understand Christmas Day because patronage may not be high enough, I would not be surprised if the poker room closes on other public holidays next year, maybe Good Friday or even the whole four day Easter weekend.
Anyone knows is there a tournament tonight?
Yes the tournament IS on tonight. Cash games close at midnight, tournament will run until it has finished.
Tuesday was rather dead.
Today however, 101 on the list for 2/5 with only 4 tables running (no 2/3, with 24 waiting for the one table of PLO). Wonder if this will be the norm for the next week given penalty rates and limited staff.
They probably shouldn’t run tournaments between Xmas and NY, in fact, pre-covid, Crown only ran tournaments February to November.
Staff are suggesting it’s at least a 4 hour wait to get on a cash table.
I think it's high time the state govt took away the poker monopoly from this disgraceful bunch of money-grubbing profiteers! They charge one of the highest rakes in the world (because they can), close the entire room on the most popular days, and open only a handful of tables when they DO open the room. A city of 5.2 million people deserve much better than this disgrace of a 'poker room' being allowed to continue to cynically exploit Melbourne's poker community!
A dedicated and legal poker room would serve players far better than Crown, like what they have in Texas.
Just heard from a mate that 2/3 is running but as they would do last year, they have hidden the list. It’s visible till about 3pm or so, then they hide it, players just have to wait until they get an SMS.
Pre-covid, Crown would maintain a live site with what games were running, how many tables for each game and how many people were on each list (numbers, not names). You could also see what the Royal Flush jackpot was.
2/5 NLH list currently 104, will no doubt continue to grow, reminds me on 2020 and waiting 4 hours to get a seat.
2/5 list now at 133
I lol at those playing 2/5 and buying in for the minimum ($300).
I managed to get on the 2/3 list because it flashed for a couple minutes and I registered on the self-register terminal, then they hid the list again. Just 3 tables running, I was 53/53.
Ridiculous under the circumstances that each player will flash for 4 minutes before being removed. So if there’s one seat available and you’re 16th on the list, if they have all left, that seat is yours but you will be waiting 60 minutes to get it.
